I just discovered the greatness that is the Ishin version of Machinegun Kiss. I can't stop listening to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D43JJ2Yckc
you know what? Your excellent OP has sold me on this. As a fan of Sega of Japan's quirky arcade-influenced output, this franchise always seemed like something I'd enjoy, and a fresh start on PS4 seems like the perfect place to begin.
Rest assured knowing your well-written OP has gained at least one new customer.
Started playing Yakuza 5 recently, loved Kazuma's part but Saejima's is the most boring stuff I've played in a Yakuza game ever. I definitely remember not liking Saejima in Yakuza 4 either.
Anyway, looking forward to this. More Kazuma and Majima.
I've not ever played one, so I guess I'm your target audience. I read the whole thread. Im really not convinced to buy it. You clearly care so I'll tell you why you failed to convince me.
1. You don't really explain the combat. Is it a high point or just there? Is there variety? Bosses are just bullet sponges (fist sponges)? How is that fun?
2. So the only thing I know about the story is that it's got overly long cutscenes and it will be tough to remember characters names. Give better examples of why this story is interesting. I can watch 1000 crime procedurals on TV. Why should I watch this instead?
3. Show, don't say. Don't tell me it's good. Tell me why it's good. I don't know you. I don't trust you at your word for something like this.
4. Cut out like half of your words. You don't need them and this is too long. Literally half.
5. You need to address how going 0, 1, 5, 6 is going to be remotely ok.
6. The history of Yakuza does not matter.
I don't mean to be harsh. You clearly care about this, so I'm just giving feedback you can hopefully take and use to convince me and others this is worth my time.
I'm glad you liked 5, and I wish I did too! but the pacing takes a nosedive starting with Saejima's chapter and I like Saejima. The game is also really fuckin easy, I wish I played on hard... and it felt like there were far more encounters than in the rest of the series.
Now the question is, are these Yakuza games actually good games, or are they just "it's yakuza" kind of deal? I have no idea about the actual quality of them.
And in 6, though I have no idea how much it relates to the past games, the other games didn't have too much riding on previous entries apart from some returning characters and over time, you can more or less work out what's going on with each one.

I can't wait after finally getting into the series with 4. Now if only I could convince some of my friends to get into this.
"Oh, so this is like GTA?"
How do you respond to that?
If you say yes: "Gotcha, cool, I'll just go play GTA now".
If you say, no, it's kind of a mix between RPG and brawler that..."Okay, cool, I'll just go play FIFA now."
I think next time I just answer no without any kind of follow up and if they start to inquire I'll just snap at them for no reason and go home, maybe that'll work?
Never played any in the series but I'm thinking about this one. Can you turn off the flashy effects that emanate on your character?

I want to get into the series but i'm kinda confused, should i start with Kiwami or 0? Is Kiwami a remake? Is 0 a prequel? Will i get lost and confused with 0's history?
Sorry if you answered that in the OP, don't have the time to read all that (but i bookmarked it)
So I'm not alone. 5 was a letdown to me. Hated the Haruka chapter especially.
I'm in for Zero though.
As an outsider to the series I'm always a bit confused at how the western fanbase is nonstop doom and gloom about localization, when the games always seem to come out here eventually.
A prequel does sound like a good place to start and I'm interested in the series. I have 5 from PS+ but hauling my PS3 out of the closet is probably not happening anytime soon.
I'd like to get behind Yakuza, but no Pro patch and the horrible release date means I gotta pass. Same date as RE7 and Tales of Beseria and 4 days after GR2? Who makes these horrible decisions?
This. A lot of this seems like pining about a series that I haven't played, and with the OP, as fervent and happy for the game as they are, I haven't been sold on the game by the OP.
Now the question is, are these Yakuza games actually good games, or are they just "it's yakuza" kind of deal? I have no idea about the actual quality of them.
Is a Steam version of the game happening?
ffs stop recommending that people skip games in the series
Just play whatever earliest title you have access to. First two are PS2 so that's a challenge. Y3 is physical only. Y4 and Y5 digital on PS3. Y0 onward on PS4.
oh and yeah arbok that poster is right, you're really overwriting things. A sweet tiger punching gif is worth a thousand words.

I've never played a Yakuza game.
I got 4 for free with Plus, and then bought a used copy of 3.
I got 5 on sale for 30.
I have 0 preordered on PSN.
I was very happy to see Kiwami and 6 announced at PSX (I was there).
During the show I met and asked Shane from Sony if we were going to get a PS2 Classic release of 2 on PS4 since we got those other announcements, and he said "that would make sense"
I'm very excited to finally jump in to the series with 0... after RE7, GR2, and Nier 2 lol

How long does it take to unlock the platinum trophy?
Man, these threads are killing me, I've wanted to get into the series for the longest time, but was waiting to be sure it had a chance to establish itself in the west first. Becoming a fan of a series with no localizations isn't fun.
Now that they're confirming every new game tho, I guess it's time. I plan to start from the first one on PS2 soon and play them all (maybe skip Dead Souls or whatever it's called?). The series looks right up my alley and these threads hype the hell out of me haha, it's weird.
How long are these, by the way? I'm dead set on playing them all, but I'd still like to have an idea of how long it'll take me.
RE7 is happening but I'll will surely beat 0 before 1's rerelease2017 will be the year I get into Yakuza.
How long does it take to unlock the platinum trophy?
Man, is it just me, or are there a lot of "getting started with Yakuza" threads these days? Yakuza fans are weird. I'm one of them. I approve this thread, and I have the game preordered.
please don't do this to yourself.
I suppose and perhaps the longer the wait, the greater enjoyment.
Yakuza 0 was on the list of Pro enhanced titles during Sony's Pro reveal conference. Is this optimized for the Pro?
Thank you for this information. I will temper my expections. One of the lead programmers said it won't have support. Tweet here.
