Can someone tell me if the movie at least does Storm justice for once with a new actress playing her? Is she tough, fierce, and uses her powers in a way that shows she's a real threat?

Cap is my favorite on screen superhero, but Storm is still my favorite comic book character. The old movies got a lot right (Magneto, Xavier, Wolvie, Jean Grey) but they butchered Storm.
Shipp is really good, and her first couple of scenes are well-done, but she's unfortunately lost in the shuffle after that. Like I said in my post, it's probably the biggest flaw in the film (which I liked, on the whole).

I'm still mildly excited to see this Saturday despite the rottentomato score...

Sorry bud, weather outlook's not bright.

Just got back. Still have a lot to digest, but I forgot how awesome the X-Men movie intros were, this one's no exception.

Storm is well done, but there isn't a ton of her. Despite that, she probably has more "Storm" personality than ever before. I don't think you'll be disappointed in how the character is depicted, but I can't really say that anything in the film ever feels like a "threat" because of how the entire third act just feels like a silly videogame battle.

I absolutely adored this movie. I think it might be my favorite X-Men film. I am floored by how much I loved it. I was a weepy little thing but the time the final shot came. This basically felt like the X-Men movie I always wanted. Days was phenomenal. First Class was too. But the former was a movie about a survival instinct driven shell of the X-Men, the latter was about the team trying to become the X-Men.

This movie is a goddamn X-Men movie. The characters are looked the part, acted the part. It was glorious.

Interesting. Was there anything you didn't like about it?

Just to help explain a lot of the criticism showing up in this thread:

Imagine they were releasing a new power rangers movie, but instead of the rangers looking like this:

they looked like this:

and instead of the movie being about these characters:

they were about these characters:

and instead of the team being led by this guy:

they were being led by:

and instead of Rita looking like this:

she instead looks like this:

Hopefully that will help clear up some of the common reoccurring gripes for this movie.

This is incredible.

Watched it a few hours ago. Not sure what to think. But it's such a letdown compared to DoFP. Like, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, Cyclops (though Scott isn't really the student model type here) and Jean were all fantastic. Prof X and Magneto (;_;) were cool too. Mystique was meh.

But man the other Horsemen were horrible. Storm was cool at first but then she was quickly forgotten for the rest of the movie until the final act. Psylocke was barely a presence lol Munn should have definitely accepted being Deadpool's gf back then, this role sucked. And wtf Angel got so wasted in this movie when in the comics his Horseman arc is probably the most memorable thing about him. UGGGH. Talk about being demoted from being a rich and kind guy who was a founding member of the X-Men to this.

Also does anyone feel like there was A LOT of deaths in this movie? Like, every 5 or 10 minutes someone died and most of the time the characters didn't even care :P (spoilers)
only the school kids got saved... but what if some of them didn't know how to swim?!?¡

Interesting. Was there anything you didn't like about it?

The Horsemen weren't used as much as they could. It eventually became the Magneto show when he joined up but I was a-ok with that. Apocalypse was so goddamn powerful, I didn't even really feel he needed four followers at all.

Movie was already long, but I still could have went with a little bit more of the kids at the school. Cyclops's turn from "bullied guy in high school" to "cool guy with all the cool friends" for example came as slightly off because we didn't get enough of him integrating. Lots of funny scenes from the tv spots of the kids aren't even in the flick.

I'll mirror the complaint about the kids at the school stuff. Honestly feel like the beginning needed more of the kids getting to know each other and just hanging out. Honestly would hve been cool seeing Scott broing it up with Kurt and showing him things. HELL I want that even more now with Quicksilver on the team.

I love you. I actually am using the word love. First time in my life... I feel strange.

The premise of kids getting caught up in an eons-old war between Zordon and Rita could make a great season (or movies).

Tommy and Kat were both villains and became leaders too (partly because Jason's actor left, but that's what happened).

Either way, that's a fun post.

