Im mainly commenting on the grilling of a member with bullshit like "way to go junior!" Or calling for a ban on them is lame as fuck when it could've been unintentional. Junior or not that person is a guy or girl posting on a forum like all of us. Makes no sense to make note of the junior thing when there are regular members here who post far more dumb shit than any new member.

Also, people keep asking spoilerish questions in what's a non-spoiler thread. Something was going to slip eventually. Whatever, no bigs.
 
Just finished the movie.
It was great.

- I have no idea why people have been saying, that Hawkeye is the "breakout" star, main character or the one with the biggest arc. It didn't feel that way, and he is by no means the main character.

- Vision got a lot more screen time, than I expected him to get. Loved his part.

- Scarlet Witch is as cool as I had hoped. I think she's even my new favorite Avenger. Such cool effects, potential, accent and performance.

- The only guys who seemed to be underdeveloped were Thor and Ultron. Actually Ultron were trash, and exactly what I expected. Such a disappointing villain. What a bad job really.

- Mid credits scene sucked.

- Various subplots but it wasn't confusing or any problem to follow.

- Many jokes around and I thought it would be crap with people's impressions but it didn't bother me at all. I actually think it was one of the movie's strength. That it was so lighthearted in a way.

I really don't know if it's better or worse than The Avengers, as I have to get my thought together when I get home.
 
I liked it more than I expected. I think it's better than the first Avengers flick in many regards. The first movie, while good, was formulaic as could be. Age of Ultron has some more interesting plot elements although some kind of feel jammed in there to give characters more screen time. The first movie is all about them meeting each other for the first time, but I felt that their interactions here where their relationships are more established helped conversations feel more natural and realistic. The action scenes were good, I especially liked the wombo combo team moves. The Hulkbuster fight was definitely a standout. Ultron was pretty lame though. He was best when being curious and thoughtful, and worst when being snarky. Loki was definitely a better villain.

I think if you enjoyed the first film, you will certainly enjoy this one. It is not as lean as the first flick, but the actors feel more comfortable in their roles and HULKBUSTER IS IN THIS.
 
The Hulkbuster fight were a little boring but the rest of the action scenes held up very well and they had some lovely team combos. I liked it most when it got more up close and personal, like with Nat and Banner.

Thor were very cool but unfortunately underdeveloped.

Also, I'm tired of Captain America and hope Tony beats him hard in Civil War.

Loki and Wilson Fisk are both better villains than Ultron. Ultron started out very well and the concept and acting were strong but unfortunately Whedon made him too much of a joke, and it never felt like there were any real dangerous threat, like the Chitauri invasion.

Scarlet Witch's visions were a highlight of the movie.

But I never thought I would say this, as I have mostly been lukewarm towards The Avengers. But I think I like The Avengers more than Age of Ultron, after having watched both today.

PS: This is the first time I'm feeling like the "Marvel formula" is wearing a little bin thin. This movie was really by the books.

Technically spoilers -
Several of Ultron's drones look a lot more like comics Ultron and he has the aforementioned red-glowing maw when when he communicates through them in several parts of the movie.
 
Went to the pre-screening last night, and I had a blast. Pretty on par with Winter Soldier and IM which are the highlight for the MCU to me.
 
Right now, Age of Ultron is ranking #7 on my list which also includes the TV shows.

The movie didn't have a memorable score like The Avengers and Guardians and the villain turned out to be weak. I would say Wilson Fisk, Loki and Winter Soldier were better enemies.

I'm really excited about Civil War now though, especially as the Russo brother are doing it. But I'm a little afraid, that the Yellow Jacket in Ant-Man is gonna turn out to be yet another weak villain.

I think what I disliked the most about Age of Ultron, now that it is setting up all of these upcoming movies is,
that there's literally no tension between
Steve and Tony.

I'd say that main theme is incredibly iconic.

I still feel like Ramin Djawadi's score in Iron Man 1 and Brian Tyler's work in Iron Man 3 are the best scores in the MCU. Also, while I know that The Winter Soldier's score was critically panned, I enjoyed it for what it is and it was probably the only movie with a score that stuck out more regularly.

Quicksilver dies in the movie
. I guess I should be thankful for being spoiled about it in this thread because otherwise I'd be very annoyed right now.

How come? From the big franchises this year, Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Mission Impossible are widely considered memorable and iconic, but Avengers seems more on a F&F level.

To be fair, it was quite obvious from the trailers.
 
The first Avengers movie did have an iconic and memorable main theme going though. It is one you remember after having seen the movie, and it just sticks with you for some time. It's honestly the only score I can remember from the Marvel movies right now.

It have to be said, that I'm not good at remembering anything though. I were shocked to see Thanos in the start of The Avengers yesterday lol.
 
The Avengers theme is the best theme in the MCU in my opinion. I was happy to hear it return in Ultron - the overall score did seem a bit of a mishmash though. I suppose it's expected with two composers working on different tracks.

Re-watching The Incredible Hulk; I still hate how they've completing erased Betty Ross from Banner's life. Apparently, in favor of Natasha as the previews lead us to believe.

Ultron was never going to look like that in the final product. Just like Thanos in Avengers looks nothing like his finalized version in GoTG, it was a CG teaser made years before the movie even began principal shooting.

The Ultron Drones come very close to what the original Ultron looks like though, and they behave similarly. It's a fair tradeoff I believe in order to have that more human Ultron.

Well, specifically, he's done directing. I'm not going to put it passed him to do what Jon Favreau ended up doing in most of the post-IM2 movies including Avengers, which is stay on board as an executive producer. Presumably he's still going to have some input on the direction the films will be headed, but mostly in the terms of logistics I imagine.

Even over two films, there are way too many characters to have appead in Infinity War.

You have all the existing Earth based characters reasonably showing up, giving you (end of Age of ultron spoilers)
Iron Man, War Machine, The Vision, Captain America, Falcon, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.That's 9 people already. Nick Fury willl also show up in some capacity to be sure.

Then we can probably reasonably guess that the Guardians of the galaxy will have some part in infinity war too, that's another 5 tentative people. And then we have from the upcoming films Ant Man, Spiderman who are also likely to take some part in infinity war. Then by part 2, you also have Captain Marvel and Black Panther to be added.

I just can't see any room for people who aren't already on the avengers team or at least headlining a movie officially in anything beyond cameos. There's just no way to write it in to a sub 3 hour pair of films.
 
I saw the movie this evening. It's fun but I thought it was kind of a mess in places. I'd put it mid-tier in terms of MCU quality, sort of Thor level.

Ultron was a pretty disappointing villain IMO.

He has no input, outside of maybe some informal "good idea, now how about this" meetings. His contract with Marvel expires this year.

And Favreau's EP title is a do-nothing credit.

uh, which part? :lol

1. Whedon's contract with Marvel runs to 2015, so it expires this year.
2. He was approached to write Infinity War but turned it down.
3. He's mentioned on this press tour, in one of the hundreds of same-y interviews, that he can't imagine not still meeting with Marvel, but in more of a pitch session over lunch thing, which sounds like a far cry from creative consultant and ghost co-writer.
(Personally, I don't think it even makes sense for Whedon to be in that role anyway if the Russos and their screenwriting pair are handling Civil War and Infinity War; if anyone is shaping the overall direction of Phase 3, it'd be them)

And I could be wrong, but the only thing I ever saw of Favreau having a hand in The Avengers is when he wrote a tweet about the first day of filming starting.
