I took it to mean he was drawing attention to it since no one else noticed it

Yea it looked like he was drawing attention to it, since he can't really bend down.

I think he can see, he does a lot of stuff that only people with vision will be able to do.

It just means that the game came out a week ago and most might not have finished it.
Don't look for a deeper meaning here.

I wouldn't read too much into that.

Most people don't have the time to power through a 60 hour game in less than a week.

So the after credits conversation between Miller and ocelot implies that ocelot was the one that kills Miller before mgs1?

No, it was simply explaining why Miller breaks off from Big Boss and joins Solid Snake.

The end of the scene where quiet finds the necklace in the acidic gas, Kaz uses his crutch to feel around for the necklace on the floor like a blind man. Strange.

He's just poking it.

That scene actually makes it look like Kaz is wondering about Quiet's power. Look at the scene again, at the very end he looks like he's thinking "hmm, maybe I could get my arm and leg back if I had the parasite".

https://youtu.be/0JFdlgV6EEQ?t=1644

So maybe he does infect himself to get his limbs back. That could explain why he would logically have them when he's back at Foxhound.

Oh okay, I thought one of them said that they might have to kill each other some day. Thanks.

I've always wondered something.

Kojima has two twitter accounts one in English and one in Japanese and they are exact copies of each with same tweets and descriptions. Does he have a translator do this job or does he posts in English himself ?

It's MGS2 all over again.

It'll take years for the dust to settle before people recognize the masterpiece.
I really doubt it. MGS2's twist was hated for a while because it wasn't what people expected, but the story was well told and there was a meaning behind it so people came to love it.

People hate this twist because it's poorly told, and ultimately has very little meaning.

No it definitely implies Ocelot kills Miller. Ocelot says they will become enemies if he joins Cipher. Miller says he is fine with it and that he is ready for the new age but in the meantime him and Ocelot should coexist.

Ocelot does say "One of us will have to kill the other." I took that as an implication that Ocelot may have easily been the killer, and he was with Liquid at the time so very well may have been him ordered to do it.

Honestly, it's not so much the (unnecessary) twist as story threads generally falling apart or being poorly executed that has soured me on the narrative side.

I dunno, I felt satisfied with the information and truth bombs with the tapes, some fantastic shit to be found there. Skullface was an underwhelming villain with a plan far exceeding his own character. The whole ethnic cleansing bit with dominating languages is well done and as a guy from the Middle East it made me think of languages in a way I never thought of, for instance English here is valued more than Arabic. I also liked how it was mixed with a horror take on it that reminded me of my favorite horror movie, The Thing. Mission 43 is still stuck with me as well as the cutscene that followed "You're all diamonds", that must have been the darkest shit I have seen in vidya games in quite a while. That's my favorite thing about the plot and I felt the child soldiers were done well, Quiet's ending was good as well, a user here mentioned how the snake biting VS foreshadows him getting killed by SS which I never thought of but looking at it again is pretty good.

About the ending, I liked the meta message since it felt like Kojima was thanking the fans and saying goodbye. Don't care for the body double twist because it's MGS I had a feeling the ending was going to be something crazy. Infact, I thought it was going to be involving time travel lmao because of the wormhole fulton we saw in the MB gameplay demonstration, that's how crazy I think MGS is. I love the shot with Ocelot lighting a cigar for BB, with the sun rising and the bike, seeing my name in the passport(as well as behind the picture) and that final shot of BB before riding off.

Overall, there are things I loved and liked about the story but then there are things I disliked about it like Eli's conclusion not being complete, Skullface being underwhelming, silent Snake being too silent, no Man on Fire boss fight or a satisfying conclusion(it's all escaping from him), MB being empty for the most part & that's about it. Gameplay is fucking amazing through and through though.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the repeated missions thing is terrible as well.

Another thing I liked, after the ashes cutscene, there's an actual diamond in the bottom of the diamond dogs logo on your clothing. Nice touch.

Yup, that was fantastic.

Doesn't Liquid out right say he kills Miller in MGS1?

Or am I misremembering things.

It makes more poetic sense for it to be Ocelot after this game as they both were close colleagues.

