Is this topic just about the graphics?
sorry but good open world action games really are not made by graphic. What really matter is how alive the world feels, how much you have to do in it without being repetitve and how much you get motivated to explore every detail of it.
For me open world action games really have to problem of becoming boring very fast because of repetitive elements. The only games that really got me hooked are AC2 and RDR besides GTA:VC
Got Infamous 2 trough PS+ and quitted after about half an hour, so i wouldnt buy Second Son just because it looks nice
Seriously? What is with people quitting a game after 30 minutes? Especially an open world game, where most of the game mechanics are locked. 30 minutes of inFAMOUS 2 isn't even completing the first tutorials. In 30 minutes, you literally get the opening combat tutorial, arrive at New Marais, and talk to Kuo. You don't even get to Doctor Wolfe, who introduces you to the Blast Cores and you get your first new power.
Think of inFAMOUS games as RPG-lites in the way they unfold. Most RPGs don't hit you with awesome in the first 30 minutes. Hell, my favorite RPG of all time, Chrono Trigger, doesn't really get going until a good 2 or 3 hours in, then it doesn't let up.
Applied to inFAMOUS, the RPG comparison is that Cole/Delsin begin the game at Level 1. By the end of the game, they are at Level 30. At Level 1 in any RPG, how many awesome skills/abilities do you have? Most of the time, you don't even have a Cure or Heal spell.
Cole/Delsin gain abilities as the game progresses. This includes offensive and defensive powers. You get XP, and you use that XP to upgrade those abilities, and some abilities are upgraded through plot progression also (ie, the upgraded Static Thrusters in inFAMOUS 2 are a fucking game changer that you unlock about halfway through the game; following the good path, the Ice Jump is your next kick ass traversal power). Quitting on an inFAMOUS game in the first 30 minutes is like quitting an RPG after the hero's town is destroyed and he has to embark on his epic journey of self discovery. inFAMOUS 1 has the same progression in that you gain new abilities as the story progresses. Not quite a spoiler, but inFAMOUS 2 had 40 abilities that Cole unlocked as he progressed through the game. With those abilities, the "repetitiveness" of the combat scenarios fades, because you have so many tools at your disposal to mix and match.
tl;dr: You missed out on an awesome game by quitting on it too early.
Back to Second Son: Man, the screens look amazing. It's going to be a long week, but worth it for me. I've managed to avoid power and plot spoilers, so I'm really looking forward to the weekend.
