How do you attack when you're a Kraken? I keep trying to push the trigger but nothing happens...is it one of the face buttons?

EDIT: Nvm, it was a face button.....smh.

Game is like crack. Nintendo kind of dropped the ball with the lobby weirdness but they completely nailed things in terms of the time between matches. It's soooo easy to get sucked in when you're only waiting 30s - one minute before getting back into the action, unlike so many other MP games.
This. Combined with the quick length of a battle, it leads to a "ok one more" addiction.

So I caved and bought it today. Not 100% happy with my purchase, but not hating it either.

Love the art style, the world, the weapons, yadda yadda.

What's to hate? I think the controls are rabid dog shit. I tried with motion, without motion, up and down on sensitivity, and yeah...worst controls in a shooter ever. Anyone defending this is high. :/ I have 1/10th of my precision from say a Call of Duty or Halo compared to here. Thank goodness this game doesn't have headshots mattering (does it?) because there's no way in hell you'll pop a dome intentionally.

It's no wonder you'll see rollers in droves... it's the only weapon that DOESN'T rely on the crap aiming controls in the game. Hold right trigger and turn off brain to win. I use the roller myself. Why not?

First 5-6 games. All losses. Matched up against people WAY higher level than myself. Almost every game had 2-3 rollers on the opposite team. At the end when you check the score screen it's the rollers sitting on top by a land slide.

Those games I was barely reaching even on K/D if I ran into the enemy team, and would have a hard time lending a hand to cover paint on the map too.

The moment I got the roller? First or second place, triple kills, yadda yadda. It's not even a fun weapon, but it's by far the most effective one the game has given me.

Oddly the game crashes my wi-fi connection somehow? Happened twice. Makes my Wii U say it can't connect to my router so I have to reset the console to enable it again.

Questions:

1) What's the point of the "single player" portion? Do I unlock things tied to MP for completing it? Just a fun distraction ?

2) How do I unlock my Amiibo stuff? I have him bought, but I don't know when/where I can touch it to the pad to get the gear from it.

3) I can only play turf wars, and I can't touch ranked either. What level does the second game type open and when does ranked become available?

I was worried that the single player mode might kinda feel like an afterthought in this game, but I'm actually really enjoying it. I like how every level so far has something unique about it.

Yo, these teammates though? How you are getting less than 300 points consistently every match?

Where's ranking mode?
Ranking mode comes out in August, thats when this game goes up another notch because youl be able to set teams and actually use strategy.
Edit think Ive got ranking mode confused with something else.

1: If you collect certain Sunken Scrolls, weapons will be made available to you. They differ slightly from weapons the shop will normally offer - like a different special or side weapon.

2: Go to the giant Amiibo box on the hub world. You need to play single-player to unlock the amiibo challenges to earn gear since the levels are based on the single-player.

3: Ranked open when enough players reach level 10.

LOL Git Gud.

Seriously though, +2 sensitivity on the sticks is literally COD controls. But there's no aim assist in this game.

1.) You can find hidden blue prints which give you alternate loadouts in single player
2.) Just press it to the lower left hand corner of the game pad and you're ready to go. It's a 1 time unlock type thing.
3.) Ranked is closed for everyone. When enough people hit level 10, it will unlock. So probably by sunday at this rate, it doesn't take long to get to 10.

I can't believe how many people don't seem to prioritize ground coverage over enemy splats. I spent 2 hours in multiplayer today and, aside from maybe one or two matches, I was the only person with 1000p+ points at the end.

Also, so many of my teammates wanted to follow me around wherever I went. Frustrating when the enemy team is getting free reign over the other 75% of the map.

It's all good though, I had a blast the whole time. Learning some of the maps via Global Testfire helped my performance a lot today. At some point I should dive into single player...

1) You unlock weapons that you can use in multiplayer. But I think the point is the same as any game's single player mode: to play it and enjoy it.

2) There's a machine in Inkopolis that looks like an amiibo package. Go to that.

3) Ranked becomes available when you reach level 10, but enough people have to reach level 10 first for it to unlock for anyone.

I don't like to say git gud but his post deserves it.

I'll try +2 sensitivity then to see if it improves. Maybe the issue is that the starting weapon is total gutter trash too. Either way I can rock the roller to "be gewd" at this I guess. :/

Hmm conflicting answer to #2? Above people are saying I have to do SP first, but you're saying just touch it to the pad at anytime when the game is running? I tried that, but nothing happened.

Splattershot Jr. is in contention for one of the best weapons/load outs in the game. Bubble is so useful for breaking through enemy lines.

Game makes me wanna buy a Wii U

I bought my Wii U for this and Smash about a week and a half ago.

Zero regrets. It's quite the unique console experience more so than the Wii was IMO.

Plenty of great first party games on this. Bayo 2, Smash, Mario games, Kirby, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Splatoon, etc etc.

Get it for 200 bucks refurbished off the Nintendo store.

man, there are a lot less rollers. gonna have to try it out, every team needs one.

Yeah, seems like there's a kind of backlash since the demo where a lot of people were saying it was OP. I spend/ waste a lot of time filing in ground near my spawn a lot where a roller could run through in a couple seconds and take care of it.

Game makes me wanna buy a Wii U

Do it. Pikmin 3 and Donkey Kong are classics, Bayo 2 is awesome, Mario Kart is the best of the series, there's some fun smaller games like Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker, ZombiiU, Wonderful 101... awesome system.

I love this game. Everything about it is so damn charming and infectious. Nintendo carved an identity for this IP that has become immediately recognizable. Hoping this catches on big time.

A few quick thoughts from a few hours of play (I think I'm Level 7?):

1) I'm curious to see how Ranked matches play out. My instinct is to say there would be room for more variation here: chances to swap weapons, voting on levels, etc. This would leave the non-ranked lobby as the free-for-all, one-more-game space it currently is, which I've had a lot of fun with.

2) I don't entirely understand why walls don't count (I haven't been reading all the previews), but I did eventually figure that out when I remembered there was an onscreen counter collecting points and it wasn't going up when I painted walls. It made my discover that I could paint the beams in the Warehouse base pretty useless.

3) Love that there's a detail in the overworld that doesn't appear on the main menu, but opens up a new feature. It's not a huge place to explore, but it was a nice detail to "uncover" by searching throughout it. Lovely little detail.

4) You can really see the Animal Crossing lineage a bit in the single player dialogue.

I forgot to ask---how do you guys feel about 3 minute time length?

I feel it goes by WAY too fast. I feel the matches should be 5-6 minutes to give the game more back and forth...

It'll probably be awhile before I get a chance to play this, but I bought the boy squid amiibo today instead of waiting until it went out of stock.

I wish I did one of the testfire demos though.

I keep checking this thread, waiting for the weekend to end so I can play it :( It's nice to read such positive impressions though

I think 3 is perfect because it always comes down to the lqast 30 seconds or so anyway.

Ehh, I felt teh same way about the controls at first but after playing it for a while today I think it's just fine.
