Retro showed me that if you are quick you can use the last jump crystal power to launch up the sail onto the diving platform.

Fort Salma in Kessex and there's some in the tunnel waypoints near skrittburg and a few others around brisban.

Also you can see a centaur on a cliff in dry top just standing there.

I really love the subtle hint stuff that ANet does.

In regards to levels and whatnot, originally GW2 had no levels but they didn't want to freak people out on top of all of the stuff they were doing that was a radical shift from what people expected in an MMO. Really though levels don't really matter much at all here considering that you're downscaled anywhere you go and no content is ever irrelevant to you. That and they are given to you for pretty much everything and at a breakneck speed really reinforces the idea that the levels were only added to appease those who MUST have a number they can increase.

Hearts and world events are quests. You just don't have to talk to the npc. For some reason, that is enough to make some think that they aren't quests. God forbid that the damn npc's have eyeballs.

I'd say that you shouldn't start a discussion with those guys, tho. Only brings more attention to their posts.Unless you do something like welltall did. That was some ether.

Absolutely, it's all a matter of presentation and the way that Hearts are presented to the player is a natural evolution of the quest hub mechanic without being forced to do them. Not only are you not forced to ever do more than one Heart in the entire game, but you have multiple objectives for every one and they can be sped up due to DEs in the area. No traditional questing system in any MMO allows you to skip every quest, have multiple completion objectives that you can choose from, a way to speed up the quest completion, or allow you to not have to talk to anyone at all. As I said to Katoki, I didn't even respond to him cause it's pointless.

I would be okay with this, if it was temporary. People quickly forget how big the world is, and how much stuff happens in it, when they just waypoint around to all the big events. I've been running around zones lately with the express purpose of not using waypoints to get around, and man, the game suddenly starts feeling a lot bigger when you do that.

Making all players suddenly have to trek, even if many will grumble, will ultimately do a lot of good I feel. Plus, it'd look pretty cool.

I always have fond memories of playing Ryzom (bet you've not heard that name in a while), in which newbies are trekked across the vast deserts by guilds, since they would never make it alone. Upwards of thirty or more players, all huddled together, with the higher level guild members running escort around the perimeter, as they're taken on a twenty minute trip from the city to the first desert outpost.

Y'know, the game would probably be better without levels and with even quicker ways to attain bandit's exo gear of your choice. A most likely immediate side-effect would be the death of the eotm xp train, and another would be far more wvw fighting, given that then gear and uplevels aren't concerns.

Wouldnt surprise me if they some day moved wvw and eotm to the pvp system. Would certainly like to see it happen, even if only for a limited time, just to see the results (besides tp going absolutely crazy).

In other news I think I prefer shield to pair with axe and bow for warrior sPvP. You're ridiculously well-rounded: burst, soft cc, hard cc, channeled block, aoe condi pressure, party might stacking. And you can still get thieves to say, "WTF did that warrior hit me with?" in map chat.

I don't sPVP, but this sounds like something I want to try. I'm a big fan of versatility on my Warrior and this sounds solid. Mind linking a build or posting the details?

Don't get me wrong, I loved this game. But there are a lot of things in it that are the result of two minds: One wanting to be really innovative and one being really afraid to move forward. While there are hundreds of brilliant ideas in the game, there are dozens of half-baked ones. It's strange, but to be expected given the scale of the project.

It feels like ArenaNet was in the middle of a leap forward when they realized concessions needed to be made to the LCD or their ability to sustain the game over the long term would be impacted. The good news is, I see them walking the game back from that with each update. When was the last time you saw a new heart quest added? I wouldn't be shocked if one of their goals is to quietly bring Guild Wars 2 back to their original concept over the life of the game, with the 'old stuff' serving as an extended tutorial.

I was initially against making Dry Top a level 80 zone (given that it borders low level zones and Living World content has always upscaled), but maybe they're just going to add all of the new content at 80. Then it's kind of the Guild Wars 1 effect; you level really quickly and then just go do stuff. For all intents and purposes, the game becomes 'Level-less" at 80. Bet people will still claim it has no Endgame.

Also, to get around the "need" for levels, you guys can ask Ash what I suggested for his game. I dunno if he's going to use it or not, if he does I don't want to just post it.

I, personally, would prefer the version of GW2 that goes all the way to the action-platformer end of the spectrum. No levels, no hearts, no stats. You unlock skills/traits over time but could take on the toughest enemy in the game in the first 10 minutes if you had the skill for it.

Yeah, Jira mentioned this and we got on and ran around a bit. The one that's completely entangled is in Skrittsburg. Which means the vines will hit hardest here, the skritt will join forces with the Pact and we'll have Playable Skritt. YAY!

The warrior would be at a disadvantage in pvp because of the fact that his attacks are more easily dodged by real players than other classes .

I took it with a grain of salt but i thought id ask to be sure .

