Fallout 4 PC Performance Thread

Anyone with similar specs to mine able to get a consistent 60 FPS? I don't really expect it, but might as well ask.
i5-3570K @ Stock (3.7 GHz)
8GB RAM
GTX 750Ti 2GB

Someone knows how to fix the issue with ultra widescreen? I tried some setting from a blog to 'fix' it, but it even got worse.

Settings I used:
bTopMostWindow=1
bMaximizeWindow=1
bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=XXXX
iSize W=YYYY

Edit: Fixed it.

getting a new pc in hte next few weeks but for now i have an i7 2600k 3.4ghz, 8gb ram and a Nvidia GTX 590. this should be alright on a mix of settings for a few weeks, right?

no real problem if not but the itch is real.

Does this work in reverse? Can I cap to 30 if I set it to such? I'm confident my PC will give a solid 30 FPS, but I don't like it when a game goes higher and back down again. GTAV does that and it irritates the hell out of me.

Setting iPresentInterval=2 will enable what I believe to be double v-sync. It's extremely smooth 30 fps combined with RTSS caps but adds a severe amount of mouse lag.

The framerate in this game is all over the place. I can get anywhere from 120 fps to 30 fps, oftentimes with very little justification for framerate dips. It never gets near unplayable, but it's such a poorly optimized mess. Especially since Ultra settings at 1440p performs about as well, and sometimes worse than a maxed out Witcher 3 at 1440p on my system.

I've got a 2500K at 4.3GHz, a Samsung SSD and and 970, but only 4GB of RAM.

Will I be okay??

edit: Just seen post above. Seems like I will.

Why do devs keep stating 8GB minimum when 4GB is fine??

I'm running a 2600k at 4.0GHZ same SSD and 970GTX and it runs like a champ. However I do have 16GB of memory.

4GB might be your Achilles heel.

For the rest of us, what did you find? I think my initial .ini change worked, but when I change it from the console it pops back.

I changed it in all of the .ini files. It launches with the changed FOV but it looks like opening the console will revert it back.

Okay, when I first booted the game, it set my options to the lowest settings. However, I checked with my Gerforce Experence program and it optimized everything on ultra. Now the game hardly ever boots up, and when it does I get like 5 frames per second. Help?

reposting for new page. I really need help

Whenever I try borderless window mode the game runs at about 40 fps unless I'm looking at a wall or something. But when I try full screen it runs at 60 fps. What could be causing this? I've disabled vsync and turned everything as low as it could go to see if it would change, but nothing.

Optimization! Or lack of it! Just because the starting area runs at 60fps in your computer doesn't mean the game runs well. There are much more demanding areas later.

For example, there are some places like near the top of the Corvega Plant where I have 60 fps looking to one side and 25 fps looking at the other.

In other words, the framerate tanks when I look at a particular area. Why? Well, that area has a bigger amount of houses than usual, of the type that are not a separate interior level, but are in the general map.
So the game I think the game has huge problems determining where it's what in the Z-plane, to know what to draw on the screen and what to skip. Notice how in the last screenshot most of the screen has a huge polygon drawn (the floor) so most of the houses will be behind it, even then, the framerate is still 30fps.

Exactly what I experienced and posted about earlier! Thanks for taking the time to take pictures and show the problem in detail. This should be in the OP, since I think a lot of people are getting their impressions on performance from the early game. This is not the only area that suffers from this problem, there are numerous others as well! I hope they can patch it out soon!

Turn everything back to low?

ok, so running a 144Hz monitor will get you stuck at terminals apparently...

Time to unlock framerate, and set limiter in CCC.

Works fine for me on my 144hz G-Sync monitor, but I didn't mess with anything in the ini files, so I imagine V-Sync is still on.

Also, on the system RAM discussion, memory is so cheap that I don't know why anyone would like that be their potential bottleneck. 4GB was standard for mid-range PCs like 7 or 8 years ago. I'd say 8 should be the minimum people should target these days.

I have the exact same problem at that area.

Geforce TitanX @ 1406Mhz
5820K @ 4.4Ghz
16GB DDR4 @ 2666Mhz
850 Evo SSD
Nvidia Driver 358.91
Windows 7

1080p, Ultra preset + Godrays Ultra

60% GPU utilization, and none of the CPU cores are anywhere near maxed.

