XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

Oh, I did some ini editting.

First, on namelist.ini, I changed this stuff:

NewSoldier_HatChance=0.9
NewSoldier_UpperFacePropChance=0.9
NewSoldier_LowerFacePropChance=0.9
NewSoldier_BeardChance=0.9
NewSoldier_ForceColors=false

So now rookies have a 90% chance of having said stuff and with the "forcecolors=false" thingie, they can appear like the peacocks a good XCOM soldier is supposed to be.

Then I went on Xcomcontent.ini and changed all of the bveteran=true values to false, so everything is available at the start.
So now my Rookies already start pretty customized, with bright colors and the weirder props and hats and stuff.

Now I just need to find a way to get this NewSoldier stuff to generate tattoos.

If you got a concealed ranger, you can use it to spot the beacon and then have snipers shoot it down from far. Try to take it down before getting overwhelmed.

This is the strategy I used however I got lucky and my specialist got line of site on a MEC standing very close to the beacon (thanks to the concealed ranger) which I hacked and used to destroy the beacon. Ranger made it all the way back without breaking concealment and the hacked MEC drew all enemy fire for a few turns while I lifted off.

Stun Lancers become fairly easy to deal with after a certain point because your units begin to dodge more. But they're absolute cunts in the beginning.

What I think it's funny is that the entire month leading to the game's release had lots of gameplay vids and livestreams and so on. Yet, they all worked fine.
I don't remember watching a livestream where the game performed as badly as the final build does (and a bunch of them weren't made by firaxis themselves).
What happened?
That reviewers ignored it is sadly kind of expected, but Beagle was doing stuff like putting 48 soldiers on the map and it worked fine.

Total Biscuit mentioned the performance issues around a month ago. But people thought it was probably an older build. If I was to guess, perhaps those gameplay videos and livestreams were done on absolute top of the line hardware, something like 3x Titan Xs or whatever.

Eh, I've pretty much stopped my playthroughs of this game for now. Not upset with the purchase, it's pretty much exactly the game I expected, but I just have the feeling that this game isn't half of what it'll be once the community has some time with it. The parts of this game as they are aren't molding together well for me.

Turns out that what I like about XCOM(and TBS games in general) isn't just insane difficulty and odds being against the player, I also enjoy the slow grind, specialization, resource management, equipping the troops(down to the bullet type) and the preparation before the battle just as much as the tactical part of the game. For all of the additions to the strategic layer XCOM 2 it still seems to be lacking the actual "strategy".

All that is still there though.

is it possible you've left them equipped on soldiers that you aren't using mission to mission?

I used the make utility items available button and it refused show up, checked everyone too. I quit and restarted the game which seemed to have fixed it.

Anyway my ranger just reached captain and she's a complete murder machine. Her bonus skill ended up being holo sighting which is pure lol with rapid fire. I'm still missing the bonus damage for flanking enemies and she can already take down an Andromedon solo. After I got Untouchable it felt like a wrap. Now I don't know what to think. I'm guessing this is the slide part of the difficulty curve.

Holo applies twice?

Dat 27% shot percentage despite the fact that I only took shots with greater than 50% possibility.

It hurts.

Kinda amazed no one died, failed the mission though.

The dark event included in Total Concealment is complete bullshit. 5 turns to accomplish a take out the VIP mission? Guess it's my fault for messing up the mission to counter it, but still, wtf? You somehow have to avoid all the patrols, grenade the VIP and get out apparently.

Watching Christopher Odd's playthrough and I've noticed that his soldiers are super whiny and rude. Why are they like that? Mine are all happy and obedient

Mine were too. I don't know why, maybe it's the attitude you select?

I heard a lot of "Okay, I got one, now what" or "Alriiiiight, I'm going"

Their lines change with their personalities. Most of mine were Twitchy, so they second-guessed me quite a bit. Then again, hearing on go "It's dead! It HAS to be dead!" when he kills an Adromedon is always funny. No, no it's not. Followed up by killing it again and going "Check it before you get too close!" He's learning.

Any tutorials/resources on making voice packs? I'm making a few celeb voice packs, starting with British politicians.

Lol that is awesome. Maybe I should experiement

The game needs way more voice packs, and also the option to choose "no voice" for individual soldiers. It's complicated further by Attitudes, I appreciate, but it's really jarring to me to hear certain nationalities speak in the wrong voice. They could have cut down on the "variety" of American English/French/German/Spanish/Italian in favor of more languages.

