Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

So if I were to preorder TKK legendary edition from PSN...would I be able to start the main game and the expansions..right away or have to wait till Tuesday?

It mentions you can play right away on the digital collectors edtion, but says nothing on the legendary edition.

Even with the legendary edition you can play immediately.

After another evening with destiny I'm back with more beginner questions:

-I did the devil's lair, I enjoyed it, is there any point in running it again in term of rewards?

-After killing the final boss the timer to end the mission started and when there was about 5 seconds left I noticed a loot box in a corner, couldn't get it in time! Is there always a 'hidden' box after a boss? Is there a way to know where to find them?

I won't have any time to play until Monday now, it'll be tough.

Thats a golden chest, there are 5 per planet and you can get each one only once with each character.

They are not tied to boss battles, just this one

Actually the regular vanguard playlists are gone as of TTK I believe. There's just Legacy and whatever they're calling the TTK Heroic Playlist, which is taking the place of a weekly heroic strike. You can also string together strikes on that playlist for loot bonuses.

I was curious about this so looked into and read this:

Strike playlists in Destiny will be divided up in new ways when The Taken King releases. The Vanguard Legacy playlist will feature all of the strikes from the launch of the game and the two DLC releases – The Dark Below and House of Wolves. Vanguard Ursa will consist of random Heroic Strikes that will award players Legendary Marks – the new currency replacing Vanguard and Crucible Marks – plus Legendary Engrams. Finally, Vanguard Marmoset will star The Taken King Strikes.

Matchmaking for these playlists will be based on player’s Light Level. As I covered here for Inquisitr, Light Levels are being separated from a character’s overall level and now are an indicator of power. So, the difficulty level of the Strike is no longer determined by the playlist, but instead by the characters’ level and the matchmaking that occurs behind the scenes.

Per the bolded, that seems like a nice option if the new strikes really are significantly more fun/interesting than the old ones. I am curious though if the Marmoset playlist is just the 4 new strikes, or if it also includes the 3 re-tooled ones to make the total 7.

Was a graphical update included in 2.0? Playing on the Xbox One and it definitely feels different. Really love the new UI and galaxy map, looks great.

Probably gonna include all seven. For Xbox players the retooled strikes are new.

But I think it's four new strikes plus an extra new strike on PS.

My son has Destiny on the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One because we bought it on the 360 digitally. Same for all of the DLC. Will this deal also work with The Taken King?
Edit: just read the first page. No. Damn.

Also, his birthday is tomorrow. I would like to get the new DLC for him (even though it doesn't come out til next week). What's the best way to get it? Should I just buy him a MS Gift card?

Ah ok. I enjoyed strike playlists for a time when Destiny first came out, but even when I came back for HoW I only ran them a handful of times. I am definitely hoping that the new/retooled strikes are as dynamic and not bullet-spongey as they have been, because I have always at least liked the idea of the strike playlist

Iv had two ghost shells drop they have tkk logos...

Those are dropping, but actual guns/armor are not.

Am I right in seeing that strike bosses now drop the engrams on death now instead of only dropping a token for 200 glimmer?

Are they? That's a good change. When you kill a boss you should actually see and immediately scoop up the loot he drops, not just receive completion rewards after the fact. It makes the experience feel better.

in the videos of new strikes I have seen the boss dropped a blue and a green engram on death, yeah it's a ton better to see the loot drop then to just get a popup in the results screen.

Does this playlist have matchmaking?

Loving the update so far. It feels good to have normal leveling with light just affecting attributes. Gaining rep with factions is even easier, which was another main gripe I had.

What was the change made to rep earning? Is that the thing where you buy faction affiliation for a week?

When you pledge to a Faction you now get Crucible + Faction or Vanguard + Faction rep for activities and bounties. It used to be either all for the Faction or all for V/C.

End result is your rep gains are now more significant since they'll feed 2 ranks at the same time.

I did not know this. Basically there is no reason not to belong to a faction now.

So I should do it with my remaining 2 characters...

He'll have 4-5 guns to choose from so you could get up to 3 different weapons.

I'm not sure if I will level up with all of my characters though -- getting the sniper rifle done was kind of irritating and time-consuming just because I'm not very good with it in the Crucible.

Do we know if this is an additive effect? In other words, is the faction rep you gain "free" on top of your Crucible or Vanguard rep or are you gaining Crucible/Vanguard rep more slowly because some of it is being siphoned off toward the faction you've pledged?

you get twice the rep for vangaurd compared to faction

vangaurd 63 (done nightfall) for a 50 bounty, and then 32 for the faction instead of 25

Well shit, I thought it meant I wouldn't get any Vanguard or Crucible rep. So much wasted potential rep gains. :(

Thanks. If you weren't pledged to a faction, though, would you get more for Vanguard or only the 50 (or 63 with Nightfall bonus)?

Have the missing emblems shown up in the kiosk yet? Has Bungie commented on this issue yet? I was surprised to see no mention of it in the Help section of the weekly update.

I feel like the colors may be more vibrant, but it could just be my brain playing tricks on me.

If you mean the subclass emblems, all is well. What was open this week was the Subclass PvE quest for class items. Next week they'll open the the subclass PvP quests for emblems.

If it's the pre order stuff, if you don't have it now you'll get it on Tuesday.

I'm talking about the early pre-launch emblems, like Illusion of Light. They used to be available at Tess, and then the Tess Kiosk, but now they are gone.

Is Gamestop still doing trades for those of us with only the base game? Base for 20$ off TTK?

That actually doesn't even start until tomorrow. The promotion runs from the 12th to the 21st.
