XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

Completed the final mission last night, was pretty intense. My 2 Serial snipers saved my ass I think, both equipped with AP rounds and a Plasma Lance with Superior Mag, Auto-Loader and Scope. Grappled up to the pillars and took out most of the room.

Done with the game for now though, I'll most likely play through it again when some DLC comes out.

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
Back to back failed 90%+s
Both surviving aliens crit.
Shotgunner panics.

XCOM, baby. Flawless mission turned completely on it's head.

AWC gave my sniper Untouchable so getting them into the middle of the fray is really exciting now. I might make them go Gunslinger.

So I just noticed that Enforcer has 560k sales according to SteamSpy.

...Why..?

Did people blanket-buy XCOM games during the Summer and/or Winter sales and not realize what Enforcer is?

Seriously, jesus christ, THAT game is what we should be pointing to as the example of shitty action spinoffs of turn based games, not The Bureau.

WARNING: Do not play this game when you are in a bad mood. It will make you want to punch people in the face.

No joke, this game gets you all tense and prone to yelling at things. Yknow, since you're used to going "HOW THE HELL DID YOU MISS AT 78%!"

*misclicks my grenade and despite the blue field covering two aliens I managed to click the exact spot between them which hits nothing at all*

Me:....ENRAGED

Isn't there a pack of the old X-Com games that includes Enforcer? That could explain it.

Yeah. All of the old X-Com games that aren't UFO Defense have roughly 580k owners, give or take. I'm pretty sure it's because the bundle has been really cheap before and people mass bought it.

So, is there any reason to look in the old Xcom games?

Should I just jump into Xenonauts?

Kinda worried the "cheating AI" mentioned in the reviews for Xenonauts is going to turn me off.

Welp, lost my first Legendary campaign.

Got completely fucked by facility location RNG and had to go all the way around the world because apparently Asia and Indonesia aren't connected. Had one day left to make contact with the black site region when the timer ran out.

Probably going to take a break for a bit.

I thought the continents were all connected like my last campaign. Nope (random links). You have to hoard Intel and just expand like mad OR prioritize skulljacking for Intel leads (Allows you to attack facility without expanding there first).
There's a Mod that links all the continents FWIW.

Hahaha, yeah.

"I'm -SURE- I wasn't drunk and that you could go from North America to South in the previous run"

Yeah, I definitely could have played it better. Underestimated how stupidly long it takes to build anything and got a little greedy with my base building. Oh well. Still probably going to take a break, I was already in the process of researching plasma weapons so it would take forever to get back to where I was.

Avatar time can go up really fast (say, a combination of going up naturally, plus new factory, plus dark event). After the blacksite, my priority is always expanding to a factory. Gotta have at least one factory ready to go at all times.

Holy shit the difficulty jump from Veteran to Commander... Jesus.

Any tips? My campaigns so far have all died by the time I hit the first Retaliation mission.
I know you commented about pod activation and density before soooo:
Speaking of both Maybe this can help. You can check out rest of Commander and Legendary (not finished) there too for ideas.

Skyranger cheese best cheese.

Wtf is this shit? After my sniper got attacked by an Andromedon on the roof, he fell through the roof on the ground floor and is now stuck in this sofa. Getting pretty comfy there I suppose? Can't move at all.

Edit: After some turns, the sofa disappeared now and he can move again.

So how is this compared to XCOM one? Better or worse or more of the same?

Considerably better in most ways, more of the same in other ways, worse in code/performance based ways

I wouldn't be able to go back to the first, LW mod or not

Well this sounds interesting

The Shock Trooper Class
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=631056086

New Class With Completely Unique Ability Trees!

Trained in marksmanship and rapid assault tactics, Shock Troopers are fearless frontline soldiers who bring mobile firepower to the battlefield. Armed with SMGs and an experimental light flame projector, Shock Troopers are specialised in fast moving operations and hit and run attacks.

Should dodge have a cooldown? When an Archon dodges 3 attacks in a row...

Dodging while exposed is odd too. Just had a lancer dodge two shots in a row (not in cover). Overall, a shitty mechanic. They could have just given all the enemies more health...I don't really get it.

Downloaded this so I could take apart the Spray and Prey ability to learn how to do the AOE Suppression ability I want.

Dodge sucks. I'm not sure what the point of it is really, other than a middle finger to the player. Firaxis seem to be confused about what good random is and what bad random is.

I've only really seen dodge work with the Vipers in my games, maybe at a certain percentage of hit chance, dodge is disabled? But then how would you balance that for your squad versus the aliens? Archon's bullshit is that battle rage mechanic. Here, let's give the thing with an absurd movement radius an extra move!

