Trials Fusion runs at 720p on PS4?

this fixation on resolution is fucking ridiculous. what difference does it make as long as the game is FUN? it's impossible to read a discussion without this shit coming up nowadays.

Certainly seems to be ruining games for a lot of people. Unfortunately..... I am stoked for this game assuming it's coming for x1

TIL we still have members that don't know the difference between rendering resolution and display mode.

I wish some games could render in 720p though. It would be sweet to have a 60fps Lego game like we did back in the PS2 days.

I don't care what resolution it's in. As long as it's fun, it's bought. Probably for 360 so I can play against my old Trials buddies

360 version of evolution was perfection, PC version was crappy. So there is the potential to be wary about fusion

You just clicked a thread named "Trials Fusion runs at 720p on PS4?" and now you're pissed because people are talking about the resolution of the game? Now that is fucking ridiculous.

Are you sure you're not confusing this with Evolution? That sounds exactly like the awful PC port by Ubisoft Shanghai. I was under the impression that Fusion's PC port was done in-house and performance was much improved.

I recorded some footage too which I may upload some time later.

I expect everything from RedLynx. I pre-purchased Trials Evolution on steam due to its 'optimized for PC!', then it came with a broken and unplayable online code (and with Uplay also) and I couldnt get a refund.

I'll wait now.

Yes, game play trumps everything. This goes without saying in video games. Key word being game. A game needs to be fun for it to succeed at being a good game.

With the obvious out of the way, why do new consoles even get released if there is nothing else other than fun to be had out of playing games? Clearly if resolution does not mean anything, we could all still own NES's and be done with it, could we not?
And why are there different types of graphics cards for PC's? Surely it would be much easier for all involved if there was only one card released by all of the GPU manufacturers.
Same goes for Televisions. Who needs an HD television if all of this is irrelevant.

I can keep going on and on but I think you get my point. Technology keeps progressing, and as a consumer who has made the decision to spend my hard earned money on said technology, I expect my video game consoles to progress at an equal or near equal pace as all of the other technologies that I own are capable of.

I would be just as disappointed if a video game released these days that only supported 2.1 sound and not 5.1 at the very least (although my receiver and setup is in fact capable of 7.1). There is no difference when it comes to resolution just because a game is still fun.

I actually am on the fence as to which version to get here (X1 or PS4) so if this somehow wound up being true, it could make my decision much easier.

Cancelling pre-order if true, no way I'm buying a 720p next gen game unless it's a very demanding game that sacrificed res over IQ.

I'm a lot more tired of reading/hearing reactions like that than I am of the actual resolution discussions. There's PLENTY of discussion going on about video games all over the internet, and even on this forum alone, that doesn't have anything to do with resolution. If people want to discuss it, why mock them or tell them they're wasting their time? If you don't care about resolution, I don't know why you don't simply avoid threads talking about it. The argument that fun is all that matters is weird as well, you can have both. Some of us like discussing tech. I like my games to be fun AND to be crisp and beautiful to look at. I really don't see why so many people are annoyed with this discussion. We also spend a lot of time talking about microtransactions, and I don't care about those. I don't spend money on them or talk about them much either, but it doesn't annoy me to death when people talk about them.

I have eyesight problems and jaggies can really hurt readability for me. I've played games on console and couldn't play for more than an hour, and then was able to put MUCH more time into it in the PC versions due to resolution.

One of the reasons this beginning of gen has been exciting for me. I wasn't really expiating developers to invest into 1080p at all.

With a 60" 1080p screen. Resolution is a big factor for me. "FUN" isn't the only reason I play games, I also tend to look at them a lot.

Plus, we're in the 'next gen'. a 720p game is basically unforgivable at this point.

I agree, 792p is the LEAST I will allow myself to enjoy! :)

Why should this simple as fuck looking game not run at my television's native resolution on the brand new console I bought?

That's why people are up in arms about it. Hopefully it's just an error.

It's also impossible to participate in a thread about a game's resolution without these shit posts coming up nowadays.

I played the first set of levels in the PC beta and didn't notice any problems besides some texture pop-in on initial level load. People who played Evolution (on 360 at least, I didn't play the PC version) know what I'm talking about. Granted, my rig is pretty good (i5 3550K at 4.3 Ghz and 770 GTX w/ 4 GB VRAM).

I don't know why people are surprised at there being no PS3 version. Both Trials HD and Evolution were 360 only (Evolution later ported to PC). I'm speculating here, but they probably didn't have a version of their engine running on the PS3 and considered it a waste of resources this late in its life cycle.

Visuals are an important part of a visual media. It matters to people with a 1080p screen, yes a 720p game will look fine on a 1080p screen but a 1080p game will look even better.
Also the PS4 has more than enough "grunt" to do this game in 1080p, therefore the developers are lazy.

PS:-
Shouldn't you get banned now since you didn't contribute to the thread and just complained about it?

It would be strange for a game of this nature to not be 1080p but refusing to buy it due to it? It's Trials... The game has never been known (and/or played for that matter) due to "great graphics". A bit silly IMO.

The PS3 controller really isn't up to it either.

As for for 720gate. These games are deceptively complex, the 360 games ran at 720p 60fps I believe, with a engine geared towards a heavy physics usage. I don't doubt this a communications cock up.

Edit: Some interesting DF articles regarding the first two games.

If an arcade game releases on both systems, does Microsoft's "parity" rule mean that it must release at the same resolution?

Yep I'm getting this either way, but I'd like it to look the best it can possibly look given the choice.

The parity clause is about release dates as Kinyou pointed out, even then it only applies to self published games. Also there aren't really 'arcade' games any more, just games.

Isn't the parity clause just about release dates?
I'm wondering whether it also includes feature parity. It wouldn't surprise me, as a way to stop indies from cutting stuff out of the X1 version to meet the simultaneous launch requirement.

If that were true we'd have heard about it by now from angry devs.