Before V came out, the obvious assumption was Liquid due to his impersonation in MGS1 and how the hit was pulled off, as one would assume Ocelot would shoot his opponent to death rather than use poison gas.

Didn't even think about that but yeah it wouldn't be a stretch that Oceleot went and killed miller. Told Liquid he did it, and then Liquid just played the role from shadow moses to mess with snake.

Where the hell was Gray Fox Kojima?

Kojima!

Yeah I was sad that there wasn't more stuff about MG1, MG2, and MGS1. I expected the game to be about Boss becoming evil, along with his recruiting of a lot of the people who are important in the series later on. Since every major player was around and doing stuff in the 80s.

Went back to the game for the first time since finishing it tonight.

As I suspected, I think I'm done with the game for now. I still enjoy the hell out of the core gameplay loop. I just have absolutely zero motivation to continue any Mother Base development or Side Ops content. It's disappointing that that's a consequence of the narrative choices rather than the gameplay running out of steam. I don't feel like I want to stop yet, but lack a motivation to continue. Like I have unfinished business with the game despite finishing the story and playing it for 64 hours.

When does MGO launch? Right now that sounds like the perfect solution.

Considering how confusing it's going to be with the entire situation of "Big Boss" finding Naomi in the late 1980's and which Big Boss they actually were with, I'm guessing Kojima decided that having Gray Fox be with Venom would be a bridge too far or something.

or he forgot.

or the more probabible solution is this game was clearly never about a bridge between PW and MG and the foxhound unit and we all got our hopes up for nothing :(

MGO launches in about a month.

Quite the wait, but there's reason to believe there'll be a beta beforehand.

I'm leaning towards Liquid ordering Ocelot to kill Miller if anything. Ocelot was all "eh sure why not, might as well".

Miller was retired and no real threat to Ocelot anymore(if he was going to kill him he should've done it during the 90s when he was training Solid) Killing him served to mostly benefit Liquid's plan which Ocelot never really cared about.

I think Naomi and Frank were found by the real Big Boss. After all, Naomi says he brought them to America, which would make sense if Big Boss returned there to command FOXHOUND. I believe the phantom never went back to America, but stayed in Africa to handle the Outer Heaven fortress.

NOW, my fear is... Which Big Boss actually rescued Sniper Wolf...? For the love of God, I hope it was the real one...

They both are the real Big Boss after a certain point, so it doesn't matter.

As I said in another thread, this game had the perfect setup to find an orphaned girl in Afghanistan that interacts with Quiet and DD. It can't be more cheesy than having adorable cutscenes with the sniper and the wolf buddy that turn tge girl into the direction of her future.

MGSV-2
Real Big Boss sends young Sniper Wolf on a mission to kill Quiet...

No. Only one of them is the real Big Boss, which is the man we met in MG2:SS and the ending of MGS4. The other is "the phantom".

Exactly. This game is just one huge missing opportunity after another.

Sometimes a story can be confused as being poorly told when it actually has a wealth of critical value....

From what I can tell not a soul has even mentioned the heavy connections and implications MGSV makes to Post-colonial theory?

Because they're often so overbearing that they go from "ooh, interesting" to "yeah we get it."

Then tell us what those connections are. I'd really love to be proven wrong, honestly.

Well the major theme of the game is cultural appropriation and how people, who have lost their culture, feel.

However the story is told nowhere near to the quality of MGS2. The backhalf is a meandering mess.

The phantom who you play MGSV as. I'm getting pretty attached to Venom's experiences myself considering the buddy system. I'd be fine with him being the one who saved Sniper Wolf.

Yes, see I've also finished the game.

However, Big Boss said that in the end it doesn't matter, the two built up the legend together, so they are both Big Boss. The phantom has the same memories and acts exactly the same as Big Boss and turns out to be the main villain of Metal Gear 1 anyways. So why does it really matter which Big Boss does what in the end?

To me that would feel like a kick in the balls, to be honest. I don't want the phantom to interfere any further with the canon. It's bad enough that we are fighting a fake at the end of the original game, I would like to stop it there.

Because one of them is the real Big Boss, the man who defeated The Boss, earned the title from the US president and founded Outer Heaven. The other is a body double, a Mr. Nobody. And he certainly doesn't act like the real Big Boss. At all.