Desperately needed:
-Eastern European/Russian-accented English
-Russian
-Japanese
-Chinese

Nice to have:
-South Africa-accented English
-Irish-accented English (there's a Northern Irish one, male and female, at least)
-Nigerian
-Brazilian/Portuguese
-Korean

Yes please

Would have been nice to get South Asian and Arabic as well

I can never have enough language

I have a really hard time accepting soldier losses. One of mine bled out to death. I just alt+F4'd.
I'm playing a pseudo ironman. Not really ironman but i'm not save scumming.
But i can't let my guys die...

Voice packs are buggy at the moment. They're known to cause crashing if previewed in the armory (no issues if this is done in the character pool).

I was really bummed out there wasn't russian voice. I mean do we really need 10 different voices of each country? Firaxis could simply borrow the voice actors from Civ, record a dozen of lines and done.

Trying out multiplayer for the first time right now. Never really gave it much of a go in EU/EW, but I got the general idea from the one or two matches I did play.
The opponent is just running the clock out every single turn. This tension is amazing!

Yeah there's a few though I hope the people that recorded new voice packs for Long War get a chance to get those ported and get new lines added for XCOM2 when everything gets hashed out.

My main Ranger got severely injured and 'shaken' early on in the campaign - I don't know if that caused the change or if she got promoted at the same time, but she ended up with that voice set (and some nasty scars). It seemed very appropriate, especially considering what I used her for in all my subsequent missions (advance concealed scout).

Saturated Fire is pretty stupid in that it basically starts a fire right beside you. That's pretty idiotic. Should just get Rupture instead for that hot single target damage.

Sectopods are kinda easy to murder. Archons on the other hand, UGH.

Also learned my lesson not to let Andromedons live past the first turn. The second phase is pretty much melee only though or something right?

First encounter with an andromedon: Oh, this is new. This guy looks pretty cool, time to take it down.

Wait, that's a grenade OMG AHHHHH

*four soldiers are melting and/or panicked*

yeah phase 2 is melee only

Yeah that'll teach me. First mission I both encountered the Andromedon and Sectopod the first time I just DPS'd them down on the reveal turn. This time I thought I could be cheeky and leave the Andro up while suppressed. Nope, acid bomb grenade. F' that.

Well, as soon as my current campaign reaches its close I'm going to start on a new one - And write a story off of it inspired by the age old tradition of writing stories from XCOM campaigns.

Anyone who wants to see themselves or any OCs they made in the character pool get brutally slaughtered in purple prose, feel free to PM me your character pools.

Are you gonna use GAF-COM? I'm in that already.

Man taking one damage and having both my main grenadiers out for 28 days is really poor on an otherwise godlike Blacksite mission.

Also I really like almost everything in the Gunslinger path more than the other side for sharpshooters. Too bad you don't keep the revolver, because that just looked so baller.

Eh, scratch everything I just said. After five near-wins where on the final turn the opponent just disconnects, I think I've had enough of multiplayer already... Quite a shame too, it was a really fun idea and seemed to work great during the actual fight itself.

Lost my Colonel combat hacker Specialist to the 'lids. Don't like 'em, want nothing to do with 'em.

This is the heaviest blow XCOM has yet suffered. But now I have W.A.R. and Wraith armors, a Psi operative, plasma weapons on everyone, and a ton of other toys. On the next Guerrilla Ops mission, I got Flawless while simultaneously
skulljacking a Codex and killing an Avatar
. And the Squaddie Specialist I brought along ranked up, so that's nice.

That psi operative is going to make future mission waaaay more fun. Between the mind control and mass panic a single operative can just completely decimate anything you come across that has a mind...

We've all experienced the game dropping to a crawl but has anyone else noticed it seems to be much worse during the 'story' missions?

Speak for yourself, the gameplay segments have never dropped to a crawl for me on PC. Some of the load times seem a bit long and there is a hitch in animation every now and then, but that is about it. Nearly finished with veteran ironman campaign, had one CTD.

Ok this UFO attack is driving me crazy. I've tried literally everything I can at this point. Concealed ranger isn't working out since the enemies are covering the entire battlefield. No amount of Snipers on Killzone can even put a noteworthy dent in their forces and I even made a strategy where within a single move I can take out the spike with rockets but even then I get some random bullshit come my way like a shock trooper come paralyze a troop so I can't leave.

I'm caught between making a new save so I can at least go back to playing the game or dropping it and going back to EU to be honest. I've spent most of the my day just trying anything and everything to either avoid the fight or at least survive it and I'm getting nowhere with it.

Reproducable bugwatch: Bladestorm's retaliation, upon killing a viper that attempts to bind the ranger, will lock the ranger in a "bound" animation for the rest of the mission, making them teleport when moving and making any action (attacks, using items, etc) have a 15 second delay with no animations, just results.

Example:
It's happened at least twice. My star ranger is just too good.

omg

This game has some real good attention to detail.

And this is why you build a Defense Matrix early on and staff it with an Engineer.
