Without question, the writing for Apocolypse is shit and bland but Oscar's performance was awesome. He did the little things so well like making shitty lines sound cool, and showed great moments of passion as the character.

He wasn't given alot to work with but damn did he make good with what he had.

I do agree with this.

Whoever wrote Apocolypse has a bright future as a WWE creative team writer.

Oscar was great though, for what he was given to work with. I finally dropped on my wife and 7 year old son, about 3/4ths through the movie that Apocolypse was Poe Daemeron and they couldn't believe it !!

Lets be honest, has dialogue for Apocalypse ever actually been good? Definitely not in the cheesy 90s cartoon. I've never cared for him in the comics either. He's one of those villains where I like the idea of him more than most of the appearances of him, right there alongside Venom. I don't think anybody is into these bombastic paper-thin villains in their comic movies anymore, they want a little more. Which makes me very afraid of how Thanos is going to come across.

Saw it last night. Really enjoyed the movie. Had a lot of fun & thought it wad nice seeing the X-Men work as a team. Felt like a fun team movie in ways even Avengers didn't for me. Only thing I didn't like was
the Stryker section. Felt like just a cheap way to have a Wolverine cameo as little that happens there matters.
. Aside from that, liked everything else. Nice send off for this group if it is Fassbender & McAvoy's last outing.

Thanos and Darkseid are gonna be dull as bricks.

The best thing Apoc has ever done was be the final boss for X-Men Vs Street Fighter.

He's got some great theatrical bombast going on in this film. Should have had a drill arm though.

Thanos has the infatuation with the physical personification of death going for him. If they play that up they are ahead of the game.

It was nice to get a no bullshit villain that was hard to take down. It reminded me of simpler times when villains didn't need to be deeply complex to be fun and intimidating.

Man that blue guy was one of the best villains I've ever seen. When he did that "you can fire your arrows from the top of the babel tower, but you can never strike the gods!" Speech I was totally on his side. Fantastic job, what a badass. Overall a really good movie. In my top 5 MCU movies.

Credits are rolling, waiting for the end of credit's movie scene, have to say quicksilver once again had the best scenes, also apocalypse was sufficiently intimidating despite being underwhelmed by the trailers

yeah imo this opened up a lot of cool story beats for infinity war

You do know his name is apocalypse, right? ;)

I actually really enjoyed the movie. Maybe it's because I neve have high hopes for X-Men movies or I wasn't expecting much from all the reviews, but I liked it hair as much as First Class or DoFP. It also helps I'm not a giant x-men fan so it doesn't bother me when they don't follow the comics verbatim.

I didn't love or hate this film. It was just kind of okay.

It felt very much akin to Last Stand in the worst of ways with Singer pulling his best Brett Ratner impersonation with that final act. Like if no one told me I'd think this was from a completely different director than the one who gave us X2 and DofP.

Thankfully the smaller character beats/moments and Quicksilver were well done and the ending gives me high hopes for future instalments. Just let Singer and Kinberg go.

Things I liked:
The music.
The cast.
Quicksilver was really good especially his second big scene.
The opening titles.
The ending.

Things I hated:
Dodgy CGI and it's over-abundance,
Apocalypse. Bland.
Horsemen. Barely any development.
The script and editing.

Just got back and I loved it, I think it's X-Men: DofP>X-Men: Apocalypse>X-Men: First class for me, (if we are counting the older ones then X-Men 2>the rest) I can see where some of the complaints are coming from but they didn't really bother me, right after it finished I wanted to watch it again and the friend I went to watch it with said she loved it more than Civil War,

I didn't care for it much. It was alright.

Sophie Turner and JLaw really phoned this one in.

I thought it was pretty good for a summer blockbuster. I went with low expectations and left satisfied.
It's not the best comic movie out there, but it definitely ranks there with the "good ones".

So, trilogy Blu-ray set happening?

Probably just the 8 movies so far. I know in the UK there was the Adamantanium Collection when The Wolverine released and the Cerebro Collection when DoFP released. No idea if they'll start including Deadpool in these boxsets though.

Could be different in the US. No idea if they got the Adamantanium and Cerebro collections.

Well I just meant a set with First Class, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse (and maybe deadpool?)

saw it today, was decent. Not the greatest in the franchise but had a good time

trying to get my head around the timeline now, so does this basically mean that every film from X-Men Origins: Wolverine to The Wolverine has basically been wiped from history?

essentially its now First Class -> Days of Future Past (70's) -> Apocalypse -> Days of Future Past (Future)

Pretty much.

DOFP was a reset button, but a good one if anything.

Yup. It let them wipe X-Men 3 off the map and this movie lets them play with the audience's knowledge of X2.

And Deadpool sandwiched between Apocalypse and the ending of DOFP.

I agree with this and your rankings. I really liked it. Thought it was a really, really good movie. Nowhere near as bad as critics let on. I had my issues with the opening of the film. Felt it was a bit too rushed but it did the job of introducing everyone it needed too.

I also enjoyed it more than Civil War, which I honestly feel is quite overrated. I'm excited to see the X-Men universe grow more than anything. I'm very happy with the film. Absolute shame it's doing so horribly box office wise... though it was nice to see our theatre was packed and had a few shows sold out when we went to buy tickets online.

Now having seen the movie I'll say I thought it was decent. It felt a bit long though, and thought they could've stood to cut out a few of the tangential story lines.

Will say, going into this expecting this to be the Mystique show, I was pleasantly surprised with how much of a presence the x-kids were given.

