Unless Nintendo suddenly became the lord dalai lama guru of server / client interactions, 5000 miles difference will mean a lot of latency whether you notice it or not.

Fuck I don't even play West Coast servers in shooters because that delay is unbearable.

Compound this by the fact that most people are probably playing on Wifi.

Got 3 disconections (I guess due japanese players) but overall great fun and amazing matches... except for a douche that got 0pt every single match. Seriously, What's up with those guys that do nothing in the game?

I literally haven't noticed any issues playing with Japenese players. European here.

I would say I'm quite sensitive to lag and delays but I honestly haven't noticed anything. The only thing I can think of is sometimes when two rollers collide both die a little too far apart - that's it. It's not really a twitch game anyway, your main focus is the floor.

I've played with tons of Japanese players during daytime and night time and had almost no bad connections or lag with any of them. Heck I had several rooms where I was the only American and had no lag whatsoever. East Coast USA btw. Are ya'll sure it's not your connections?

with the low install base it would be stupid to region lock multiplayer or wait even longer to match make.

i play with japanese players all the time and never noticed lag to hinder my enjoyment.

Never noticed that myself.

It's definitely a problem...the netcode is decent enough but the matchmaking algorithm or lack thereof is pretty bad. It should prioritize best connections first. Honestly, most games though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't notice it if I used anything but a charger or a blaster (and I've used 18 levels worth of charger).

I was unable to join the first test fire because of connection errors.
The problem was my router. It puts my wiiU (and ps4) into a strict NAT type 3 mode. Which I think means that ports are closed. You have to either port forward on your router or go into your router settings and put the wiiU into the DMZ (demilitarised zone).

My previous router was fine with the 3ds, wiiU etc but unfortunately it broke and now I have this strict little bastard router that I have to mess around with occasionally, which involves a lot of googling.

I'm also having issues with this. Haven't been able to play a single online game. What ports should I forward to?

After doing single-player and then doing the Amiibo challenges to unlock the schoolgirl outfit, I started some MP. Holy cow is this game addicting.

I'm really enjoying going behind enemy lines with my roller and then rolling them over from behind.

Additionally, thanks for all of the adds! I will be joining you all soon.

In a game with walls and ledges for cover everywhere. You sure it was the E-liter? The extra range is pitiful and takes an extra 33% amount of time to charge. And at 3/4th charge only does exactly 100 damage so if you got less than that you have to wait another long charge if you miss. I have to say, maybe people you were playing with were just not very good?

Like I said it may very well just have a high skill cap to use (and perhaps I need to make use of the balloons better). But even then it still possibly isn't that great compared to the other chargers. This isn't Battlefield where the maps are huge enough to need this long range especially at the cost of charge time. The opposite of what I said would actually be better: increase the ink usage but let it charge faster.
There are plenty of large range maps, particularly warehouse and arowana.

And yes, it was the e liter. And it was me he was killing, not my teammates. He found a very good position in arowana that was immensely difficult to approach.

Made it to level 10. Splattershot Jr. is OP for getting points. Kind of sad it's the starter weapon.

Other than that minor gripe I've had a ton of fun with this. Definitely scratches a simpler/fun style itch for a shooter that HOTS does for me with moba. My wife even enjoys watching it. So good.

Wait a minute, there are weapons you can only unlock via single player???

...I have wasted a lot of time by only going online so far. Time to buckle down.

Damn maximilian hates this game. The group in stream now are just taking a shit Nintendo and this game.
Yeah, but I really didn't see they learning the mechanics. Himself being of a fighter background should've put a real effort into that. I got annoyed and left.

Love it, love it, love it. Got the final copy from my local Walmart, and now am off to dream about bright colors and squidnanigans.

I do have a couple of questions:

1. Is there a way in-game to see the countdown timer for the next map switch? I looked and couldn't find it.

2. I know walls don't count for turf coverage... but what about slopes? Arowana Mall has a lot of sloped surface, and some of them straddle the line between ground and wall. I'm not sure what counts and what doesn't.

He's talking shit about the ink curtain too, that thing is godlike.

Ye i love the curtain against rollers.

Even chat is annoyed with him. They are saying the game looks good but just switch the game so they don't have to hear his bitching.

