That's a way to fit 2x Smash.
Not this year it won't. (Unless MrWizard is running the double reverse troll, which I wouldn't put past him.)

This is something that has been proposed multiple times and it's always been canned due to logistical issues between staff, volunteers, and players. I think the only way this could work is if it was set up so that players for specific games could go without having to be there all four days. That and the event is draining enough as it is, I'm afraid that an extra day would lead me to end up so out of it by the end I'll end up driving randomly into the desert on the way home. It's both an amazing and an awful idea.

If you asked me this 5-10 years ago, I would have been all for it. Now... I would still go for it (since I know I would be able to get the time off of work), but I could see why people would have a big problem with it.

From Air:

Alright, i kept you guys hanging long enough abt kazunoko's and pepeday's top 4 chars in USF4.
Kazu
1.) E.ryu
2.) Akuma (the fireball buff made a big difference apparently)
3.) Ibuki
4.) Rolento (nemo says rolento is def in the top
Pepedai
1.) E.ryu
2.) Yun (daigo doesnt think yun is in top 10)
3.) Ibuki
4.) Seth (I said that when 1.04 released after two days)
What are your thoughts?

Daigo thinks Yun's not eem top 10 anymore after a few nerfs lol

Akuma top 2 tho

Speaking of MKX, suppose to be a hype trailer tomorrow

Also, in case you haven't heard, PC Chris is coming back and wants to make a serious run in Melee. Just finished watching this 2 hour interview with Chillin, where PC goes over why he's coming back, his expectations, his take on the evolution of the Melee scene, and his first impressions of his episode in the Smash documentary. Yes, he's never watched his episode until now. Very fascinating watch, or listen. Honestly, I played Demon's Souls while listening to most of it. Great stuff.

My man. I just booted up Demon's Souls myself for the first time in a long time. I guess I'll do the same.

Will definitely watch this. Also, is there anyway I can find a hyperbolic time chamber for Melee? Wouldn't mind standing a chance with my Sheik in Melee.

What it comes down to is: Which is more important? The "newness" of a game, or the amount of players willing to compete in a game? Do they both have equal weight? If not, at what quantity does the number of potential applicants for Melee trump Smash4's newness?

The first leads to the second. Newer game= more people want to play it because it's less stale.

As for the four day EVO- I think it could work, as long as it was a holiday weekend, and Smash and SF were on Friday and Monday (two major games without much overlap in players) Would be nice to get some events in as well like dev panels and concerts (I still think Chocoblanka should do a concert at a major sometime)

And that is why I say they are bad at teaching people. The layman does not want to sit through a tutorial.
The layman doesn't want to learn anything past the controls really. FGs is a genre that require a lot of learning and a big time investment.
Someone not willing to go through that will never get into competitive fighting games, all you can do is provide a decent platform for those who want to learn and put enough none competitive features to justify the purchase for those not interested in the competitive side.

While this correct, I do think that fighting games might have to learn a new way to teach people. I never play MOBAs, how are you taught the basics in those? They seem really popular and people are more than willing to learn how to play them.

I don't know but I'm with the black dude. He's just doing his thang and the other guy/chick put his hand on him at 40 seconds.

Why are they calming his ass down? Other dude/chick literally put hands on him. How the fuck is that acceptable? Other dude/chick (with the mad catz bag) should of got thrown out.

Of course I'm just going off the video and don't know any back story, but still the fuck? I mean he could of swing and claim self defense there easy.

MOBA's tutorials are very simple(the ones I tried at least), they basically just teach you the rules and the controls, anyone interested in something more would have to go through the community stuff(which MOBAs does a much better job at than fighters).

MOBAs are hard to compare though, at the lowest level of entry, they're a bit harder than fighting games to pick up and play, but once you're past that, to actually start using characters effectively or how they're supposed to be used, it's nowhere near as hard as getting good with a character in a fighting game.

I wasn't there for it but I heard plenty about it since I know the Alabama players.

ShinBlade pops off during a team tournament. Didn't hear what he said but it just sounded like normal tournament hyping-yourself-up kind of stuff. Stands up on the chair taking more sidebet money, then NaughtyZeut (a friend of the opposing team) steps in and tries to forcefully put him in his seat, even ripping his shirt. Then the staff intervenes. Not sure what happened afterwards other than her being removed from the venue for the rest of the weekend.

She posted about it on Facebook later and it just seems like it was the last straw in a series of unrelated events that made her snap or something.

I was just happy for non-Marvel-related drama for once. *shrug*

I've actually never played KI but it's definitely entertaining to watch, unlike smash or any other fighting game that isn't SF, or Marvel.

The exact opposite for me. Just can't get excited for KI if I tried, and SF is mostly dull nowadays. I've seen so little Marvel it manages to surprise a bit, but meh.

Melee and anime = win.

Well it turns out that this isn't universally true.

1025 entrants for Melee and 712 for for Smash 4. Numbers have probably gone up slightly since this pic was made as the registration keeps getting extended, but the fact remains that Apex 2015 not only has more entrants for Melee than Smash 4, but is about to be the biggest Melee tournament in history.

It probably helps that the big two are played on PC and have all of their respective developers support behind them.

Original DotA was more popular online than any fighting game even though it was just a Warcraft 3 fan made mod. There's more to the appeal of MOBA's than just dev/community support, though it does help, I'd say f2p plays a bigger part.

Speaking of which, SFV will probably go f2p sometime in the future. With the change from updated paid versions to free updates + paid DLC characters make it easy to switch the game to completely free anytime they want. They can have a weekly rotating available characters and with the rest being DLC. Also, Chun's noodles hat shows that they're experimenting with that kind of accessories on character, which can easily be turned into something similar to Team Fortress hats when they go f2p.

I wonder how much of the Melee boom was due to SmashU. Between excitement for Smash before release, and those who came to play SmashU after release only to be disappointing and start playing Melee again afterward.
Wish Project M was allowed there, would be interesting to see where it stands compared to SmashU.
