Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

The only time I got disconnected is when my internet connection suddenly timed out for a brief moment (ISPs here suck so bad). Highly satisfied with the online results.

Gonna try SP mode in the mean time.

Sigh, when you see a really high skilled level 18-20 player in the lobby and you just know for a fact that they will randomly be put on the opposite team and utterly destroy you.

The matchmaking is constantly putting me on low level teams against players level 16+ and it's really damn frustrating.

I think what has me hesitating is that it feels like you spend a lot of time just shooting at the ground and walls.

It just looks like it lacks strategy or depth.

Just went and got the game and the boy and girl amiibos. They didn't have the 3 pack sadly so I didn't get the squid amiibo but I'm happy enough. Super excited right now.

Love beating the other team when one of our guys drops out.

The mall is a pretty cool stage. Should be good for snipers once they learn how to play...

if this were true then they would just pour tons of money into marketing every game, if it always works for any game.

Just take a look at last years big AAA games and you will notice that a lot of them started their (presidential) campaign like 6 months before launch just like Splatoon. You can't do that without a lot money (tv ads, posters in train stattion/subway, etc).

Like someone said earlier, Nintendo doesn't usually go all out for marketting but it changed for Splatoon.

Yay I'm in!
45€ for the tee+squid LE delivered to my house on day1, not bad!
Also got my girl/boy amiibos :)

You don't have to always shoot at people for a game to have depth. The game is definitely multidimensional. With randoms, yeah you kinda do your own thing, but once we can get real teams together the game will have just as much depth or more than other shooters due to inherent depth of the mechanics and systems.

How the fuck are you people not being plagued with connection issues. This can't be just me.

I'm not at all. Do you have your router optimized for Nintendo systems? If not, call Nintendo and they can walk you through it based on your router. This game is silky smooth

I originally wasn't gonna pick this game up, but due to the ongoing fiasco surrounding the last gen versions of MK X (which is currently the only way I'd be able to experience the game since I don't have PS4/X1 or a PC that comes close to meeting minimum specs) and all the buzz I've been hearing about this game I decided to switch my MK X pre-order over to this game. Also while I was picking up the game I got this free Splatoon hat (pictured below) and decided to buy my very first Amiibo.

Stop. Halt. Lemme drop some knowledge on ya, holmes.

Consider this: how many other third person shooters let you:

a) stealth whenever you feel like it, however, leave you constrained within an easily visible colour medium so that while you are completely undetectable in normal play, your potential hiding spots are known?
b) traverse walls and obstacles in said stealth mode at a higher speed?
c) depend not on kills but coverage for both power-ups and overall scoring?

Can you bring these elements together in your mind and see what kinda gameplay this might lead to? Intense mindgames? Outflanking and outmaneuvering enemies? The game not entirely being about running into enemies, but also avoiding them, or covertly tailing them to ambush on a whim?

It's deep, man. Ocean depths.

Quick question: does the Splatoon Wii U system come with the disc, or is it installed on the HHD?

If it's on the HDD, and I want to do a system transfer from my old system, does that overwrite the pre-installed game on the HDD?

game is so much fun and the character designs are all amazing so far

my gamestop had a bunch of amiibos for the game but I already ordered a girl Inkling so I'm just waiting for that

Have you watched a proper match?

The movement abilities combined with the ultimate objective (depending on the mode) provide enough depth and room for strategy. Every weapon type has its own gameplay styles attached basically. You can even find multiple playstyles per weapon. Then there's the shared playstyle variety thanks to the movement abilities. Do you squid-swim a lot? Do you hide in your ink a lot? Do you lure players into traps? Do you hang back and a avoid others a lot to paint the back half of the map? Plus all the sub-weapon strategies.

You should really watch some matches.

How do I turn off motion controls? I can't find the option and I currently can't get into the online mode :(

It's under the options tab on the Gamepad screen.

NA or EU? The NA bundle comes with a download code, the EU bundle with a disc. A system transfer WILL format the target Wii U.

