My plan:

%100 vanilla on PS4. Learn everything then new PC next year with mods.

Will be GLORIOUS to see how many mods will be out by next year. It'll be like Fallout 4.5 rofl

Same here. I intentionally avoid pc the first time around with bethesda games.
My memories of 360 skyrim are just as good as the one's with all the dlc and mods.
im getting a pc upgrade in jan as well so it should even run great .

I really have no idea why they felt like they needed to have the game take place 200 years after the bombs.

It takes place in an entirely different part of the country from fallout 1/2 so there's no way they would even know what's going on over there.

The idea that 200 year old instant mashed potatoes, soda, and apples are edible or even would be readily available is crazy.

The idea that none of the trees would have grown back in 200 years is stupid.

200 years ago there were no buildings, roads, railroads, or anything but native americans in 75% of the area now known as the united states.

This is just such a stupid plot point and I cannot understand why they feel it's necessary to go so far away from the bombs but still be tied to the pre-war stuff.

I love the game but the creators of the original fallout had enough sense to be one or two generations removed from the war.

I am regularly thinking about this as well. The 200 years bit so far feels entirely arbitrary and nonsensical. 2 years makes more sensse, but 200 is hard to swallow given the relative state of things.

I love the game for what it is, even though lots of things about it piss me off, but I think this is the last time I give Bethesda a free pass. I know they have put money and time into modding and updating the gamebryo engine, but the underlying problems of that engine are still here.

Figured id ask again:

Can I have one settler do multiple tasks with no ill effects? Say work food (crops) and a store?! Thanks!

I think settlers can only perform one task at a time - food, defense, supply line, etc. I haven't unlocked stores yet so I don't know for sure though, but it seems like a new assignment overrides the old one? Not 100% on this.

I am interested too... Also when you have multiple crops near to each other it seems that assigning a settler to one crop is enough and he will work on the other ones around, can you confirm?

I think there's a set limit on how much crop a single settler uses. If you look at the crop and the requirement is red, that means a settler isn't working it. But if it's blue you're good. (Or green or whatever your Pip-Boy color is.)

I'm riding this game hard but the next Fallout needs a new engine or gamebryo needs to be chopped up and put back together properly.

no. You can keep playing after you finish it but I havent heard anything about NG+

really? I just went there and I thought I was nearing the end, er...story wise. Im nowhere near being done with it myself. neat.

Aww man, i was hoping for a NG+ or something to do other factions with my same loot and stuff.

How in gods name do you max out your characters SPECIAL in one game.

Kinda bored now. Quests are just "go here, speak to X, go kill Y"

The loot is boring
The armour is boring
There doesn't feel like any reason to explore.

The conversation system is utter shit. The game doesn't feel like an RPG at all.

Holy hell. What's your play style?

How did you rack up so much?

super conservative. i use the concrete punch whenever possible.
points in luck , intelligence , end and strength.
use lone wolf maxed out with dog. making my may to solar power perk.
level 3 scavenger. and lv8 luck.
now theres ammo everywhere. also, when i fight against something, i try to use a gun that is usually used by my enemy.
that way i almost always end up with more ammo than i came in with even when i use them liberally. also, i got a bit lucky with legendaries. 3 of the 4 i use are legendary. my lazer rifle 1 shots weak synths and they always drop like 7-10 cells minimum so it adds up to a lot if i kill 20-30 in a dungeon.
same goes for others. for the pistol ammo (1200) i dunno it drops and appears in chests like stupid. like 40 at a time

Getting really, REALLY fucking sick of terminal-locked doors breaking and becoming impossible to open. Terminals in general seem like a glitchy mess because they often force you to wait for them to disengage locks or else they'll be permanently stuck in a loop.

quicksave before attempting. Doesn't everyone do this?

I'm a little confused, sturgess is telling me Garvey wants to talk to me after doing the opening sanctuary quest line that revolves around defenses and resources, but when I talk to Garvey he has nothing to say to me?

It's the same with me. I think because I got a Minutemen quest off Garvey before finishing the quest for Sturges, he has nothing left to say until you finish that quest. Maybe it's the same for you.

this has never happened to me and I never wait for the disengage locks screen. are you on pc? I heard some stuff in this thread about unlocked framerates breaking the terminals

the difference is mainly that your response isn't pre-written on the screen. so? I don't nee to read a whole response and then hear them say it. Welcome change IMO. And you forgot the persuasion option in F4. And there are multiple levels of that.

