New Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae screenshots

While I agree that there will probably be visual improvements from Episode Duscae to the actual retail release, I don't think the Luminous Engine version numbers can be used as the basis for any argument. They are arbitrary and without changelogs really tell us nothing other than that they are still developing the engine, not necessarily improving graphics.

Sure, some revisions may have more improvements than others.

The difference here is that they've clearly stuck to their word and upgraded the game, and also said that more upgrades are to come. There's no reason to not believe when this is the one aspect that they've clearly delivered on thus far.

There's nothing wrong with how the game looks, IMO. With how big they want to make this world, I'm happy with it's current build, if they should just release it like this(even though I'm sure they'll add more touch ups between the release of the demo and before release of the actual game).

uhh ignoring character and enemie models and simply talking about vegetation and small details skyrim looked better.

Yeah, just put those on the backburner because they obviously don't matter at all when you're comparing these two games. Not to mention that Skyrim is a finished product that had a glorious PC release in which it had help from custom mods. For a console game of this scope, FFXV looks very, very impressive and there's more going on with the actual animations and combat and characters on-screen than in Skyrim. There's a lot to take into consideration but you're simply using baseline examples.

You also have some really basic shit that square enix is apperantly not getting for example look at this picture

why the fuck if you dont have enough draw distance wouldn you atleast make the ground the same colour as the "missing" grass its just crazy.
Oblivion figuered that one out years ago. Oh well FF15 is also years away so maybe the fix something soooo basic.

??? This is from TGS...the new footage clearly has vegetation extending far into the distance. In fact I would say it is better than most open world games I have played.

Personally, I think it is great that seem to have got it up to 1080p...FFXV will undoubtedly look spectacular when it releases.

I think it looks pretty good. The demo has clearly gone gold by now so the team can move on to finish the rest of the game and optimization as well as more technical whiz wow features will come towards the end.

The videos so far , outside of those specifically stated to be from Duscae , are likely captured straight from the game engine running on a PC. All the special effects planned for the final release turned up and every detail setting pushed to the max.

In an effort to give us a demo we can all actually play - they've turned down the world detail, draw distance, motion blur and vegetation level and the shadows appear to be restricted to the characters and monsters but not so much the environment.

Picking apart a screenshot is easy to do , seeing this in motion on your own television I think will be a much better experience. The only other game out right now to really compare it to would be Dragon Age Inquisition and technically this looks at least as good and it's only a demo.

For the umpteenth time, this is not how the game looks anymore. Please, at least make an effort to read some of the posts.

Exactly, and this is demo code for a game a year away, they had to optimize early to make sure it ran well far before the actual final code since this is running on retail hardware and not high end PCs.

I just hope the battle system is fun, the dungeon exploration is good, the story makes sense/is easy to follow, and the last boss is one of those composite demons whose background is some crazy space environment.

EDIT: FFXV is coming to Xbox one as well? I thought it was PS4 exclusive, or is that only in Japan?

It was announced for XB1 a long time ago. Don't know why they're wasting resources on Japan.

This doesn't seem to be the case. Aside from the recent footage, most of the footage seemed to be sub-1080p.

Also this smokes Inquisition...The geometry in this game looks close to 1:1 and the lighting seems much more dynamic. Character models also look much better. Inquisition looks great overall, but it is a pretty decent step down from this when viewed in motion.

So what's the word on the game quality of Type-0? Assuming the demo won't be spreadable, is the base game actually worth buying on its own grounds?

Also, if people want to get an idea of what this engine could look like maxed out on a super powerful PC, look at Agnis Philosophy. I think this engine is very powerful, and while it looks very nice from what we have seen on FFXV, I don't think we have seen what it could like pushing a powerful PC. Well I think we may have caught a glimpse in the tech demo they released.

I'll be disappointed if it's downgraded but when i saw the first gameplay footage i could feel they would struggle with the performances.. They are playing with open world, immense areas while using insane models everywhere.

Still.. I miss the time when the first FF of a gen was raising the bar. Hey maybe it will still.. Going multi probably didn't help them to keep that technical excellence.

Just like with MSGV.

Love the red undershoe (sole?). Kind of Louboutin like.

Final Fantasy still the king of fashion in gaming.

I love the direction they're going in with this game. The realistic lighting and shaders with the Luminous engine, the collaboration with Roen, and the faithful recreation of Amano's monster designs. The wilderness areas are kinda boring but the cities/towns look incredible.

Edit: The Final Fantasy franchise has plenty of fashion tragedies though.

Damn this thread (and many others) have made me glad I am NOT a game developer. People its just a damn demo. I really hope SE puts a big ass disclaimer at the beginning, and I hope the big gaming sites that you know will be covering it make sure to mention, hey its a work in progress and the demo has already cut multiple things, like magic and the car, or else it could turn into a shitstorm which it might either way.

Did Final Fantasy IV raise the bar?

VII brought in great pre-rendered assets but wasn't pushing the real time graphics of PS1.

Only X raised the bar... In facial animation. But it has rough spots compared to even earlier games like MGS2.

I would say FF has never "raised the bar" as you imply. It has always been a series that excels in artistic merits. XV will certainly do that.

Realize that this game is still a year to a year 1/2 away from release. They have plenty of time to optimize better for the final version.

Damns really ?

Why release a demo so soon if its going to take a while. I was expecting it this year...
Thats almost 12 years development time and counting.
Doesn't really matter though Xenoblade X is going occupy me for a long looonggg time.

Final Fantasy XII says otherwise. I would argue that IX really pushed the hardware on PS1 as well.

I think IV raised the bar as far as story goes?

I wouldn't share that opinion. FFVII blew away anything I had played with the incredible summons etc. FFX impressed me more than MGS2 at its contemporaries. FFXII had massive environments and some crazy battle sequences. The final boss impressed me more than anything in Oblivion when I first bought that. FFXIII looked visually very impressive whatever it is other glaring failures. FFXV looks pretty spectacular. Even [temporarily I am hoping] removing some vegetation shading doesn't detract from a game that looks better than anything I have played on current gen systems yet. Obviously the Order hitting this friday will reset the metric pretty definitively.

The game is beautiful.... and i'm really digging the scale. I hope this entry turns out to be exactly as it is portrayed.

Unpossible, you're probably a Justin Bieber fan.

Great comeback.

You're allowed to think this game looks terrible. That's your opinion, I doubt I could change that. But quoting a bunch of people who are skeptical of the silly downgrade comments with a childish retort isn't exactly a strong argument. Unlike the people that hype your predictions to death, I'm not a mindless follower that thinks your opinion is worth more than others.

You'd think 13 would have taught FF fans to be far less concerned with graphics and far more concerned with the game's quality.

People got it in their heads waaaay back when it and XIII were announced that XIII was "the bad one" and this was the good one, because Nomura was attached. Never mind the development hell it went through. Never mind the fact that Nomura's worked on some pretty bad games. XIII was the "bad one" and this was the good one. It had to be this way.

My comment was intentionally deceiving lol. It's is technically DLC because the demo is content that's downloadable. I'm not saying it's an extra part that was taken out of the final game to be sold seperately or something :p

This is something I complained about when we got that footage, but it extends further out and blends better in the new stuff.
Still not perfect, especially on the left with the darker grass, but the lighter grass blends pretty well in the distance.
