Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

The smoothing is gross, but I'm really bummed about the lack of a retranslation. This would have been the perfect time to finally do it. Lame.

Will likely never happen now, what with a full blown remake on the way, unfortunately.

Is there anyway to turn on locations markers so I know which area in the pre rendred backdrop are accesible. I remeber it being a feature on the ps3 version.

The real question is why did this take so long?

also.. one major thing has changed. we can't just hold down the button to attack anymore. you have to mash it. oh well lol

This default running.. the automatically using the superior X for input.. the smoothness of the textures and animations like butter.. easily the definitive classic VII experience. The opening section is still probably my favorite opening to any Final Fantasy game.

FF7 is a treasure

but dont many ff fans consider FF 6 to be superior?

what are your guys opinions on that

No, that's a very vocal minority. Final Fantasy wouldn't have nearly as large a fanbase if it weren't for Final Fantasy VII. Some were put off by the switch to PlayStation or the move to 3D but FFVII is overall a much more sophisticated and impactful game. That's not to say FFVI isn't a masterpiece in its own right but even the creators who worked on both games are on the record that VII was a massive leap forward over what they accomplished in VI.

Sakaguchi said the previous games can be considered puppet shows compared to FFVII.

This.
When you ask people who don't follow video games much but they recognize FFVII, you see how big it is.

It's a weird thing to complain about, but built-in cheats might have ruined it for me.

It's not like the game was ever hard (outside Weapons, that is) so maxing out HP/MP isn't that big of a deal, but fighting normally is a waste of time when you can just press a button and LB something dead. I'd have that on the back of my head through the game.

Just left Midgar. Gonna farm for Matra Magic and Atomic Scissors near Midgar and then call it a night. Stepping out onto the world map for the first time still feels amazing.

So I don't have to worry about getting all the non-summon materia or the enemy skills for the trophies right?

Nope, none of those are required for a Trophy.

Good thing too, because the Enemy Skill trophy would have been a pain in the ass.

anyone have a good refresher on a missable items list or something? :D i'll check gamefaqs later i guess

i remember my main master file on PSX... i missed Barret's final weapon :O god missing that haunted me, I put probably 200 hours into that file and still had no idea why I couldn't find it... didn't even know where it was until I got internet access about a year later (28k haha) and figured out i permanently missed it Q_Q

Strange. The backgrounds are the part I think still hold up.

Lol, I have no idea, but it is a blurry mess on my tv. The characters appear to pop out in comparison.

:(

Same here.

Curious to know, can someone screenshot the additional credits from the title screen?

Did Dotemu end up doing this port as originally announced?

So I just launched this, what's up with the black bars at the top and bottom? I of course no why they're there on the left and right, but why are they there at the top and bottom? (They're not huge, but they are noticeable...)

sounds like overscan? do you have your tv set to dot to dot/full-pixel?

The boost cheat being so easily accessible really bugs me. I already used it once because I was about to die and I'd rather not restart from the save point.
I just don't have the self restraint for this shit, especially when it's a simple button press away. The game is going to basically play itself.

haha maybe not so stupid ;p considering how most games are today and if someone was new to old style jrphs haha totally not a slight i could see ppl making that mistake :D

Are there any missable trophies beside the aerith limit, date, Don corneo, secret chats....
And does using the turbomode trophies? Don't want tu use the statsboost stuff, but running fast outside of the countdownareas is fine.

So, I'm curious what's going on in this shot:

It looks like there's some sort of weird smoothing filter that's being applied ina couple spots; namely, the sign at the top left and the platform in the foreground on the right. Were the original assets that smeared, or did they SuperEagle a few elements other than the text?