Just got out of it and I quite liked it. The crowd I was with seemed to like it a lot too. Big round of applause at the end. For me it is not on DOFP or X2s level, but it is leagues better than X3. I don't understand anyone who says Singer doesn't understand the X-Men. There was so much good stuff in this film for fans.

I went to a 3D showing as it was the only one that fit my schedule today. Please do not do this. It made all the CGI look like absolute trash. And I am usually indifferent to CGI effects. Maybe they are bad in a standard version, but damn it was bad in 3D.

Effects were good in 2d, I thought.

I got spoiled by Civil War/Deadpool and even Days of Future Past but this was eh.

They kinda wasted the Horsemen, all seem like hired goons. I do think the new and improved gang are awesome. Best Jean too.

Xavier felt like a background guy which is shocking considering how key he was before.

Magneto was cool in his intro scene but once he becomes a hired goon, he fizzles.

Meh-stique, man...she didn't hog the screen time like I feared but she really didn't do much.

This feels like the opposite where First Class built up everyone while here, they are rushing to certain scenes.

3/5 Rental

God I loved this movie. Different from DOFP, but in a good way. Loved Isaac as Apocalypse, he gave me goosebumps every time he talked.

Definitely my favorite movie of the year, well over BvS and Civil War. I will see this numerous times in theaters.

Yep! Couldn't agree more.

It was okay? Sort of? It's by no means an offense to the senses, and at its worst, it's just kinda boring. It's not totally broken, or an embarrassing mess on the level of BvS, but it just doesn't have a lot worth remembering either.

On the positive end, McAvoy continues to prove that he's one of the strongest actors in the genre. The new kids are solid enough to carry forward, and it's cool to see them really team up in the end fight. The
Weapon X
cameo was solid, though it ends on one hilariously dumb shot that just had everyone laughing. Quicksilver was fine again, but you could clearly see them wanting to recreate the success they had last time.

Downside? The characters who get lost alont the way. Magneto's whole thing is just dull. His arc begins on a real sour note, and he is just kinda there for the rest of it. Storm, Psylocke and Angel are barely characters. Apocalypse, make-up aside, is just kinda dumb. I mean Apocalypse has always been dumb, but y'know...

Alot of the destruction porn just gets so redundant and tiring. It just drones on and on, and has zero eight. JLaw clearly doesn't want to be here. Also some muddled motivations, especially with the horsemen.

I'm around a 6.5/10. It's fine, if you are invested, you'll get something out of it. If not, it's not terrible, but it's nothing special either.

Glad it's getting SOME love... I am trying to decide when to go see it today.

Think I'm gonna have some fish tacos then see it after :d

Exactly my thoughts. While better than BvS it doesn't come anywhere close to Civil War. CW just nailed the pacing and being able to balance so many characters while still having satisfying arcs for all of them.

The destruction was really pointless in this movie, and the CG for it was pretty bad (That cargo ship scene ugh). For how many lives are lost it just glances over it at the end as if nothing happened.

I really hate this movie yall, really hate it. Why does Hive on Agents of SHIELD do a better Apocalypse than the one presented here? Why are Storm, Psylocke, and Jubilee shown so much in promo material but have 15 lines between the three of em and not a lot a screen time? Why in 16 years there ain't been really much of what made me like the X-Men as a youngin. Why is Beast able to be human? WHY DOES MAGNETO JOIN WITH APOCALYPSE.

Why does Batman v Superman, TASM 1/2 get shit on for being bad films when this movie is not a good film yet people are just gonna excuse it and move on as if it's good? Fuck this movie. If you see it, pay for a Civil War, Alice in Wonderland, literally any other movie and then sneak into X-Men

Not as perfect as DOFP, but I still enjoyed it more than any other comic book movie this year. Thought the young cast (Jean, Scott, Nightcrawler) were all fantastic. Kind of wish we could've had some more scenes with them.

Didn't like it much at all. Loved First Class and Days of Future Past though so this sort of ruined what could have been a great trilogy for me.

