Doctor Doom is an anti-social computer programmer in the upcoming Fantastic Four film

That's basically what every live-action adaptation is. Even the Marvel Studios ones. And it's absolutely the best way to approach any of these adaptations as a fan.

Well, unless you are Marvel and start doing backwards integration and start converting and retconning your comic universe to match your cinematic universe. That's a whole other discussion though

Funny story; Fox had nothing to do with that.

Also funny story;
So it's perfectly sure that is Fox making this change for Doom? I still think there is always an agreement from both the parties.
And about the "real Mandarin" we'll se about that :)

Funny i actually liked the Mandarin right up until the reveal in IM3, i hadnt seen many trailers or spoilers so i was expecting....something

Actually I liked the plot twist as well, but still felt that "something something" about kinda wasting such a villain.

I felt like IM3 was a conscious reworking of the original character, knowing exactly what made the original great, and choosing to go a different direction by playing with your expectations. It's totally okay to dislike it... but I felt that was a consious re-imagining whether you like it or not. The people who wrote that character knew who the original Mandarin was

Look, it's not like I got angry at this, totally opposite, I was amazed by their blunt choice.
But nonetheless they "ruinined" a character.
This movie could be a reversed "Mandarin", with a awful presentation and amazing final outcome.

Totally different studio

Also the Mandarin change was retconned

Also the Mandarin change wasn't even that bad. Even if you didn't like it, it ain't on this level

I saw just now about the supposed retcon, it will be interesting I guess

One day Doom will get his film.
Its criminal for one of the Marvel U's most premier villains to be treated so badly, not once, but twice!

I imagine if Doom were real, he would be most displeased...

That's a great gif.

KEBBELL: He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours—I’m a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m “Doom”.

that shit looks cheesy as fuck too. i can't believe this dude and his magic powerglove are the endgame for avengers. ultron already looks >>>>

also it sounds like fox just wants to annoy the fans with this one lol.

The fans? Pretty sure they will only annoy their financers with this strategy. The fans stopped caring two movies ago.

The fact he was first hired and the movie was then built around him suggests it pretty strongly, I'd argue. You'd have to counter-argue that the movie is trying to be a more faithful representation of the Fantastic Four and the normal team dynamics that go along with that.

I don't think that's what we're getting, obviously.

Do you have any evidence to back up what you're saying, or is this all speculation based on the fact that Jordan was the first person cast for the film? Because if it's the latter, then would you say that Terrence Howard as Rhodey was the centrepiece of Iron Man? After all, he was the first actor hired and the highest paid.

Do you have any evidence to back up what you're saying,

Read the thread where I'm talking about why I'm making the fucking argument, explaining as such in decent enough detail so as to make as clear as possible why I'm saying what I'm saying.

So far as the Terrence Howard/Iron Man counterargument goes, even if that's absolutely correct (and not a matter of Howard simply beating Downey to the dotted line if that's what happened) that's ONE example versus HOW MANY EXAMPLES of movies being made using the logic I laid out in the previous post. I guarantee you there's way more of mine than there is of yours.

edit: and after doing some research, Robert Downey Jr. was cast and announced as Stark before Howard got hired as Rhodey.

CONSPIRACY THEORY
Could Fox be trying to sabotage the genre? XMEN APOCALYPSE being the final film, well it should be, and this fuck up called Fantastic Four, could they be trying to get us fatigued on superheros, maybe bring people back to Avatar world or whatever else the can come up with
/conspiracy

What? No. What?

FOX just wants someone the audience can relate to. Reed is a genius with a beautiful woman, Johnny Storm is black with a white sister, another guy is made of rock, and the last is a beautiful woman. FFS, people, this is basic storytelling: They know we can't be like any of these people, so they gave us representation within the film universe.

And turned us into the bad guy. Because, you know, bad guys are awesome.

Oh Fox.
What we know about FF4 movie Doom: He has a different name and is a programmer instead of a scientist. He posts on "Blogging" sites.

None of this precludes the character from having any of the history or back story he has in the comics.
So he's a computer programmer blogger and also the monarch of his own isolationist nation? I guess everyone needs a hobby.

[excerpt from the Fantastic Four script]

Reed Richards [trying to access the DOOM database]: "Access main program....Access main security....Access main program grid...."

Suddenly, a wall of text appears on screen, stating one phrase: AH AH AH! AH AH AH! YOU DIDN'T SAY THE MAGIC WORD! AH AH AH! AH AH AH!

A tiny chibi-like avatar of Username: DOOM appears on a computer screen adjacent, repeating the line over and over, while wagging its finger.

While keeping his body in his computer chair, Reed stretches his head over to the other computer screen, screaming past his smoldering cigarette: "PLEASE! GODDAMNIT! I HATE THIS HACKER CRAP!"

Nope. This isn't another Quicksilver.

You mean the character from DoFP called Quicksilver that has a terrible costume, acts nothing like the comic version, has powers more akin a character called The Flash and could have solved the whole movie he appears on his own but writers just put him on a bus because reasons?

I hated DoFPs Quicksilver.

Fuuuuuuckk. I really hate that this travesty of a movie is stopping Marvel from properly utilizing Doom. I don't even give a shit about the rest of FF, just Doom.

It will be funny to see what contrived plot device/McGuffin Singer comes up with to depower his Quicksilver in Apocalypse.

Or if they will send him off on a boat after his 1 scene this time.

Ya, he only exists in the movie because they thought of a cool sequence where someone like him could appear, but he is merely a plot device. That said, it is more than you can say of several other characters that appear in DoFP, who have literally nothing of value to contribute to the thing.
And also have pretty shit costumes.

Still, it was an entertaining movie with good performances, and those few elements are actually strong and well done.

I'm just saying that it was a case where many on GAF were tremendously negative and opinion reversed by and large.

Pretty much everything outside of the past sucked dongs there.

Almost everything about this movie has bothered me from the very beginning. The goofy choice of actor for Reed Richards, the changing of both the race and supposedly the personality for Johnny, and both the look and origin of Doom. The only thing that looks good to me so far is the way Thing looks.

Post credits scene in Avengers 3 pt. 2.

I would freaking wet my pants if that happened. And a solo movie based on that graphic novel where he teams with Doc Strange and takes on Mephisto OH LAWD I'M HYPERVENTILATING

Edit.: And Avengers 4 would certainly have to be Secret Wars. It even has the Thanos-like simpiness of the main villain losing to himself.

Dr Strange & Doom go to Hell would be the greatest movie of all time

I actually think Marvel/Disney should pay Fox not to release this. It could potentially hurt the Marvel brand in general.

I had a very similar theory. One Fox was so low budget on this film that they offered Box Office Percentage to all the actors and extremely low upfront pay. The goal was to screw everyone involved y actually getting Disney/Marvel to make sure this movie never actually makes it to the Box Office to make any money. Fox walks with $500M take home on a $2.5 investment, selling the license back to Marvel.

Or, Fox intentionally had the actors cast doubt as they are offering a bonus to all the leads if they can make this movie sound so bad that Disney/Marvel makes Fox an offer to never let this movie see a release period. They only actually filmed enough of the movie to make a gawdawful trailer in hopes of tempting Marvel to open that MCU wallet and pay up.
which is why there wasn't really a script of costumes and filming lasted for 3 months. (LOL)

Oh how I wish that contract had a "You've gotta be kidding me. Look, we both know you're not even trying anymore..." clause.

I really hope they have some sort of "with respect of the license/source material" clause and/or a "damaging to the brand" clause that opens the offending party to immediate forfeiture of the license and possible lawsuit for damages.