This reminds me of Skyrim, on the steps in front of the Jarls place in Whiterun, looking out across the fields. Same kind of drop. I think that eventually was fixed.

I asked previously but noone responded...but is anyone else having an issue with Geforce Experience showing a 'This game cannot be optimised' error with the latest drivers (358.91) ?

I can still use the slider to launch with custom settings but it doesnt seem to be able to work properly with the game

About to jump into this with a 970. Looking for 60fps.

Should I pick the Ultra preset and just roll with that? Or do the Ultra preset and drop the godrays a bit?

The game sits at the main menu and won't let me press new game with either a keyboard or a controller. What a load of shit

I had a similar problem. My controller worked fine but kb&m didn't work. I booted my computer and disconnected the controller and it worked. Not sure if disconnecting the controller was necessary though.

Hadn't touched anything with regards to V-sync. It's more in regards to actual framerate. With a 144hz screen, the game will set v-sync to match, I believe, and if you get around or close to 100fps, you can get stuck at the terminals. Set the framelimiter to 61fps now and seems to be working fine.

Could be you're lucky, or not affected at all, or you're not getting close to or over 100fps at the terminals.

Every Bethesda game has this. You have to manually disable the controller in the options.

so does anyone know if:

i3-2100
ram 4gig
video geforce gtx 660 4gig

would be ab le to run it on low-medium at 30?

i'm okay with hitching and stuff, i just want to know if i should get the ps4 version instead

I can't even get the game to run, every resolution I pick the image is either incredibly zoomed in, cut off from the side or stretched so much that it's unplayable. Monitor's native res is 3440x1440 and I can't get it to tun at the res either. The game seems to only want to run in windowed mode. Once I try and run it fullscreen I can't pick any resolution and the game starts on a black screen and then either crashes or stays stuck there.

What settings are you running at the moment? That's pretty much what I get regardless of tweaking. Also, do you tend to get stuttering whenever the FPS fluctuates?

I don't really get any stuttering? It can slowdown a bit indoors or with a lot of light effects going on but I am running with Ultra textures and shadows also on max. Godrays on low and no motion blur. 1080p, most other settings on High, the sliders with the face, I adjusted the actor fade a notch up I think, like the DF article suggested

I currently have the PS4 version pre-ordered, but I'm strongly considering picking up the PC version instead.

According to CanYouRunIt, my CPU falls short of recommended. What say you, GAF?

i5-3570K @ 3.40 GHz
Radeon 7950 3GB
8GB RAM

Should I stick to the PS4 version or go PC?

Same setup here, fingers crossed.

For sure low? Medium won't cut it? Or is the difference in quality not really worth it?

Also, thanks!

everything ultra minus high object detail fade, medium shadow distance, and medium godrays is doing alright for me (with a 970 @ 1440p) while I wait for SLI. Well except that it is stuttery all of sudden at times. But it does act stupid with godrays when they show up, even in medium.

lol i didn't do a damn thing except go to sleep and now the game is unplayable

Was there some audio patch that destroyed my game?

having stutter even on the lowest settings, with sli turned off.

Could be. I'll turn on FRAPS tonight when I play to check. The frame rate was very smooth and consistent for me last night.

Few hours in and so far so good.

Fullscreen gave me a stutter but borderless fixed it, changed my fov and the wonky aiming in the files. Constant 60fps @1080p/ultra on a 970/3570k

i7-4790k
GTX 970 G1 (small overclock to match a stock 980)
16GB DDR 3

Game set to max except for Godrays which are set to High (this is what the game set for me when I first launched it)

I'm at the very beginning (Sanctuary Hills after the intro), but the game runs perfectly fine so far with no stuttering or frame rate drops. I heard some people are having some mouse lag but I'm playing with a 360 controller and it seems fine.

It seems like its locked to 60, but I'm not going to change that as I've read a few posts mentioning that it breaks at higher frame rates.

Steam's FPS counter is great

Settings -> in-game

Thanks! I always forget about that feature

You can check framerate through Steam overlay btw.

Steam->Settings->in-game
Should be an "in-game FPS counter" with a drop down list there.