Maybe it's because Civil War ruined this, but really I only thought one scene was memorable, the rest was rather meh. I have to say though that the new Cyclops made the character pretty cool for the first time, the rest of the new castings though didn't seem like anything special.

Really did not like this movie at all.

Apocolypse is a cliched one-note, one-dimensional villain with no depth or a complex series of interesting underlying motivations. He's just a cliche'd power hungry villain with a god complex. Been there seen that 1000x before.

I went into the movie blind not having read or seen any reviews or checking the RT score. After just a quick glance after I saw the movie this evening...it seems like I'm not the only one who thought so.

I actually really dug this. My only problem was the eventual battle with apocalypse was pretty weak. BUT, I liked the visual style and seeing the en again.

2/10. Major disappointment. Terrible dialogue, simplistic story, terrible acting, terrible action and fight scenes.

Just give this franchise to someone who can do something worthwhile with it. Straight garbage by singer. His mind must have been elsewhere

I'm surprised people hate it this much BvS was almost unbearable to me. This film actually kept me entertained even though I felt shortchanged at the end with Apocalypse

Lots of people seem to like it actually. From a cursory glance, it looks like it's about 50/50, which is pretty close to its review averages.

DAMN! Why didn't they just embrace the stupidness?! It could have been so much more enjoyable. Stuff like Magneto making a fucking X at the end? Bahahahaha. Or having a fucking fist fight inside Apocalyspe's/Xavier's head. It was a fucking awful movie but I did enjoy watching just because it was so stupid. And I wish they would have embraced that more.

Every 'emotional scene' or Jennifer Lawrence scene was so fucking cringe.

Despite all that, I think Apocalypse was better than any MCU villain. And I'm a big MCU fan.

This is my favorite Xmen movie. I was not expecting this. The character beats are great. Apocalypse is overbearing in the perfect way. Quicksilver is kind of incredible. Even Jlaw didn't bother me. She is barely in the movie. The cameo was brutal and ended with more heart then I expected. Jean was kind of fantastic. I really didn't expect that. Just a fun super hero movie grounded in characters I liked.

How I felt, even though the final apocalypse fight didn't really hit the spot the violence that comes from him makes him feel very dangerous.

I really really loved the opening.

Overall, I thought the movie was great. I was immensely entertatined. The younger mutants felt natural and fresh. Apocalypse is a badass villain.

The only negative is Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. I can't help but be taken out of the movie every time she appears on screen. She's a total miscast in my opinion.

The best past about the movie was the ending. Becsuse it finally felt like we are going to get more of the 90s cartoon in the next film.

I think this falls smack dab in the middle of X-Men movies. It's not terrible but it is still a mess. Felt like it was trying to do too many things and failed at most. A disappointment after FC and DOFP and an unworthy end to the second trilogy. What stuck out most was how into their roles Fassbender and McAvoy were while JLaw sleepwalked through the movie. I also said it in the spoiler thread but I'm gonna say it again (because it's not a spoiler) but they went completely HAM with the CGI and about 1.5 I just got tired of it. People in front of me and behind me burst out laughing when I let off a sigh at another setpiece, it was that bad. Apoc and the four horsemen were also wasted and barely characters even, except for Mags. Still, tons of enjoyable moments, especially with Quik, Kurt and Xavier. But it could have been so much more.

This year's CBM ranking is like this for me: Civil War was the best, closely followed by Deadpool with Apoc as a distant third and BvS fourth. Apoc is still clearly better than BvS but not by much. I hope that Suicide Squad and Doc Strange fall closer to the former two.

I think the movie was fine. It's definitely not as good as Days of Future Past or First Class. Probably on par with the first X-Men movie, I'd say. Will probably post more thoughts later in the spoiler thread.

Without question, the writing for Apocolypse is shit and bland but Oscar's performance was awesome. He did the little things so well like making shitty lines sound cool, and showed great moments of passion as the character.

He wasn't given alot to work with but damn did he make good with what he had.
