Ubisoft: Watch_Dogs will run at 900p on PS4 and 792p on XB1, both at 30fps

Just because the new consoles have PC like hardware does not mean you can treat it like a PC. I think many devs especially ubisoft will try to get away from optimising thier games for consoles and I am not going to support this habit. OK so I was never going to buy the game but now Im 100% certain.
 
Why are devs having so much trouble hitting 1080/60? Or even just 1080? Is it an 'early in the gen' sort of problem?

Most devs will never aim for 60 frames, if there is more power to be used, it will go to the graphics. A stronger PS4 would've just had shinier graphics instead of 60 fps.
 
Yeah, the resolution is not the problem, it's a cross-platform game after all so they need to do lot's of adjustements and downgrades in some cases... The problem IMO is the fact that Sony LIED with putting that big banner on their website stating that the game will run at full 1080 at 60 frames per second. Talk about fake advertisement at it's finest....

Infamous is a action beatem up .. Not nearly as complicated as other open world games.

It's not a good benchmark.
 
Cross-gen game with six months of extra polish is 900p, 30fps?

792. What kind of resolution is that. They should have just stuck to 720 and admitted their failure. At least it would run a bit smoother.

With all the weird resolutions maybe MS made it mandatory that the games be higher than 720 so devs just increase it by a bit to get it above 720?

Holy shit... I cannot believe this.

And that statement... "They're just numbers." Wow. I'm definitely contemplated going and canceling my pre-order right now. I've been on the fence, but figured it would be a solid visual showcase for next gen open world (Yeah I know, downgrades and whatnot but even still), but if this is the case, honestly I'm not sure why I'm picking it up because I'm sure as hell not set on gameplay.

Seriously, what the hell happened to this game?

1080p is a standard that I expect to be followed on a system for that kind of price and tech that's in it. BF4 I could cope with not being 1080p. Now this too? Thankfully this is only the second game on PS4 that's not running in 1080p. They better not make it into a habit though. Considering the same system has Infamous SS this is somewhat embarrassing.
900p = noticeable loss of detail.
 
Cross-gen development fucking games over again it seems. How is it that Sucker Punch figured this problem out already - while looking 1000x more impressive I might add- and Ubisoft can't even get 1080p?

Even though I have a PC that will crush this game on max, I wanted to get this on PS4 :(
 
People need to stop expecting their $400 console to be as powerful as $800 gaming PC's.

There are two PS4 games that don't run at 1080p. Two. BF4 and this. Everything else is 1080p. It's the de facto standard resolution on the console. Infamous is 1080p, and looks much better than this. So while you're right that the PS4 cannot be expected to match a much more expensive PC, there's nothing odd about expecting 1080p. The PS4 has been shown again and again to be fully capable of it, so when a game fails to achieve that it's perfectly reasonable to ask why the hell that is.
 
This is embarrassing for both console, i don't know who is to blame, Ubi or the hardware?

The game is far from impressive so i really don't get it, if i was told it is 900P i would have guessed it's because they went with 60 FPS, but this is the first (i guess of many) 900P/30 FPS game on the PS4 :(

This gen is really gonna suck technically if this is what we get in it's first year with such an unimpressive game and a very easy hardware to work on, so disappointing.
 
Guys honest question: will games built especially for next-gen achieve 1080p/60 or 30 fps more easily? Or maybe being more graphically intensive will just worsen the situation for the rest of the gen?
 
The amount of people that are skipping this game purely because of a resolution and 30 FPS is crazy.

Your loss, I'll buy and enjoy this game.

Ubisoft just gave me no reason to get on the PS4. Will get the clearly superior PC version now.

i'm skipping the game because it looks like yet another awful open world snooze fest, regardless of the tech issues

Not a single mention to WiiU

PS360 will be surely sub-HD (600p or so..) but what about the WiiU version... will be at least 720p?
 
I think their QA department needs a makeover much more than their engineers, quite frankly.

Given that the bugs come from abysmal programmers, I disagree. Get better programmers, have less technical issues, have less bugs related to code.

They have literally zero excuse for that kind of performance - open world or otherwise. What we've seen from gameplay videos already shows a massive decrease in the visual quality of the game compared to what we originally saw years ago. After seeing a game like Infamous perform the way it does, to say this is a disappointment is an understatement.

Ubisoft literally could not have handled the entire production of this game worse than they have. It's impossible. And the way they write it off as "Framerate and resolution are just numbers" is incredibly lazy and goes to show how little their programmers really know.

Had the game preordered on PS4. Hate to say it (and it's the first time I've said it,) but preorder cancelled. I'll wait for it to go on sale on PC. And consider all my hype for The Division completely lost.
 
As more AAA developers try new things in the future pushing the graphical envelope to new heights, or not optimizing well, this will not be the last title to be sub 1080 I have a feeling on the ps4. Curious if some will hit 720 for X1 in the future.

I guess time will tell, but folks shouldn't obsess over the resolution numbers either if gameplay is decent.
 
Exactly, I cannot imagine Watch Dogs taking up any more resources than Second Son.

I can. No, I hope. Because as nice as SS looks there isn't a lot going on in the (very small) world, it's all surface, the streets are rather empty most of the time, the city simulation is simple etc. Could still be Ubisoft being Ubisoft of course.
 
Oh my god! It won't run at 1080p!! 900p games suck! It will ruin the experience!! My eagle eyes can't take anything less than 1080p! What about the DDR 5???

Seriously if you care so much about resolution get a PC and play at 4K and 60fps
