XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

I thought the actual game was going to be patched with the photobooth.
Awwwww. :(
-
And very worringly, the photobooth ignores mods, which means a lot of bald people from my character pools. lol.

anyone actually have the OT? I checked a few days ago and it didn't look like it.

i'd do it but it'd be a joke OT because I actually want to play the expansion pack completely blind

My earlier worries that the game would be easier because of faction heroes seems to not be panning out for streamers. It takes a while for a hero to become a god, meanwhile the chosen rise in power quite fast. If you can't keep up on the strategic side, they will overpower you.

Faction heroes, btw, seem rather weak on the beggining. They really need to be carried and nurtured before starting to be the swiss army knives they can be.

Will the advanced campaign options be patched into vanilla as well?

This sounds incredible. I cannot wait for this expansion.

It's not really that the power levels of the enemy are increased, it's just that the game have so many curveballs now. Between the chosen, sitreps, fatigue, lost, convert ops and so on, the game is a lot more unpredictable and, well, it's xcom, you can't lose control of the situation and simple nice missions where you take your top people is not the norm anymore.

You're going to kick yourself: https://www.humblebundle.com/2k-playstation-bundle

$20 for XCOM 2, plus eight other (mainly PS3 and Vita) games.

Yeah i already did :(

A quick question for you ironman veterans:

If you're A squad get wiped early game, should i go further or reboot ?

Also, should i do the mission qualified as "difficult" early one or i can i wait ?
I'm speaking about the first mission they ask you to
go in a kind of human farm
.

As a rule of thumb, I restart after a wipe, but it is not at all impossible to recover. I guess it depends on who you got left. If all your best people are lost, the game won't get any easier.

The difficulty tags actually don't matter that much. That mission will scale in difficulty as you progress the game, it's just that you tend to overpower the aliens at the same time. So it's up to you, really, if you feel you have a good team who is kicking ass in general, then that team is probably good enough for the story missions regardless of when you do it.

I personally do the blacksite asap for the precious early game XP.

Alright thanks, i think i'll restart. It dosen't get tedious to restart every time after a wipe ? Maybe letter it's easier to recover ?

If getting wiped is common, then dial down the difficulty.
It's a tough game. No shame at all in starting at a low diff.

Some tips: keep using grenades and flashbangs until you research better weapons.

Also remember that Sectoids prioritize psi powers -- particularly raising dead Advent -- over blasting your squad.

Just saw this on my Facebook, from the XCOM page:

To ensure the best experience for console players, XCOM 2: War of the Chosen will now launch 9/12 on PS4 and Xbox One. PC launch is still 8/29.

Fucking hell. Think I can cancel my PSN preorder?

I'm not sure whether I should buy X2. The digital deluxe is on sale on PS4 for £16/21 USD.

I bought enemy unknown and played it a bit, but never got too far into it. Enemy within, the same.

I like the idea of the ga,es, but something about the flow or execution of them never sat right.

X2 looks a lot better. Especially with the new DLC.

Is it more compelling than the previous games?

Buying it from Humble Bundle is less so if you get it, get it there

Thank you for this. I think the Xcom 2 in the bundle is the base game, whereas on the PSN EU shop it's the game and all DLC released so far.

The bundle is a better deal for people with a PS3 and Vita though, definitely.

Edit-

Bought it on PSN, it using a points card with a small discount, so I got it for £1 less than the sale price.

This Photobooth/propaganda feature is genius, it's already garnering free attention and marketing while also being incredibly entertaining to make and see what others have made. It's probably my favourite feature (that I know of) in WOTC.

It's kind of boring, but I see the AP system and all I can think is that I really want a specialist who can heal and combat protocol at the same time. lol

I can see this feature being a huge timesink.

