XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

Another thing I noticed is that if your Ranger has the Implacable Perk then it can sometimes interfere with the Reaper skill in a weird way, Because you killed someone, Implacable seems to take effect and you get a weird mix of "No action but a free move" and "Free action"

Everyone playing on Ironman is really brave considering the amount of bugs the game has. I've ran into more than enough unfair bugs to scare me away from doing that until I see some patching.

anyone playing this on rookie? im pondering dropping the difficulty down a notch. really wish there was a level in between rookie and veteran.

this game is worse than dark souls in terms of difficulty.

Yeah, I've had to auto-save a few times because the game refuses to go to the next turn or soldiers die for literally no reason.

Not trusting this game until it gets extensively patched.

I thought the same, but there is a point in Veteran where you get lots of projects done and you can easily overpower the enemy.

The grind to get there may make people switch to a lower difficulty though.

I did for a while, it becomes trivially easy once you get plasma weapons and power armour, but then I guess that's the point.

like the first XCOM game, I think the beginning is a bit of a slog where you could be tempted to drop the difficulty, but it's the contrast between that and when you get advanced weapons and armour & can thus fuck everything up that makes the late-game feel so joyous

i think it's fine to drop down the difficulty until you feel it's too easy then you can raise it back. personal preference. better than having people quit the game outta frustration.

I genuinely considered doing this as well. But I started a 3rd veteran campaign and rushed mag weapons, plated armor, and the guerilla tactics school and I haven't had too many issues and I'm really late game now.

Faceless, for sure. You can at least avoid civilians to dodge them, what if a Chryssalid ganks you out of nowhere?

Yeah if it's not a retaliation mission and you aren't pressured to help civilians, no reason to be near them. Faceless on every mission wouldn't be as bad.

I went with faceless (as in avoiding those), from what ive seen of Chryssalids this time around they are nowhere near as scary as EU

I might try to rush Psionics on my next campaign, maybe build two labs so that I can eventually have 4 operatives in training at once.

Would help me with a B and C teams in the long term.

Has anybody tried this? Is it terrible?

i'll need to grab that

Nothing like watching a Longwatch sniper do a 17 Health Damage Critical on a newly revealed Sectopod.

Deadeye is pretty neat with
AP rounds too, when combined with an advanced scope, not to mention Serial Perk
.

They're way nerfed from EU imo

No more zombies being spawned to create hassle for you. Burrow means they aren't running around the map killing people and making more of themselves usually. Later game weapons smash them, later game armor means you can tank them pretty safely. Psychic powers work on them now so you can screw them over in that way too.

Combat specialists are perfect for dealing with mechs. Stunning or taking control of a sectopod is fun.

Also, kinda disappointed that enemies like sectoids and vipers seem to stop appearing after a point. Just when my soldiers were getting good enough to resist psychic attacks.
Hopefully someone will mod in sectood and viper equivalents of the muton centurion or the upgraded Advent.

Mod ideas:

A flying soldier class as a counterpart to the Archon
Ability to create "hybrid" versions of two different classes for your soldiers
More effective sword stuff at late game (since it becomes more like a gimmick and not particularly more effective than just moving and shooting by then)

I got an Avenger Facility question for those of you who completed the game.

I didn't have any power coils near the top, so I built my Power Relay in a normal space. Can that, with upgrades, power the entire thing? I have two coils lower down, and I found out facilities built on those draw no power, and there's a Hidden Reserves bonus to get in Africa for +5 Power.

But the question is... that last coil, do I build my
Psi-Lab
or another Power Relay on it? Are there any power-hog plot buildings to make later?

Also, can you get every area with just one Resistance Comms or do you need two? Do you even need all areas?

Just bring back the Archangel armor.

Agreed on others. Oh, and that Chrssalids should be nomming civvies.

Serial with Superior Extended Ammo and Superior Sight = woooooooooooooooooow

In my experience, despite severe $ shortages throughout mid and early game, once you're past a certain point (Teched to plasma, done a few blacksite missions) it's no longer an issue at all, but you may need to get territories to advance some blacksites or facilities still.

This game definitely snowballs harder than the first, both in terms of economy and soldier effectiveness

Sword can be decent in certain situations. Like you've got one turn left on a guy, and he hasn't got line of sight on an enemy, just run over and stab him.

First playthrough ended in disaster. Had to defend the Avenger and my entire squad was wounded after that mission. 12 enemies and then 3 more every turn, of course they were wounded. I was damn lucky nobody died, but it doesn't matter. The time it takes to heal up and then make contact with the US fills the Avatar bar and starts a countdown. I just don't have the time to pull it off. I'm just going to start over.

one thing that disappoints me about sword is the perk where the Ranger auto attacks anyone attacking them with melee. it misses too much. but it's pretty OP as an attack.

Wondering if the LOS glitches have to do with geometry data rather than engine shenanigans. This is the third time (on two different playthroughs) where this exact spot acts as if it doesn't block LOS. And it's only that one tile.

I think a decent buff to sword would be if it shredded or ignored armor. It would make them more useful late game when the vast majority of enemies have a shit ton of armor all the time.

jesus christ that mission was by far the hardest so far. stupid amount of enemies on a cramped 8 turn map. 2 teleporting fuckers and 1 of the big fat robot suit next to 2 turrets, then 2 anime-mehc guys with a sword guy, and after all that, a gatekeeper with a shield bearer and something else at the end near the objective. Had to use all my heals, all my bombs, everything, it was ridiculous. And various reloads of course. Doesnt help that I didnt go in with the best team since im trying to rank up other guys

we full anime now boys!

WAR and Wraith suits worth it over the warden? Im still using spider on my sniper(s) tho, the grapple is too good, but the EXO suit is outclassed by the regular Warden

Once I complete the game, how long is the "obtaining world stats" supposed to take to get the stats? been going on like 10+ minutes now, still stuck on it

I like Wrath suits for hit and run Rangers and Snipers.

Used War suits for grenadiers

I didn't try Wraith, but WAR is a Warden suit with one item slot less, 1 extra armor and a heavy weapon ala EXO suit. Oh, and a shield ability you will probably never use :p

Every time I get a new mission I'm nervous. I always think it's going to be the one where shit goes south. I'm afraid of having to restart again :(