Really liked the sequence when the kids stormed Stryker's base. Combined Cyclops' tactical skills with Jean's and Nightcrawler's abilities very well. And they actually managed to make Cyclops' powers look threatening this time around, something they failed to do in all the previous movies.

Probably the biggest weakness of the film, (other than movie politics shoehorning Quicksilver and Mystique into these movies) was how they handled Apocalypse.

He's definitely not the type of villain you can just drop into one movie. He is more the type of villain you breadcrumb over several installments. Not to mention a handful of popular subplots like Cable, Mr. Sinister, the twelve etc. can't be done anymore because they already killed him off.

Wasted a perfectly good villain in a lackluster storyline.

Thor-tier movie that completely wasted one of the X-Men's most dangerous enemies. It was a fine episode of a TV show, but a completely generic movie. Minutes after watching it, everything besides Quicksilver's scene and the re-imagining of Angel as a West Berlin punk left my mind. Oh, and they at least hinted at Cyclops being an actual character this time around.
Deus Ex Jean
was dull and expected, but at least keeping with the lore.

Movie was alright! Not the best ever but I was expecting a travesty. Liked it way more than DOFP which I just didn't like much at all.

Saw it today and Apoc did really live up to the Ivan Ooze moniker placed on him early on, he even talked like him.. If not for him this could've been the best of this Xmen trilogy with Fassbender giving an amazing performance.

Also really like GoT Sansa performance as Jean, Nightcrawler was also great. Would really love the next one going forward with these 2 including Fassbender.

I really enjoyed the movie. It is definitely the worst movie of the bunch but this is not a bad thing considering how much I liked this movie.

NO
Apocalypse is a divergent timeline.

First Class->DoFP->DoFP changed future->(Wolverine 3?)
First Class->DoFP changed past->Apocalypse->????

who knows where the heck deadpool is

Movie was bad save the last ten minutes the entire movie was pretty horrible sans magneto. My gf and I both didn't like it and it's the first XMEN movie I haven't liked. Things felt forced and overly long. Just bad. Worst movie I've seen all year besides Netflix stuff. Actually while this is a better film than BvS I had more fun with BvS. So I'll say it's the second worst film but if watch BvS again, this probably not.

I also found Jennifer Lawrence's performance to be just terrible. No wonder she wants out. Fastbender and Mcavoy saved the film for me. Their scenes were enjoyable.

I actually laughed in civil war. Besides quicksilver XMEN A was a snooze. The action in civil war was better. The writing, editing, and dialogue were better. Civil war is a superior movie. I know opinions etc but come on XMEN A is really a poorly done film. It's all over the place pacing wise and the big scenes lack impact and feel totally sterile minus the last few minutes when it gets personal.

Just watched it. I thought it was pretty good. Not great but still enjoyable. I think I like what the film sets up in the future more than the film itself tho. I also liked how they treated Scott that character needed it

I didn't care for it much. It was alright.

Sophie Turner and JLaw really phoned this one in.

Agreed.

Can someone with creative oversight sit down with Simon kinberg and Brian singer and say how about we create a new dimension to jean grey instead of using the Phoenix card for the 3rd time in these movies and have her show something else more slick with her abilities. I was bored with her acting but I blame the script more than I blame Sophie Turner on this.

Jennifer Lawrence was terrible. Her blue skin makeup was terrible as well she looked like an 18yo while in blueskin not someone who has aged at all. I'm almost convinced it wasn't JLaw in costume. Like how they unveiled this version of storm with that particular style they really needed to update blueskin mystique with a new look or hairstyle. Zero action sequences as Mystique. They did not even explain why she was at the cage fight, this scene shoulda been cut.

I really hate this movie yall, really hate it. Why does Hive on Agents of SHIELD do a better Apocalypse than the one presented here?

This. I mostly enjoyed the movie because I love the X-men franchise in general (still not as good as Civil War imo - too many broad strokes in terms of characterization and not enough detail) but I was actively bothered by how much the movie followed Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD; literally beat for beat, and before any comic people come in and say who came first - I don't care, AoS beat X-Men to it on the screen and did a better job of that storyline as far as I'm concerned. Quicksilver was fantastic and a standout as always.

Not surprising, but Singer wants a break from the franchise.

For me, this is not only the finale of the trilogy that started with "X-Men: First Class," it’s the finale of six movies. But I also call it an "in-betwee-quel" -- not a sequel or a prequel -- because it happens in 1983, before the first "X-Men." I’ve done something no other franchise has done -- not even "Star Wars," which is bouncing around in time. I’ve actually altered time so it concludes and also sows the seeds for the characters to find pieces of their destiny where we found them in the first three "X-Men" movies.

I recently met Danny Boyle -- he and I have known of each other for many years but never met. He was prepping "Steve Jobs" at the time and I was doing this and he said, “Are you going to be doing 'X-Men' movies forever?” And I didn’t actually say no.

The reality is, even though I’m very desperate to jump to something completely different, I’ve spent so many years in this universe and I love this cast and the characters so much, I just don't see myself abandoning them forever. Perhaps as a consultant, as a producer, even as a director, I could see myself returning in the future. Just right now, once this one is done, I’d like to do something really different.

I liked/loved all the B. Singer X-Men including Apocalypse and Vaughn's First Class, but I would like to see sth. different now though, not Last Stand different but sth. that leads to non black latex costumes
(which we saw at the end of apocalypse)
and to Deadpool (sort of but not really).

I'm a fan of what Singer has done with the franchise but it would be good to see what others can do with the series going forward.

I just hope someone in a future movie corrects the biggest fuck up from Apocalypse and i'll be happy

How can you kill off Apocalypse you bastard
