Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I normally hate both shooters and on-line games. But I have been playing this for the last 4 hours and I realize that I was just waiting for the right one to come along. This is just pure fun.

Didn't think I'd be buying this but I was at the video store and they happened to have a copy. I rented it and wow, fun fun fun. Totally digging this. Are there really only two maps, or do they switch out each day? Or are more coming via updates?

I do like the team mechanic, but I wish the stats kept track of... well, anything. Unless I'm missing it. I'd love to know my kills vs killed ratio, average turf cover, etc.

Firstly, I'm glad that you're enjoying it! So, there are more than 2 maps, in fact, there are 5 maps available at the moment. They get switched out every 4 hours. It seems like it would be something you'd grow tired of, but the matches play so differently, you barely notice, at least for now. They are bringing out more maps, weapons and modes! According to a recent Nintendo Direct, they should start rolling that stuff out on a bi-weekly basis. In August we have our first big update.

I'm not sure how long you have the game, or if you plan on buying it, but it'd be worth trying to get to Level 10 in multiplayer, because that will lead to the eventual unlock of Ranked Battles and a new mode to play.

In Turf Wars there aren't any stats to look at, which is a bit of a bummer. I like looking at that stuff, too.

How good does the gyro aiming work? Is anyone using it instead of stick control?

Gyros are way better than using the stick.

I know that's hard to believe for some people, but its the truth. The amount of accuracy you have when using the motion controls is just way too damn good.

It just takes a bit of time to get used to. You don't have to even move the gamepad much at all.

You're still using the stick to move the camera from left to right most of the time.

The fact that the ink dictates where you can and cannot go is what elevates this from good to great.

This is the most fun I've had playing a single player shooter

Agree with you all!

Bought this yeterday and just cracked it open, tremendous so far. The refreshing color in the game is alot like Sunset Overdrive on Xbox One.

Quick question? Anyone know how I can have audio of the game playing thru my headphones via the gamepad and still have the action on the TV screen? I am kinda playing late and want to turn the audio up.

Just connect headphones to the gamepad and it should work I think.

Yep. When you plug headphones in, the sound that would be on the TV comes through the gamepad headphones as well.

I'm also getting on for a bit. I'm a little unclear on how to meet up with Gaffers; is it just the doc, or is there some kind of lobby? The OP made it seem like all the coordination was done in-thread, but the discussion made it sound like something's being used in-game? I AM BAD AT WII-U MULTIPLAYER HELP

We're going to be able to join our friends in ranked matches as well right? It would be horrible if they gave us that option for regular matches...

You will almost certainly be able to play with friends in ranked. I know people say "lol nintendo and multiplayer" but given how closely this game's development staff have been looking at things like TF2 I can't imagine they'd mess something like that up.

What's your nnid? We just join friends matches and the lobby eventually is all gaf

Blue get on. The king of the tower map is on

The rotation will probably add another map (group of 3 maps every 4 hours) when we get more.

Thanks guys!

I didn't plan on buying it before, as I was never terribly into shooters. Either I generally lack discipline or accuracy, or maybe I just try them out after people have played them for months and get schooled to oblivion.

With this I've been #1 & #2 on my team quite a few times, and I actually really like concept of covering turf being the primary objective. Of course, shooting people accurately helps... I like that it's a group effort but everything is so visually displayed that it's easy to instinctively know the best way to help (as opposed to complicated strategies via in-game chat).

And maybe it's just because everyone out there's as unskilled as me since it's new, but it feels like even a newbie will be able to contribute & have fun in this game down the line.

Switched on Max's stream, he seems to have gotten into it a bit more now. Or maybe I only came in at a good time, lol. Edit: Hah, as I say that, he switches to Smash.

The game is rather unconventional from your standard shooter, so a lot of muscle memory from shooters (my Halo experience, for instance) only goes so far. The techniques and depth of the movement capabilities as well as simple weapon/perk variations on it, really shake up what people are used to and expecting.

Guys.

Am I simply on a new game high or is this one of the best playing and most addictive games Nintendo has made....ever?
Not so much a new game high, as its a new type of gameplay high. This is how I felt when I got my hands on The Wonderful101. We get fed annual and perennial series constantly as our main course, Mario GTA CoD Gran Turismo, and then all the other games are ala carts of the different gameplay systems broken down in bite size form with a new coat of paint. So it's really refreshing when you get that first taste of a new gameplay type, Assassin's Creed comes to mind.

Splatoon has been running in my mind constantly, especially with all the ways to improve just myself in a game. Usually the shooter checklist is, set controls, check sensitivity, learn the maps, dominate. Now, I have to actually worry about spacing and moving outside of a half circle. What's the optimum movement to maximize the spray pattern on my .96gal(slightly arched)? Is it better to rush or shore up home first, especially if you've been on the end of a .1% loss?

I really hope they give us a ton of options for private matches, as I really see a lot of new and different game types coming out of this that could never have happened before.

Search: final boss

All that praise! Glad to see so many people enjoying it, it's so good.

Also, for anyone with all the sunken scrolls, flip through all the scrolls from the first one while staring at the bottom right corner of the page for a silly little detail that made me laugh.

Rgot my copy today with boy squid amiibo, dont usually buy amiibos but figured why not. Looking forward to getting into it tonight.

I've been trying to get a hold of some Pilot Goggles, but I just found out what their primary ability is (bomb range up) and I think it's worthless for the weapons I've been favoring, which use Seekers and Splash Wall. I'm using a Gas Mask at the moment which has Tenacity, which isn't spectacular but at least it's not a wasted slot.

Setting a sprinkler on the moving platform at the top in Saltspray Rig is so hilarious because people don't tend to look up

As soon as the Sprinkler became a thing, that was my go-to theory mode 101 tactic on that stage. Same for putting one at the apex of Blackbelly Skatepark's middle tower.

Finally in area 3 of the single player and really liking that getting to the actual stages themselves takes a nice bit of challenge. There is one jump that I could see frustrating some people if they aren't good after jumping in general though. Unless there is another path I'm not seeing.

I do wish the maps rotated themselves out a LOT faster. Four hours is way to long. It should be cut down by half. Right now when I get tired of the maps I'll just load up the single player or just turn the game off. Once I'm done with the single player I'm not sure what I'll be doing other then just getting out of the game.. The number of the maps aren't the problem right now but how long you stay on one set and I figured that would be a problem.

Swag > Practicality.

At least if you lose, you'll look good.

Gonna make a second morning coffee and then I'll look if my dealer found the headphones I wanted him to get.

Let's see if you can trust a strange person alone in a side alley >>