Blazing Pions or whatever it's called should be disabled if the Archon dies too.

The whole random linkage thing is bullshit. I'm approximately a month or two away from losing because the campaign decided to put two facilities next to each other and yet not link them.

I suppose it *is* partially my fault considering that I tried a different build order in the beginning.

I'm fine with how Dodge works... except with shots with a 100% chance to hit. Fuck that shit.

Then you're not fine with dodge. :p But anyway, I think 100% chance to hit disabling dodge is in that EU rolls mod, but you have to tweak the ini.

It's crazy how that's all you've seen of dodge in your games. It certainly isn't disabled. Not at 100% chance to hit, not at 100% chance to crit, unless you use that EU aiming rolls mod that makes it so the player and enemy can't dodge crits. I admit that you can't just take dodge out of the game and call it a day, but all it really is, is like RNG extra health. Just give things more health I say, that way I at least know that if I hit with these shots, it will die. The challenge should be the same since they have more health, but there would be less of that "fuck this game" feeling.

And I totally ate a Blazing Pinions the first time I encountered it, since I thought killing the Archon would stop whatever it was targeting my squad.

Im sick of enemies having inherent defense.

My first encounter with a muton on legendary ironman, I destroy its cover, its out in the open, everyone has 60-80% shots because of the inherent 10% defense. Its a big giant enemy, one of the largest in the game, it should be easier to hit not harder.

And it goes up to my guys and kills all of them because i, of course, miss every shot. End of a pretty far and going well ironman run.

For my next one I think Im going to tweak the .ini a little bit, add some defensive bonus for height advantage and also do something about flanked enemies being so hard to hit. I loved "absolutely critical" in the second wave options of enemy unknown.

I've got 4-digit hours in both RTS and Dota. Even while XCOM is far more granular, it's a much faster read for me.

Speaking of RTS, not sure if I have enough nades for this lol

(Ranger overextended, popped out of concealment by enemy around corner, activated 2 more pods)

this might be the end

edit:

Maybe not. Depends how many shots this mimic beacon lasts!

(That Sectopod isn't activated. Thank God for reconceal)

damn I thought it was the 'defend the avenger' mission at first.

It is.

edit:

Hahaha wow, this Sectopod pod barreled right at the Avenger on its turn and I don't know if that's scripted behavior or if it's activated somehow. (I don't think it did - the soldiers aren't in cover)

Don't have a shot with my sharpshooter (bluescreen rounds) so I dunno if I want to do this. If it's NOT activated, as far as I understand the game mechanics it means it activates and gets a movement turn even if I cancel after checking out the percentages.

edit2: legit sweaty palms, pretty flawless Legendary run so far, just got plasma heavies and sniper too.

Well that wasn't too bad at all. Mimic beacons OP

Also thank God for an overabundance of engineers - I had one staffing defense matrix and the turrets are doing 10 damage a shot even without upgrade.

AHAHAHA THE ROLL TO END ALL ROLLS

Well, I guess this Legendary run continues!

I wonder if you really can't dodge out of the game and call it a day.
I still see no purpose for the mechanic other than making 100% shots not really be 100%.

So uh maybe I've gotten really good at the game, but I've actually had to mod the game to make at least the advent soldiers hit more often.

Flanking and grenades, alongside all your other skills, with the right strategy, can destroy enemy squads so well. You really do have to be aggressive and cut their numbers down as much as possible, taking risks when necessary.

Guess it's the game just rewarding strategy :D

Nice. My avenger defense came right after mag weapons and I barely got out of there with a working team. Half my roster was wounded and I lost my best specialist. I maybe had 1 captain at the time and every reinforcement drop had a heavy MEC in it. Was slowly losing the attrition battle so my last two turns were a hail mary of running back to the ramp and hoping they didn't kill anyone in open/half cover lol.

Are you playing on Legendary?

This game has gotten too easy. I have moved from veteran to commander and I see no change in the challenge. I am an experienced xcom player but when I read some of this thread about crazy detailed percentage talk, and strategy it's like a different language. I just play as I always played xcom and it seems to be working too well. I guess I can bump to legendary but I wanted to save that for a whole new game run. I feel like legendary will make way too many changes right in the middle of my game, it will be weird.

The game cheats for you on anything lower than legendary.

Yeah I read that. So why were there so many reviews saying this game is so much harder. Doesn't it make the meta game longer if I jump to legendary. That's really what's holding me back, i want to end my first run already, I don't want it to go for longer.