No, that is far from the only difference. Other than the charisma checks, all the of the answers do the same thing. It literally makes no difference what you say. If you're a dick, you still progress the quest. In past games, saying the wrong thing could get you killed and lose an entire faction. Speaking of checks, there are no checks other than charisma. You could have max int, science, etc. and act stupid when a scientific dialog comes up. In Fallout 1, you couldn't even speak english if your stats were too low. Even the charisma checks are largely reduced to: "I want more caps for that" or "give me a little more background on this quest". I could name one hand the number of times it has actually changed the outcome of a quest

Maybe I'm just having all the right conversations, but I'm always able to tell people no, squeeze them for money, or be a total asshole, along with the usual nice and neutral responses. The speech options are generally the same, they just don't have the skill checks outside of charisma, and now you don't have the option to ask everyone in the world the same stupid expository questions ad nauseam. They also follow a path so you can't start a conversation with "Hey fuckface I just skinned your cat" then immediately pick the "Well hey there pal, how are you doing today? Can I do anything for you? Need anything? I love you, buddy."

Pretty sure you haven't even played the game, let alone any RPG ever... Nice try

saying no doesn't actually do anything though. its the same as walking away. you can walk back and say yes

Okay im gonna say it ,
ghouls are bloody OP as hell.
their lunge is faster than what a vats slowdown can even make up for. ive been slapped so many times now.
its just better to go the traditional zombie killing melee route with them.

At least they didn't make them lunge like Bloodsuckers in STALKER :P (bloodsuckers at night doing this in STALKER makes you NOPE quick). You usually hear them make a noise before they lunge (or other noises knowing one is in the area).

Why do people even like it that much? I stored it in my house because you can't add mods to it and the sword I had equipped at the time was better since it has higher damage AND caused bleed/poison.

If anything I just recently did a side quest that gave me a bunch of broken ass weapons. It gave me a unique stealth combat knife that does its base damage plus causing enemies to bleed 25 damage. It's incredible broken against many enemies because it's fast as fuck.

In that quest I also got a buttload of legendary enemies. One of them dropped a unique mallet that causes stagger and I can still mod to do even more damage. I'm keeping it around as my heavy weapon whenever I find those big Boss enemies I'll switch to that and do sneak attack. It's gonna probably 1 hit kill them.

Um where do I find a sniper rifle?

I've played for about 10 hours doing quests and even reached
diamond city
.

But I still don't have a sniper :(

Christ, being unable to cancel animations in progress is the most annoying thing ever.

Yea, sure, let me just run into my power armor for all of eternity because I accidentally tried to get into from the wrong angle.

Played a few hours now and I'm finding the jankiness is just too much.

I keep coming across raiders shooting at presumably good guys. But I can't see anything and it's all confusing. I'm even struggling to locate the bodies of people I've killed.

It's just janky and frustrating. I hope I'll get into it the more I play but I have to say I'm really unimpressed.

So much has happened with open world games since Fallout 3. This doesn't seem to have improved on any level. In fact, I'm enjoying it less than 3.

Something's wrong.
I enjoyed my most recent quest and got
Strong
as a companion, so I dismissed Dogmeat to the Red Rocket Station. Then I decided to dismiss Strong to Drive-in theater and headed back to the Station to find Dogmeat.

But he didn't show up. I built a dog house and slept for a few days but nothing.
Is this a possible glitch?

Did you figure this out? I dismissed both of them to Sanctuary Hills and neither are there. I believe they walk there in real time?

dogmeat is in one of the kennels.leave only one for convenience.
strong used to be standing in my shed but would disappear randomly.
i sent him to the castle and now he's always walking around in the middle

they only walk there in real time if you do. if you fast travel they should be there

you can build a bell to gather everyone in a settlement at one spot. must easier than chasing people down

First Fallout game here (well not first, played FO3 and NV, got bored after an hour or so, so quit). Need some tips (or please point me a post which has some tips for beginners)
I have played Skyrim, W3, and pretty much every Action RPG to death so I am not new to RPGs.
But somethings I don't understand here.

-Conversation syste? Does it affect quests in any ways?
-Power Armor: Any way to store it? After we get it, are we supposed to keep wearing it? What if I just leave it midway? Does it get stolen or something? Any way to store it permanently?

you can leave it wherever you want as long as you take the fusion core out. I like to leave mine in the power armor racks though, because I'm obsessive like that

except for a few minor cases I can think of in some side quests, conversation choices dont affect anything other than the dialog you get back. You'll know if something requires charisma, and you can walk away to put on a charisma outfit or take a grape mentat to pass those checks

Back in
Sanctuary
(do I even need to spoil that anymore?), I kept hearing a strange noise from an animal.. I was unable to find it, until I wanted to take a screenshot of my character.

And lo' and behold:

Conversation system/dialogue structure is largely under fire in this thread for being savagely dumbed down. Outcome based on selection is almost non-existent now, aside from some minor charisma checks to get more caps or info(so rare). You just kind of say hello, are given orders and follow-through...at least this has been my experience in 12 hours, which feels much more shallow than prior games.

Power armor is poorly explained. Just park it near a yellow rack at a base, and then quickly use the rack to edit. This will keep it locked into the rack. Otherwise it just stays where you abandoned, but highlighted on map.

I assume these quests to
set up MILAs for the crazy dude at the Railroad HQ
are just another endlessly repeatable faction quests like the other factions have, but I must admit, this one I just did was actually quite exciting to figure out how to get to the point