I'm currently doing a new playthrough with the DLC content and I have to say the alien rulers are tough. I just had the first encounter with the archont ruler and he pretty much slaughtered my entire team. It's kind of an extreme rule that he reacts during my turn not only to attacks but also to stuff like moving, reloading weapons or going into overwatch. I also like the SPARK's from the other DLC. Still have my first one and I'm close to promoting it to champion. :)

I tested out a bunch of cosmetic mods in the Photo Booth demo, and based on what I saw, here's should happen with WOTC:

More or less fully functional:
Military Camouflage Patterns
More eye colors
More armor colors
HistoricalCamoPack
Mass Effect Armor & Camo Pack
New Countries
Custom Face Paints
Lipstick Pack (Facepaint)
Stargate Glyphs
More hair colors
Symmetrical Kevlar Arms!
Valkyria Chronicles Country Pack
MGS 4 Frog Trooper Outfit
Anarchys Children Extra Options
SliWhists SPARK Pack
Adam Jensen's Glasses
Stenchfury Modular Armors

Barely functional:
Eyepatch Right (no texture)
[Customisation Set] Im Too Fancy For Thouse Ayys (some textures/materials might not be working right)
XCOM EU/EW Ports: Helmets (textures don't load and can cause crashing)
WA'sCustomGear (texture errors)
Halo ODST Armour (no textures)
XCOM EU/EW Ports: Extras (no texture, causes lag)
Halo Reach Marines Pack (texture errors on helmets, not textures on everything else)
EW MEC Ports (no textures, slight lag)
ME3 Tali Squadmate (no textures besides face plate)
ME3 Kasumi Squadmate (some textures load, others don't)
ME 3 Cat-6 Mercenaries Pack (no textures)
CX Praetor Armor (Doomguy / Chick 2016) (leg & 1 helmet textures work, error on transparent face plate, no textures on arms and chest)
Warden Gear (no textures and/or texture errors)

I've just started playing. After about three or four missions I decided to try to take
Lily Shen to a laboratory
.

It was really, really difficult. Did I attempt it too early? I'd not really developed anything or levelled my characters up.

Yeah, that was way too early. The DLC missions really ought to be ignored until you get mag rifles.

Thanks for the advice. I think the worst bit was when one soldier survived multiple overwatch shots - including one at point-blank - to get to an extraction point, only for enemies to block her ability to extract. She was stuck in a corner, hunkered down, waiting for death as she lay across the corpse of her dead squad mate.

This was on rookie.

I do the Shen's tower as soon as it appears for that OP early spark, but I cheese the hell out of it.

I should do a vídeo tutorial for the tower. I regularly flawless it on legend unless you count Lily as a human being who feels pain and get hurt.

Did you check the GMG links on the previous page? :(

oh. No sir, I did not. I only looked at Steam's price for it. I have to admit I'm probably not buying it right away anyway, so it's not a real issue for me. My system is now the 'absolute minimum spec' for the game whereas previously it was higher, so it's upgrade first, game later, for me.

edit: 30 through GMG is more reasonable. Gonna have to think about it.

Are all of the DLCs good? Or just a few of them? Will buy some with the War of the Chosen.
Alien Hunters and Shen's Last Gift are pretty good and are going to get rebalanced for WOTC to change some of their more negative attributes (less annoying Alien Ruler behavior and buffing SPARKs).

Anarchy's Children is nice for getting more hair customization, but if you don't like the Mad Max aesthetic, feel free to skip it.

Nice. Got to skip Anarchy's Children since I Power Ranger theme my soldiers. Hahahahhaha

I can't wait to play this. XCOM 2 is video game crack. I'm going on vacation for a week two days after it comes out though. I'll never finish a run in that time and then Destiny 2 is out when I come back. Why did fall game releases have to start up right around XCOM time?

Can't wait anymore. Started playing Xcom 2... *sigh*

Aye, I picked up my nearly abandoned Legendary Ironman run but i doubt I'll have it finished before the expansion drops as I'm spending this weekend spoiling my other half so I can spend most of next weekend on the game, I've got Thursday to Tuesday off work too :-D

Hopefully a lot of the QoL mods will work from the get go.

I can't go back to the non "Overwatch all, Stop wasting my time, Numeric Health Display" xcom life.

At least gotcha is baseline now. That was really a needed one.

what is this mod you're talking about exactly?

I don't really have an issue with the base game and I do like the changes made from EU/EW, so I'm curious what issues (other than that cheating hack of a Viper, grrr, and some other things like wall detection) people have with the flow of Xcom 2 vanilla.
