SDCC: Last of Us movie announced.

Did I say that they're not allowed to do it? I'm just saying that I don't see the point, but it seems like you're not interested in a discussion anyway.
It's not about interest. The fact that it's so cinematic it would help them to transition that into a movie format. Lots of people are interested in seeing a movie out of this because it's a unique (hopefully good) take on one of the best games of last generation. What is there to discuss? Anything transitioned in a different media will have differences, one being that it's not a 16-20 hour long movie.

Sony pls.

I don't really agree with you. I'd say both characters are rather similar. They both are tomboys and learn to deal with the dangerous world that surrounds them. And they both become dangerous enough to fend for themselves.

So why would she want to play the same character again? Just to fulfill fanboy wet dreams?

But is he a great actor? I haven't seen any Hell on Wheels beyond the pilot but he didn't show me much.

Acting ability is way more important than looking like the character.

I think he's pretty solid on the show as his character develops. I definitely think he can pull off the acting for this.

Not really sure how I feel about the possibility of Maisie Williams playing Ellie. Like someone mentioned in the other thread, I think Kaitlyn Dever would be a far better choice. But really, if they absolutely have to make this a movie, I'd really prefer a totally new story in the same universe. Adapting the game's story straight up would probably be better off as a television miniseries

IGN reports that since those tweets from April, Maisie Williams met with Raimi and Druckman regarding the casting of Ellie.

This. Needs. To. Happen.

They have to cast Josh Brolin as Joel

Both Brolin and Jackman would be perfect for the role. I am personally siding with Jackman though, after seeing his performance in Prisoners.

Exactly.

This movie is pointless.

There are still a lot more people that watch movies than play games, so if you can make the right movie that makes people interested in a series, then you're going to strike gold. I think that's a big part of why you still see a continued effort to make games into movies. They know what's going to happen if they can get it right. The problem is that no one has managed to do that yet.

I only see those differences as drawbacks.

Yea that film was fantastic, can't go wrong either way.

The story can easily fall flat on it's face in movie form. They reason it's so praised is more because of how it's delivered in a game format and the personal experience from the player justifying decisions made story-wise. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. If they are going to take the story from the game for the movie, I really don't see it being as impactful in the movie world as it is in the gaming world.. If that makes sense. The production values will most likely make up for a somewhat mediocre story and a possibly more crowd-pleasing approach.

Thats not really the reason.

He's got the ability. I prefer Anson because he's not too famous, he won't overshadow the role like the other proposed actors would and he can become Joel in way more well known actors likely couldn't, at least not as easily. He's got the look and the talent to pull of a great Joel. Hell on Wheels is a good show too, nothing amazing, but it's solid TV that's only gotten better.

Nobody has done it because the stories and characters in most games, including story-driven games, are absolute drivel by standards outside of this industry. TLOU is one of the very few exceptions. It's interesting that Druckmann himself is writing the screenplay, undoubtedly for the best, despite him not having any filmmaking experience whatsoever, which says a lot about the state of video game adaptations. :P Will this be any good? History says no, monumental odds against it say no. But maybe this is the one. Crazier things have happened. We live in a world where a Planet of the Apes reboot about the origin story of super intelligent Apes taking over the world is actually good.

The blueprint for this movie is obviously The Road, with some Children of Men in it, the same two influences that are all over the game itself.

If they get Maise Williams to star as Ellie, they need to go ahead and sign Rory McCann (Sandor Clegane) up as Joel. He's not doing anything right now and their chemistry was awesome.

Raime, Campbell, and Maise Williams? Yup, this will be alright. Totally unnecessary, but maybe a chance for this great story to reach a wider audience. Or make more money.

The movie will happen whether you want it or not, because money makes the world go round.

I restate that Jackman would be fantastic as Joel. Anyone who has not seen Prisoners need to watch it pronto.

His character in the film is also quite familiar to Joel. Doing what he has to in order to protect his loved ones. He would make a great cast for Joel.