I love this. Tying the waypoints into the events, it's like in a wow like MMO if the mounts all got diseased or something. This is huge.

nah, pve warriors use different weapons than PVP ones, take for exemple in PVP dual wielding axes proves to be very good for offensive players, and there are so many toolkit combinations they are very versatile.

also great damage output. a wide range of CC, a good suportive class, can play both ranged and close combat, add that to the heavy armor factor and good mobility.

they are basically made to PVP, and they dont even have to use dirty tricks.

On my mesmer, almost all the way to 80, whenever I wanted to adventure I'd go to LA, then the closest racial city to wherever I was trying to explore, and just wander out from there. I saw so much stuff I had never seen before despite already having seen the same zones on my first character (and even 100%ed some of those).

If anything, and I say this having warrior as the single class I haven't played myself, they are the most consistently viable class across all forms of content in the game. There really isn't a whole lot you can't spec a warrior to do well (except reflection, though I think they can even get a little of that with a trait?).

That is one of the coolest assets/effects I have seen in the game since launch...

I don't sPVP, but this sounds like something I want to try. I'm a big fan of versatility on my Warrior and this sounds solid. Mind linking a build or posting the details?

Here's what I'm running. Axe/shield + bow with basic hambow utilities. I choose valkyrie amulet and exploit it with sigil of intelligence. The only issue with axe/shield is it's difficult to optimize the traits. Burst Mastery and Cleansing Ire are the only must haves. Right now I'm going 20606, taking 1500 more health in the first line and shield master in the third.

There's a little something to this. Warriors are not the best at 1v1, but fortunately that's not the heart of sPvP. The problem is dodging a giant fire field or repeated Earthshakers in a 3v3 middle point fight.

There really isn't a whole lot you can't spec a warrior to do well (except reflection, though I think they can even get a little of that with a trait?).

Nope, warriors are great at this too, but personally not party-wide. My gimmick build had 3 channeled reflects with the longest CD at 24 seconds.

A birdie said that increasing the rate of leveling to be even a lower barrier it is that currently is actually something they're discussing in the office. It sounded a lot like there are two sort of schools of thought, one being the "omggggg who cares about endgame we just want cool stuff for everyone to play" and the other being the "yeah okay but we really need to position something specific as endgame for marketing purposes"

I do hope some new zones added are not level 80 zones. That is to say, Wayfarer Foothills connects to Frostgorge Sound, so it's not like there's no precedent for low-level zones leading straight through to high level ones, but it would be cool for some new, spiffy zones they wind up adding could be viable to explore and level in, even if the story instances themselves (and meta events, for that matter- that would be awesome!) would still be 80 across the board.

That said I bet Dry Top is mondo XP for level 70+.

Here's the thing. You know how greatsword is considered by many to be the be all end all of the warrior in pve? Weeeell, a lotta people try to do the same thing with warriors in pvp. Get bolas, bull charge, lock a player down, pop frenzy and unleash.

That only really works against very new players or people caught with their pants completely down. Everyone else will be more than familiar with the GS toolset and how to avoid it. And then they're shafted. And then they complain about how warriors suck in pvp.

Now look at the hammer's toolset. That thing is freaking made for pvp. Same goes for mace, sword, axe mh or shield. Only way warriors really suck at it is if you insist on using GS, which a lotta people love using.

Or, to put it more succintly, this is the team that won the NA Tournament of Legends, and this is the team that won the european ToL.

Essentially, there is no such thing as a "home server" in PvE anymore. There are always only as many instances of a map (per Region, NA or EU) as needed to contain the number of players that are on that map. It will use an algorithm to try and place you into the best "version" intelligently, such as the one that contains your friends or guildmates or others from the same home server.

Long and short of it is- it's not just the starting areas, every zone in the game is more populated now.

Need an invite (back) to the guild? Post a character or account name?

I was just gonna say. stuff like this might not matter much to people (and I know there is a chunk of the playerbase who is all, "gg ANet, you should be spending time on x rather than this shit") but it gets me HYPED. No hints, no patch notes, no obvious indicators, just stuff for players to find and share... starting to feel like this next patch will be fuck-awesome.

I don't believe a word of this. I think you're afraid to play warrior because deep down you know it is the master class, and you won't be able to go back to your previous squishiness once you bathe in its transcendent glory.

Hope this story arc leads to a portal straight to Cantha with a 2year aniversary announcement of a Cantha+Ritualist expansion, or something like that. Feel this game could use a large injection of new content(non episodic content that is). Checked the game out at the start of the season after having not played for a year and a half and the amount of new stuff was fairly disapointing.

Hope this story arc leads to a portal straight to Cantha with a 2year aniversary announcement of a Cantha+Ritualist expansion, or something like that. Feel this game could use a large injection of new content(non episodic content that is). Checked the game out at the start of the season after having not played for a year and a half and the amount of new stuff was fairly disapointing.

Hopefully since the "seasonal" events were constructed in year 1 and will repeat with minor changes will allow for ANet to focus more on bulk additions like those.
