Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Even if OG Xbox compatibility isn't in the cards for tomorrow (and in all likelihood it isn't), I really hope they do it eventually, and do it the right way.

  • Full physical compatibility with the potential of digital rerelease.
  • Reactivation of OG Xbox Live, emulated in a fashion similar to how 360 Live exists on the Xbone right now.
  • Special Anniversay OG-inspired Xbox One controllers/GameCube controller-like adaptor with rerelease of specially branded anniversary OG Xbox controllers, full compatibility with all games.

Now. None of this will ever come to pass. But a man can dream, can't he?

I just want goddamned Splinter Cell Conviction and Blacklist, and Max Payne 3 and LA Noire.

Das it, I swear.

Xbox UK on Facebook has changed all their cover photos to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Xbox. Who knows, maybe there's a little more to it than that?

My flight home from my parent's house leaves in a few hours, if OG xbox compatibility gets announced after I leave and I didn't get to bring any of the games i have in storage here home I'm gonna scream.

at least I finally grabbed a bunch of 360 discs that work now (I'll finally finish lost Odyssey disc 4)

OG Xbox Live is never coming back.

Thats what people said about 360 BC. If they do OG Xbox support, I think putting the servers back online would have to be part of it.

My biggest gripe with OG Xbox support was that it blocked off your contact list and party chat. I would've played OG Xbox games way more if that wasn't an issue. And if they do it, I expect it to be similar to the 360 backwards compatibility where your friends list and chat are still accessible at the xbox one os level.

OG Xbox Live was shut down because it held Microsoft back from evolving and improving the service.

I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360. Our first step in this process will be to turn off auto-renewals for those members who only use Xbox LIVE on a v1 Xbox. While I can’t comment on the specifics, this change will allow us to continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community. We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features.

It's dead, jim.

Sweet, thanks. I only discovered EA Vault recently and I'm preparing to buy a subscription for when I'll have a little bit more of free time. :)

360 games are still actively being sold on xbox live, so it would make sense to have the servers running. Even if they somehow come up with OG xbox support, I don't imagine they will turn the servers back on unless they're monetizing the efforts in some manner( like putting up the games on demand OG games for sale).

Microsoft pls.

For an American console it sure had some amazing Japanese exclusives that would never get ported to anything else. And yes I know what you're thinking, that Breakdown cover art is awesome.

Why's that? I usually play as dudes in game because I am one dude.

I play as girls.....because I'm a dude, haha.

I'd rather look at a female for 40 hours than look at a guy. X-D

Xbox FR changed too, but posted something different :

It says :

"15 years, 15 consoles, the next 4 will be unveiled this week ;)..."

15 console variants, 4 new unveiled this week ?

Hmmmmmm

Male voice sucks, female voice is way, way better. It's not even a subjective opinion, this is a scientifically proven fact.

Anytime someone complained about the humour in Sunset Overdrive they invariably played as a male character.

Just wanted to place additional weight on this. Do NOT pick a guy in Sunset Overdrive. I've said it before, but I legitimately believe the game would have scored better if nobody had the option to play as the male character.

Don't listen to them. Yosuke in Sunset Overdrive is awesome.

Also, block this guy.

I'm guessing alot of those games would have wound up on the Dreamcast had it lived, or succeeded by a follow-up.

It's really unique. I hope more people get the chance to play it.

JSRF for sure would have as it existed on Dreamcast first but was shelved and quickly ported to Xbox instead.

Namco and From sadly weren't interested in supporting the Dreamcast in any significant way. :(

What is the consensus on Skate 3's frame rate?

I played for about an hour last night, and it seemed pretty unstable to me...

Any sort of OG Xbox themed hardware/accessories would be great.

I played an hour or two of Sunset overdrive and didn't really like it. I don't think playing as a girl is gonna change that.

Whenever I make characters I always make dudes. I never model them after myself or "insert" myself either. Never really thought about it either.

MS give me my 360 digital version of Ninja Gaiden Black on my One for the love of God!!!

There's a couple of skills you unlock a couple of hours into the game that make the traversal and combat start to really click. I wasn't blown away with it in the early hours, but then it grew to be one of my favourite games on the console.
