SDCC: Last of Us movie announced.

Gotta go for Anson Mount on this as far as looks go. It's about as perfect as you could want out of a real life looking Joel. Seriously, that side by side. ND is aware of him right ? Has someone tweeted the pic and has there been a reaction from them ?

While I do think that The Last of US would make for an easily adaptable movie I'd that it wasn't in production as the game itself was already like a movie. Adapting that seems like taking the easy route.

I'd like to see someone do something unsuspected and turn something like Jet Set Radio, Trauma Center, or Kirby into a great movie.

Anson Mount would be perfect. I like him in Hell on Wheels.

I don't think she's right for this role. Yes, definitely she'll bring a lot of interest to the film but she's so well-known as Arya that it might overshadow the Ellie role. It also doesn't help that both characters are a bit similar thematically.

Also, how's her American accent?

This is how I feel about most modern, narrative driven games. The quality of visuals and acting is so high now that adapting them into another visual form is really unnecessary, especially when the game is as cinematic as something like Uncharted or TLOU.

That said - it is good in the sense that a well-made movie based on a game can bring that great story and characters to people who don't play video games and would not have experienced it otherwise. I don't blame them for wanting to cash in on a popular franchise, and the level of involvement Neil has makes me think this will turn out well.

There are very few ways to fuck this up. These are way how not to.

1: Act out the game

2: Make the actors in the Mushroom Heads more active in the movie vs. the game.

3: Pick great actors and (an actress) that fit....

4:Leave the favorite parts of the game the movie ,just play them out flawless (so you want hear shit from the internet on how bad it sucks).

5: Let the developers have 80% of the control in the movie and not a shit director that never played the game in his life.

Correct me if I am wrong...

Currently Druckman is involved in:

Last of Us Remastered (just finished)
Uncharted 4
Uncharted movie
Unannounced ND project
Last of Us Movie

If all the above is correct.... am I the only one that is kind of scared that Druckman is dangerously close to becoming the... "Nomura" of Naughty Dog? The guy who is going to be involved in EVERYTHING?

And is that scary as far as quality goes? Because we saw what happened to Nomura and SE...

While I think Hugh Jackman could certainly pull this off (Prisoners was one of his best roles), I feel like this movie should go with someone more unknown in order to let the writing and material shine. I would have to go with Anson Mount. He can pull off the gruffness of the character and the dramatic parts. His work on Hell on Wheels is excellent and he's relatively unknown.

I think Maisie could pull off Ellie as well and she wouldn't be some huge star that would be stunt casting and/or over shine whoever plays Joel. I don't want to see some Disney-esque star picked just because they are a pretty face.

Holy shit, Joel!

I just watched Prisoners for the first time and Hugh Jackman 100% gets my vote! Brilliant film, and an excellent portrayal of a man who will "do what must be done".

I remember watching it.. and all i could think of was how awesome a Joel he would make..
Others who would be great as Joel would be Daniel Day Lewis (he can play any role)..

He didn't direct it, but he was one of the producers on it. Coulomb_Barrier asked what was the last quality movie that he produced or directed.
And your answer was the Evil Dead reboot?

Eesh. At least go with Drag Me to Hell. Within the last couple years, not a total piece of shit, and not an affront to an otherwise good series.

And is that scary as far as quality goes? Because we saw what happened to Nomura and SE...

Nomura wasn't responsible for FFXIII or FFXIV 1.0, nor was he in charge of which projects got the most focus.

His Kingdom Hearts series has so far been mostly quality and the two biggest, most anticipated games coming from SE are being directed by him.

Nomura isn't the reason for Square's misfortunes.

I came in here to post this. He even looks exactly like Joel in that movie. Dude is perfect for the role as long as he can do a decent southern accent.

Nomura was nothing more than a character/monster designer for the games not named Kingdom Hearts.

The barometer of Nomura's creative and game leadership work to date are 99% Kingdom Hearts, unless you think that KH games have gone down in quality.

Prisoners was one of his best roles!? All he did was look angry and grunt the whole time ... Which is on par for this character so that's good

I dont know if this has already been pointed out, but to quote myself from another part of the internet;

Maisie Williams is currently 17 years old. This movie apparently wont be out “for years”. She’s ok as a 13 year old in GoT right now, but come on.
I really doubt it’ll pass in 5 more years.

Why not.....Troy Baker ?

hahaha

maybe if he changed his hairstyle and hair color and grew proper beard

It seems some people never experienced book adaptions. How can something like an accent be a real obstacle for an awesome movie in the Last Of Us universe...
If you are that nitpicky we also should hope that there will be clipping errors and problems with the AI - it is part of the game so it has to be in the movie...

People should be happy that we get a good cast and ND seems to be really involved. But I am interested in suggestions for a better female lead.

I guess I should qualify that with I think it was one of his best roles. I admittedly haven't seen him in much...xmen/wolverine movies, swordfish are the only other movies I can recall. Haven't seen Les Miserables or Real Steel.

Obviously the last of us does not need a movie in any shape or form. It was a gem of a narrative for a game. But it will only equate to an average to okay blockbuster. It's just going to taint the franchise which in my opinion should forever remain untouched beyond this remastered ps4 edition.