If anyone is still looking for the 3 packs, I'd suggest Best Buy. Stopped at two of them when I was out and about this morning and both had plenty of them. All the Targets I went to were out. YMMV obviously

How the fuck are you people not being plagued with connection issues. This can't be just me.

I also am. Unplayable for me. If I actually get into a match it will drop connection with in a minute or so. Today I finished 2 matches out of a number I lost count of.

Prior to today, when playing yesterday and Wednesday the online was ALMOST PERFECT. NO lag, One disconnect, almost instant lobby queues. but today, when it's available to everyone I can't play.

Seeing as it's peer to peer I can only assume that some people have their routers setup in such a way to not let mine talk to the host whereas Japanese players have theirs setup differently? Because the only thing different about today than yesterday (apart from the date) is that this title is now offically out and not just to press and those who got their games shipped early.

3 more hours until I can get home and play!
Added my name to the list, it's my GAF username too.
Be advised, if you see me online it's a 1/3 chance it'll actually be me. 2/3 of the matches it'll be my kids!

I just got my pre-order from EB Games (GameStop), and what the guy working there told me rubbed me the wrong way. I know the guy - as a customer, not a friend - for a couple of years now, I believe he's the manager of that location and he struck me as a cool guy, not pushy or a fanboy. He's pretty open about how the store runs too.

Anyways, I pick up the game near opening, and when checking out he asks: "Do you have a Pro Controller?", I say "Ya...", than he replies "Good. Just making sure, 'cause it's the best way to play [Splatoon]".

I didn't say anything. I had to hold back correcting him. I do know that he was wrong about the game supporting the pro controller outside of local multiplayer, but I wanted to correct him because I could imagine him telling that to someone, the customer finding out he was wrong after buying and playing it, and than complaining to him, and indirectly hating the game. I wanted to be a nice guy, but I was afraid of having a real-life discussion (read:argument) about Gyro vs. Dual Analog, which i'm on the side of Gyro, and I did not want to have that argument.

The game's cool at least...

What has got me so far is how good the single player is, and how well the character movement and mechanics work for a single player action/platformer/shooter. It's incredibly polished and clever for the game's short development cycle.

I'm already not looking forward to it ending, and would totally support Nintendo releasing deeper levels of the adventure underground to go down into. Its modular design practically invites expansion.

This game is unbelievable. I can't stop playing.

Managed to do the first two levels of the single player before duties dragged me away.

I like the way the scrolls are hidden, forcing you to use your abilites. Good stuff!

Oh come the fuck on. An entire team of level 7-8 versus an entire team of 16-18? fuck this random matchmaking

Ive had a few level 1-3's vs. a team of 7+. Im level 5 almost, and Ive had 25% of my games end up with my team pinned at our spawn. Some historically bad teams already, and thats saying something coming from me, who often plays with pubs on BF4 and CODAW pretty regularly.

All that said, game is amazing fun, and Ill be playing again later!

The launch pads in single player remind me of the launch stars in Mario Galaxy. In fact, the whole thing kinda makes me think Mario Galaxy with a gun.

Whoa matchmaking needs some work. Got teamed up with lv3, lv5 and lv6, I'm lv4. Everyone on the other team was lv16+. Needless to say they had about 90% coverage.

I doesn't matter really, as a lowly level 1 I stomped enemy teams of 10 and above. You should try the single player, it unlocks some nifty stuff

Can't wait to get my system back from my sister who has been borrowing it for the past year.

This games looks and sounds really fun. Only time I've been tempted to purchase any amiibos.

Apologies as I am sure this has been addressed, but I just got home from vacation and do not have the mental capacity to read through 58 pages, so a quick simple question...

Is there no way to make the Wii U Pro Controller the default controller? Is it a matter of it can only be used as a secondary controller and not the primary one? I found the setting to pair the controllers to a player, but that does not seem to override the Game Pad being the main primary controller.

TIA
