Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I just want a day, evening, and night cycle in multiplayer. The night stages in the campaign look great. Oh and some way for Nintendo to incorporate some of the campaign mechanics into multiplayer (sponges, ziplines, sqee-gs, turrets, etc). It would be so crazy.

Quoting myself from the Splatoon 3d Platformer thread. I really want these in Nintendo pls !

If you're backed up against the wall it can be hard to escape a kraken since you have to turn the camera around to swim up your ink trail which could be all the time the kraken needs to get you
Sure, but that's pretty situational. Having an invinciblity shield surrounding you while you can still shoot your weapon is over powered in every situation. Even if you have the entire other team surrounding you. I've seen one bubbler take out a whole team in Ranked because there is literally no way to defend yourself other then running away, which is the last thing you should be doing in KOTH.

Plus, you can at least dodge a Kraken and he doesn't kill you as soon as he touches you. They have to be able to jump into you to get the kill.
Agreed. I had to turn them off after a day of trying them out. I really worked hard to get used to them, but they didn't click with me. I'm curious, do the majority of people on here use them?

I kind of figured a lot of players would stick to analog. I'm kind of curious how many people actually use motion controls.
I really wish that there was a little gyro icon next to peoples usernames for the people that use gyro controls like Mario Kart has for people using the Wii Wheel, because I wonder how many people are using them online too.

I tried it for a day, before giving up. I found my game improved substantially switching to the analog sticks. But it could just be that, I don't have the best sense of balance/vision. I just found it so hard to get a hold of the camera movement with the motion controls. Felt like I either had a heavy weight attached to my neck, or I was drunk and swung wildly around because my muscles were really loosey goosey.
+2 sensitivity with motion off.

I was initially unimpressed by the motion controls, and in fact was unexcited about playing the game because both control options just didn't work for me. However, on my fourth or fifth day, the motion controls finally made sense. Now I think they're some of the best console shooter controls I've ever experienced.

The major change I made was to SLOW DOWN (when getting adjusted to them, now I'm blazing through the maps). Really focus on aiming in the general direction you want with the right stick while keeping your hands steady on the motion controls, and only after you're looking where you want, gently move the controller down and up to cover the map or to aim at an enemy. You don't want to learn by using the stick and motion controls at the same time like a regular dual analog game because it will fuck you up.

Once your mind separates the two functions it will click. And when it clicks, it will be glorious.

I'm usually a vocal champion of motion/pointer controls but the bizarro, nonsensical restriction of vertical analogue aiming in combination with motion controls feels absolutely terrible to me. Almost every other motion controlled aiming game I've played does a combination of analogue + motion and it works beautifully. Why this only half works is baffling.

It works fine for me but yeah, its weird they dont have the vertical axis as an option for aiming with the sticks when motion control is turned on, because options are always good for people with different preferences. But for me I didn't even notice the vertical axis was gone because using the right stick for broad horizontal strokes and motion controls for vertical/more precise movement works wonders. I find the way it is to still be way more precise than regular joy sticks, even if they strangely restrict options for other setups.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain the controls. I will absolutely give it another shot, keeping what you said in mind. The people that use them, really love them -- and I wanted to get good with them. But I really struggled with it.

+2 sensitivity with motion off.

I feel stupid, didn't even realize there was sensitivity options for camera. I'm going to give motion controls a shot again. But I'll try your options with the analog at some point (or adjust it to various settings, and see what works best). Can't believe I kept the sensitivity at the default.

I want to enjoy this game but the latency is ruining it for me. When I have a match where I don't get mutually killed by flying ink spurts coming from the spot where the player I just killed 5 seconds ago died, then the game is really fun, like a lot of fun. It's been happening to me a lot today but it's been annoying me for a while to be honest.
What? Are you kidding?

Well use dual stick then.

I hated at first. Forced myself to learn it for a couple hour and now it's completely second nature. Tried another console shooter and it felt wrong. It'll be hard to go back.

I use the motion controls at +4 sensitivity

I definitely understand the learning curve attached to them but the biggest praise I could give the controls would to be that I don't ever think about what I'm doing while I'm doing it, if that makes sense. it just feels so natural.

That's how I feel with dual sticks

What is your speedtest showing (from the wiiu browser). I've only rarely seen this issue happen. Generally I've felt like the latency in the game has been very little.

Is Ninja Squid a "main" ability only and can't be rolled as a sub ability?

Yeah, shirts only.

We should take a poll as to who uses motion controls or not.

I use motion controls at whatever the default sensitivity is. Sensitivity doesn't really matter as long as you learn to adapt to it.

Didn't somebody already make a thread like that? I use motion at 0. I tried higher, but it's too fast for me.

i've actually been thinking of turning my sensitivity up a notch, hopefully i'll remember to do that later

the motion part is perfect but i wanna be turning left and right a bit quicker

they're at 0.5 atm (can't remember if + or -)

I guess I'll just have to adjust the sensitivity and find the sweet spot. I was using default settings when I used motion controls. Might explain some of my issues.

I don't know how you crazy bastards are turning up your sensitivity. I had to turn it down from the default because if I just nudged my right stick the camera would swing half the screen.

The motion controls is exactly like the twin stick movement, but with aiming support. No big Gamepad movements.

This game has so much sass.

I played it at PAX AU. You're missing the point; precision isn't a problem. The motion itself is fine. But I like to play analogue + motion as broader sweeps with analogue tend to work far better, and the motion controls allow for quick precise accuracy. In most motion control games the way this works is that analogue aiming remains intact, but motion controls allow you to precisely manipulate the crosshair in combination with the former.

Splatoon has this, only for some reason on horizontal analogue input. Vertical analogue input is disabled forcing you to rely exclusively on motion. Obviously this can be learned and controls "fine", but for my taste is a bizarre setback that I've never seen before and makes no sense.

This doesn't matter though because it's the absence of an option. Motion controls are fine, but it still feels off to me to have horizontal control with stick that negates all input feedback the moment you start introducing a vertical angle. You lose nothing of what's already there by combining it with vertical analogue control.

My guess is that they want vertical aiming to "snap" back. Horizontal control is for two things, aiming and orientation for movement. Vertical control is for only one thing: aiming. When you turn to the side using the stick you probably want to stay that way, to keep walking in that direction. If you used the stick to look up, though, you'd effectively "reset" the neutral position for the tilt controls. You'd have to either use the stick to tilt back down, or hit the Y button to reorient. By making it tilt-only, the view snaps back naturally as you rest the gamepad back down.

+2 feels like call of duty and the transformers games to me which is what I played for years

I have 4 people in my family playing, and we all quickly felt the same as you. It was a weird feeling to have vertical on gamepad gyro, and horizontal on the stick. 3 out of the 4 in my family didn't just dislike the gyro control scheme, they couldn't stand it and switched over as soon as they could.

I've been trying to use the gyro in single player, but it just doesn't feel natural. For MP I switch over to sticks.

So... what is it like?
I dunno but playing with 1.5K ping in general is amazing. This game's lag comp is broken.

This doesn't apply to the Japanese though, they don't lag nearly that much. In fact when playing each other they probably have sub-50 ping and often sub-30. Whereas Americans often have pure shit net that is incomprehensibly shitty (Used to have one of those connections myself :3)
