Legend of Korra Book 3: Change |OT| SCHEDULEBENDING

I bailed out of Korra with around 2 episodes left in season 2. Is it worth finishing out the season? Is it worth starting up season 3?

I though Avatar: TLA was incredible, and S1 of Korra was in line with TLA S2 in quality. Season 2 seemed all over the place (even more than 1) but I liked that two-parter in the spirit world.

The last two episodes in season two are truly WTF worthy. But Season 3 has been excellent so far (we're halfway through), and the plot deals with consequences of decisions made in the ending of season 2, so you may just want to bear the pain weather through them.

my thoughts on korra...
season one... not good but not the worst thing ever
season two first half.... just plain not good
2 part special... great
rest of season 2... decent, good if I ignore some serious jumps for the sake of plot.
season 3 so far... good and very enjoyable, not even a contest the most consistently enjoyable korra has been period with parts of it actually getting somewhat close to the 2 part special.

I bailed out of Korra with around 4 episodes left in season 2. Is it worth finishing out the season? Is it worth starting up season 3?

Might as well finish off Book 2 as Book 3 has been fantastic so far
The last 4 episodes of Book 2 are fun but yeah the finale is certainly something, caused quite a bit of division amongst fans about it

I enjoyed it, but I purposely forced myself not to think to hard about it as I was still happy they had fixed korra and made her a character I could actually like instead of the horrible person she was before she was fixed.

So many animated action series' have been jerked around the last few years. I think I'm done following them after the ones I'm currently watching are finished. it's just too frustrating

I'd agree, but then I just watched the star wars rebels trailer and don't think I can ignore it :/

Clearly someone at Nick wanted Korra dead and sabotaged it starting with season 2.

i wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. maybe someone can look into if there was some sort of management shift around then. apparently it's what led to the cancellation of the third pete and pete season shipping out to retailers despite manufacturing being done, or at least the art work/promo shots.

I doubt that. This is par for the course for Nickelodeon. If it's not Sponge Bob, Fairly Odd Parents, or Live Action, Nick loses interest fast. The majority of new animated shows they air are lucky to get more than One or Two seasons.

Even TMNT, a known Merchandise Juggernaut, isn't save from Nick's incompetence. The sporadic scheduling. of TMNT is worse than Korra's.

It's not entirely about ratings alone, guys. It's about demographics and advertisements.

Invader ZIM had *fantastic* ratings on Nickelodeon, but it got cancelled anyway because the wrong people were watching it.

Nickelodeon essentially sells massive channel-wide ad slot packages to keep that side of their business simple (as opposed to selling specific slots for specific shows) and to give themselves maximum flexibility for rescheduling. The downside to this is that they need every show to basically be watched by the same demographic. Invader ZIM got cancelled because its viewers were too old (and didn't give a shit about the products being advertised during the show). Legend of Korra has the same problem.

So how many, if any, episodes are we getting this week?

I've seen conflicting reports. Some say one, some say the standard two, others are saying we won't get anything until Aug 1st.

Book 3 is well done. It is much better than Season 2. Compared to season 1, overall the structure is better but the 3 major plot threads aren't as interesting as Amon and the Equalist plot initially was.

Don't forget about merchandise. If a merchandise deal falls through, than that show is basically dead. This mostly concerns Action Cartoons than it does Comedy due to how more expensive it is to produce them.

That sounds like a dumb way to run a television network in 2014.

Why are they taking it off the air? WTF? Isn't it one of their highest rated shows?

So I guess this means no season 4 then.

Well it used to be but now because of Nicks erratic scheduling and lack of promotion/advertising for the show it barely gets more than 1.5 million viewers per episode
We are still getting Book 4 because they are pretty far ahead into it its just a matter of how we get it at this point, Straight to dvd/blu or digital release are possible options

And there is most definitely a Book 4. All the pre-production is done and Studio Mir is hard at work on the animation

What time is the panel? I'm dying to know the fate of Korra. I hope it comes to either a free website or Netflix (the only paid streaming sub I have).

Is it going to have a live stream?

Unfortunately not, but there will be lots of people posting more or less live reactions/reports to tumblr. dongbufeng.tumblr.com is the source I read most frequently. korranation.tumblr.com is the official page and they say they'll be live-blogging. bryankonietzko.tumblr.com and michaeldantedimartino.tumblr.com are the pages of the creators but probably won't be the first ones to report on the panel since they'll won't be on their phones during it.

If the final season ever does go to a paid sub website, it'd be Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus. Netflix doesn't have the rights to Nickelodeon shows. And the only free website that would be allowed to show it would be Nick.com.

The fact that the remaining episodes aren't even being kicked off to Nicktoons, an also-ran network, is kind of mind boggling to me.

If it wasn't for checking this thread like once a month I wouldn't have even known when book 3 started. And they don't have book 3 episodes on their own website like they did with book 1 and 2? At least, they don't show up for me. Seems like a cluster

Ok guys, I'm here at Ballroom 20 at Comic-Com, waiting for the Korra panel, which starts in about 35 minutes. I'll try and post as many updates as possible but without creating too many posts.

Ooh lucky should be fun seeing all of the cast and crew
What's the atmosphere like in the room by the way? Nervous excited?

Right now it's the Big Bang Theory panel. Not a fan of the show but Craig Ferguson is moderating the shiz out of it, he's been great.

I'm guessing that half of the 45,000 are here for Korra waiting for the panel, although it's Comic-Con and fanboys overlap. I myself am nervous, but overall, the atmosphere is normal for Comic-Con. Hope they show at least one episode!

Try and find out if Legend of Korra is ever going on iTunes for me.

Saturday? I meant from Friday night premieres. See, right there is a perfect example of how screwy their scheduling is.

lmao

That's right, they had the whole Turtle Takeover Fridays thing going on for a while. Oh Nick, what's wrong with you?

This is why I loved Cartoon Cartoon Fridays back on the old Cartoon Network. For years, that was always the night catch the primere's of the cartoons. No random moving to another day.

gravity falls will only have its next season though.

Well that sucks. But at least it sounds like it's the creator's intention, plus I doubt Disney will completing yank it off the air like Nick's gonna do Korra.

That's awesome. How long did you have to wait in line? I'd love to go to SDCC one day if I can save up enough money/time off to make the trip out to San Diego.

It's starting, with a VP of Nick moderating. Heard some boos behind me haha.

Voice cast coming out. Haha, some awesome cartoons of them with their characters. There's Janet, David, Asami's actor (forgot how to spell her name), Verrick's and Mindy Sterling! Along with the creators.

They start off with the changes to the programming right away. It's all part of a "sea change" in TV, relating it with the whole cable cutting movement and says that Tv ratings for Book 1 were great but they were already seeing huge presence online.

Book 2 finale was the biggest streaming event in Nicks history. They were already planning a full transfer to online. Bryke admits that the transition could've gone better, but that Everything is going smoothly and book 3 blu ray coming out this year, December I think.

Book 4 is a go, no worries.

Here comes the episode!!!! It's 8, tonight's episode, "The Terror within"
