lol k so, I got the batman v superman 4K disc because i wanted to watch that extended cut. I figured "well, i know am getting a One S, and will get a 4K tv at some point, so why not just grab one so I can have a disc whenever I do." It does have a regular blu-ray in the package as well, you're right.

I get home, open it up, and notice there's fine print on the bottom of the package that says "4K Blu-ray contains extended version of the film, regular blu-ray contains theatrical version."

I was PISSED! So now I need to know if I can watch this 4K disc on my One S with a 1080p tv, I still haven't seen the damn movie yet lol. I'll just try it myself when I get home from work, I was just curious if anyone knew beforehand.

However, I can't get those green checks going through the receiver, only directly to my TV. Does anyone have settings that are working for that by any chance? I have 4:4:4 enabled on the tv and have made sure the dynamic range is set to full for the HDMI port and color replication. I have a Bravia br65x810c for my tv, and I have everything but HDR with green checks when connected directly to it in the same port I use the receiver through (HDMI 4/ARC).

Yep, I will know next Thursday, September 1st, as that is the earliest they could schedule the delivery. So fingers crossed...

Also, just to clarify, I am using it for those features you listed as well but also for the upscaled TV. Everything looks great when it works. I would even live with the blackout if it was only now and then. It was not just now and then though and especially in games it was unbearable.

I have this issue with my Vizio M50-C1 BUTTTT with my PC set at 1080p.

I can say that with certainty it started happening after there was a firmware update on the TV.

Now that is weird it is happening at 1080p. I have seen the issue the entire time with my Roku 4, but as I said it was not as bad as with the One and that is with 4K. But the fact it is happening at 1080p as well also points to the TV itself and certain signals.

I'm happy to report no problems. I've used the media player, Netflix, youtube, vudu, and watched the BvS fight on the UHD player. I noticed in settings that I could change from 8 bit to 10 bit but I left it 8 bit knowing I don't have HDR. I hope your replacement works better than your current!

That's damn good news actually and hope I get the same results. The morbid curiosity of what would happen if you enable the One Guide is very compelling to me, but since I know you do not use it and part of me really does believe it may have something to do with it all, I will just say that is great news and I do hope I see the same results.

Right now I have my amazon fire hooked straight to the hdmi 4k@30 and the S to the 4k@60. I have ARC out to my Sony receiver. I've switched a few times bc I use ps vue on the fire. It's got be something with the oneguide.

I made some quick videos of the Life of Pi issue I mentioned, still have no idea what's causing it.

Messing with the backlight in The Lego Movie just adjusts the backlight as usual, and other movies act the same way so far. In Life of Pi adjust the backlight makes the colors all weird, and I haven't been able to find settings that make it look normal.

I'm still really unclear how HDR works. I've noticed a lot of weird stuff. Mad Max: Fury Road looks completely different on disc compared to the downloadable version on Vudu, the Vudu version's colors are more vibrant to the point of looking oversaturated, and the HDR effects are more noticeable. at the beginning when Immortan Joe is giving his speech the "spotlight" on him looks noticeably brights, and when the camera is behind him there's noticeably more contrast between the view outside and the inside of the cavern. The disc version looks way better, the colors are a lot more natural, but the HDR effects are less drastic. TV is calibrated with the same settings for both.

I'm still not clear how I'm supposed to set up the TV either. I saw a post on AVS where a Vizio employee said that for Dolby Vision content you're just supposed to use the Calibrated Dark preset, no additional changes. but jacking the backlight all the way up makes it look better IMO. Not sure if the Calibrated Dark thing is for HDR10 as well or if that's supposed to be calibrated differently, but it still looks pretty damn incredible to me using that preset.

I've noticed that HDR content definitely looks better in a dark room, I think because my TV just doesn't get bright enough while playing HDR stuff. Looks fine in a dark room but if I try to play a movie during the afternoon on a weekend or whatever it can look like the movie is show is set in the evening since the picture seems dark. I have a 55" P-series.

I'm still having some pretty bad stuttering issues, not sure if it's the Xbox or my TV. I need to play some regular non-4K BluRays to see if it keeps up, I've never had a problem playing movies from Vudu off the tablet remote or streaming services though.

Anyway, not sure how interesting this is to anyone. If anyone has any ideas about the Life of Pi thing I'd love to hear.

I've had more than one bad 4K disc too so don't rule that out. My now you see me 4K disc would freeze audio Glitch and not work right at all had to exchange.

Oh, damn. The stuttering seems universal, but the color is issue is unique to Life of Pi. Maybe I'll go see if Best Buy will replace it with a new copy tomorrow.

So you can mix and match depending on which source is selected. To tell you the truth game mode looked fine for movies too, but I havent really gotten into calibrating this thing yet.

For what it's worth I've definitely seen content like Marco Polo on Netflix that looks incredible in Dolby Vision. But yeah, for some reason the disc and download version of Mad Max definitely look very noticeably different.

Those are great points. I just worry about the console collecting dust (in terms of gaming) because my time has become significantly limited since I started my Ph.D. program. I still have Uncharted 4 and Witcher 3 unopened on my shelf, not to mention my backlog of 60+ 3DS, Wii U, and Vita games.

...I'll probably still get one.

If anyone is having an issue with the screen flickering black every 10 seconds or so, replace the HDMI cable. I was using a HDMI cable that was running through the dry wall. The cable length was about 25 ft., When ever I switched to 4K on the Xbox it would flicker to a black screen every 10 seconds or so, I tried different ports, and It was the same result. As a last ditch effort I tried the HDMI cable they supplied. And to my surprise it worked.

I'm not sure if it was the length of the cable, or the quality that was causing the issue.Hope this helps someone.

Microsoft is currently looking into it. When it happens is anyone's guess.

Beyond what we announced at E3, there is nothing new I can talk about now. But you should expect to see a number of media apps and games announced shortly. In addition, I know some fans have asked for new audio functionality including bitstream support and we're evaluating that as a possible feature in a future update.

I didn't say soon, I don't want people to infer soon. I don't know the exact date. This is how things get started

I know it's not a HW limitation. I know it's something the team is looking into and they are considering.

When it comes is another matter entirely, and has a lot to do with the vast catalog of features customers are asking for. So like I said, we have heard the request, we are evaluating it, and when it happens it will get announced as part of the preview program cadence like other software updates. Follow Ybarra on twitter he will jump on this I'm sure when it's ready.

Do I think it's going to happen? I do. When, I really don't know and I'm not trying to hint or infer anything about that at all.

HDR+ is made for converting non-HDR pictures into "HDR". If you're watching a 4k HDR movie on your Xbox you are just making the picture look worse by doing that. For movies switch your viewing mode to Movie and that will make the most advantage of HDR.