He has no clue about the mechanics at all or strategy.

even giantwaffle and lirik loves the game and sees the strategy in it.

I wasn't expecting the single player to be this good. It's like a 3D Mario game. Just throwing new ideas and environments at you constantly.

Anyone have any cool highlight videos to share? I really wish this had a replay system or something similar. Hopefully they're thinking about adding one in.

I'm really starting to get a hold of my own strategy and plans-of-action for each of these maps. I feel bad for those who decided to wait until August, once all of the content was available, because they're really going to have a tough time catching up. The game may seem simple, but it's quite deceptive.

Also, I'm pretty happy that there isn't any voice chat. If there were, I'd be inclined to use it, but I'd probably just end up cursing at the roller that just steam rolled me 3 times in a row. It's for the best...

Okay, I only played 5 hours so far but it's 3 AM here and I got stuff to do tomorrow so I'll take a break. Finished World 2 of the Single Player - pretty amazing stuff. Love the boss cutscenes, even if the bosses themselves are fairly easy and the mechanics are really neat.

Kelp Dome confused me at first but once I nailed its symmetrical design it was neat going around in a circular manner - gonna love it when it gets to Multiplayer. All the other 'gimmicks' were pretty neat as well - and I LOVE the environments of Octo Valley.

Got to Level 6 in MP but stopped after a bad losing streak. Really need to get better with the Charger and 52.gal (kept getting 500~700), but was consistently getting ~1000/1300 with the Splattershots and Rollers. I really think 4 hours/2 maps is too little as well - I was playing 5 warehouses then 5 malls then 5 warehouses and so on. All the matches felt sweet and pretty different, though.

Need to remember to use the sub-weapons and to actually aim the Killer Wail. Warehouse is fun to get to the pack and surprise people with a roller, or just Splatter in general, but I love to traverse the Mall.

All in all, can't wait to wake up and play more.

almost there

will do my part tomorrow :p

Didn't think I'd be buying this but I was at the video store and they happened to have a copy. I rented it and wow, fun fun fun. Totally digging this. Are there really only two maps, or do they switch out each day? Or are more coming via updates?

I do like the team mechanic, but I wish the stats kept track of... well, anything. Unless I'm missing it. I'd love to know my kills vs killed ratio, average turf cover, etc.

2. I know walls don't count for turf coverage... but what about slopes? Arowana Mall has a lot of sloped surface, and some of them straddle the line between ground and wall. I'm not sure what counts and what doesn't.

The main screen shows how many points you have at the moment. You should be able to look to see if your score is raising if you're unsure about a surface.

So my first impressions of the game are good. I was on the fence on getting the game, but hearing all the good impressions made me get it. I played for only 1 hour so keep that in mind.

I'll start by saying the tutorial is fucking horrible. Why not let the player choose from the start if he/she want to use gyro controls? Maybe they let you and I missed it, I don't know, just don't force them. When I finally set the gyro controls off (thank god) I decided to start playing online. Apparently you can only play 2 maps at a time and they rotate them. Is not as bad as it sounds, and I think is good since it forces you to learn the map, which is really important in this game. I waited 3 minutes for my first match to start, thankfully this only occurred once. For the first 4 matches I was getting used to the game. At the beginning it was a bit frustrating, specially because I was stuck with a shitty team. That said, when this game finally clicked, it was supper addicting and fun to play. I think the graphics are the weak aspect of the game. It just looks bland, even more than in videos. But the game has a lot of personality, and I really like the art direction.

That said I feel the $60 I paid feel a bit too much for this game, at least just judging it from the multiplayer content. The single player campaign might be engaging and long so it might be unfair to say the content is lacking, but a lot of people will buy it to play just the online portion like I did, and the content is just not there. That said, this game is just so fucking unique that I do recommend it. There is nothing like this game on the market.

Are there really only two maps, or do they switch out each day? Or are more coming via updates?.

Starts out with 5 maps - rotating every 4 hours between groups of two. Every other week (apparently) we'll be getting new maps, capping at 14 (or 15 but I think that was misinformation) total maps by August.

The rotation will probably add another map (group of 3 maps every 4 hours) when we get more.
