You finally step out of Midgar and stare at the beautiful distance. A huge overworld stretches as far as the eye can see, rendered in perfect HD graphics. Your characters look stoic and prepared. Ready for a new adventure.

"To be continued in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Part 2".

FUUUUUUUCK.

Then you have to wait 6 months for the next episode. You finally download it, start it and...

Your characters immediately start at Kalm. You cannot leave the town. Cloud comments on how amazing it was to get there, to fight the monsters, to see the creatures, to see the hills and plains.
lol, this is just EVIL, haha

God dammit...

I just want the remake. I don't want episodic crap. What's this about "unique experiences"? The original game was a full game and it had PLENTY of unique experiences. Why are they being segmented now???

Assumptions I know but this is just... worrying. *sigh* I hope they explain this soon.

meh...game looked awesome, and SE seems to be nailing the design and staying true to the original. For some reason, I'm not worried about this at all. I think they are going to flesh out certain scenes, adding dialog and effects and branching out the story. If this is a way for us to play the title say in 2017 instead of 2019, I don't see what the problem is?

Hype level is the same as it was when I first saw the gameplay, this is just something different, why do we all automatically assume different = worse?

Pessimistic lot you are...

Same.

The funny thing about this model is how the PS4 timed exclusivity is going to work into it. Imagine episode 1 coming out, and then say 6 months later it hits PC and XB1 or something like that. Then when episode 2 comes out on PS4 here comes another 6 month wait for the other systems.

I guess I'm supposed to be upset about this?

...

This just seems like good news for anyone who wants more FF.

People said the same thing back in 2012.

Why are we assuming it's three parts? And yes it's doable.

Mainly because of Square Enix's fixation on trilogies. And VII was split into 3 discs originally, though most of the content was shared between discs.

What difference does it make? If you want a complete package just wait till all episodes are released and buy it all at once. All this means is that parts of the game will be playable early for people who want to play parts of the game early. The only sucky thing is that we'll have to pay maybe a $100 for the full thing but whatever, even that is worth it.

Because it's episodic, every individual episode will have to stand on its' own two feet.

If they're making two or more games that are going to look like that trailer they showed, and they're all normal length games (which I assume would be the case), I can't see why I'd be upset.

Now if this means we get 1 20-hour game every 3 years or some bullshit like that, then I'd be annoyed. But this? This just seems like good news for anyone who wants more FF.

Why do you assume it's more FF? Releasing it in episodes could neuter its openness. Reduce the game down to a linear series of cinematic gameplay sequences.

Oh man, please stop. You're making me sad. I don't want to be sad.

this is what I'm most worried of.

WTF? Is episodic this big of a deal? Some of you have completely lost your minds.

It depends on how it's implemented. If the first "part" is just the Midgar section then they are milking it for all it's worth.

But if it's treated like the 13 series meaning each part is a full game then I'm ok with it. Clearly they are adding more story elements. But they need to keep the exploration/world map and side quests as well.

Lol. Everyone is just so set on being negative about this. Im cool, im in. I wouldnt mind having a different experience this time around.

An episodic release might work out. FF VII was such a big game that it would be hard for them to include everything in a fully realized, high budget release. This way we can be sure to get everything.

Honestly, i dont care how they adapt it. This is their plan to make it work. Its best to see how it turns out, or at least waiting for the bigger picture before getting all uptight about it.

But then again, there were people getting upset about the font used in the PS4 port. Its going to be hard to please fans. Im just going to keep an open mind.

People are so fickle. Just one minor stuff is all it takes for the to go off the rails even though nothing is shown yet.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. If the game can come out faster then I don't see what's wrong with this. If you want everything in one go, I'm sure there's the final edit version at the end of the releases.

Those games were developed by massive teams and took years to make. I don't think anybody expects Square Enix is devoting that level of resources to this game.

Uh what????

We all did. This is Squares most famous game. Of course we'd think this game would get a big budget/team.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I know you're upset but it could just be a FFXIII, FFXIII-2, etc situation where we'll get 2, 3, 4 FULL games...let's wait on clarification

I don't want to fucking compare it to XIII. Those are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAMES and I don't feel ANYTHING about those games in comparison to VII.

Just the thought of starting FFVII for the first time and then end with a "To Be Continued" ruins the entire fucking thing. It ruins the hype. It ruins the reviews for the games. It ruins the consistency of the game. It ruins the immersion. It ruins fucking everything.

Ugh if it's going to cost over £100 I'd expect the full goddamn studio to be working flatout on it making it actually worth my money.

Cause otherwise, it ain't.

We all knew the hobbit (the book) wasn't long enough for 3 movies.

FF7 has more than enough content for that

It's actually the opposite fear. That there's too much content, so they'll just start blasting it out of the game.

Not even mad...

Just incredibly sad that Square Enix just Square Enix'd us all again.

I knew everything was going too well.

To be fair, that was them stretching out a children's book far, far beyond what was available to work with in the source material.

I can imagine FFVII having more than enough content and plot justifying being broken up into smaller episodes, I'd just rather have it all in one big cohesive product like the original.

The problem is, you can still explore the world and track back to towns and cities that you have visited in the original 3 discs game. With this being and episodic game, do you believe you can still do that? How about the optional bosses and quests? Lots of thing will be cut.

And your example is just perfect reflection of this. This will be a linear game like a movie. Is the original FFVII linear?

I'd be interested to know if the "episode" sizes are in line with the maximum iOS app size limit. Breaking it up for easy selling on a mobile app store seems like a no brainer.

What about Xenoblade X? It's fucking massive....and it's on the Wii U! I think they're full of shit. Missing something here?

Unique Experiences?

SE, you are fucking morons.

Well, that is exactly how I FEAR it will be. Like a "compilation" of the most important scenes of FFVII.
I could see them doing that to streamline the work involved.

But I'm going to optimistically say it'll still be the full adventure. Just broken into three parts with additional scenes added to expand on the world and characters.

Will it work? Dunno. But I won't write it off yet.

No way is Vincent and Yuffie optional. They will definitely be a mandatory part of the cast.
It was just an example. I just meant to point out that releasing FFVII in parts doesn't mean that the game will be divided into 20 parts that each take 1-2 hours to complete and are as linear as any Telltale adventure nowadays. They could still make it an actual RPG with explorable cities & overworld areas that have enemies to fight against, dungeons to find, side-quests in those environments etc. Dividing FFVII into "episodes" (nowhere to they say episodic, though, just parts) could mean they are just making FFVII into a Mass Effect like trilogy where each part is still a full-fledged, big RPG.

Are you envisioning something like a 3 part release with a shared save file or something more like FF13 where they are 3 separate games?

How are you rationalizing this as "more FF"?

It's still the same length whether they break it up into smaller chunks or not.

In fact, it's potentially less, since it gives them an "out" to skip nonlinear segments and deliver cohesive, contained setpieces.

Just the thought of starting FFVII for the first time and then end with a "To Be Continued" ruins the entire fucking thing. It ruins the hype. It ruins the reviews for the games. It ruins the consistency of the game. It ruins the immersion. It ruins fucking everything.
