PS2 Appreciation & Celebration Thread, long live the King!

That Ghost in the Shell PS2 game is alright. Nice acrobatics and melee combat, but the shooting is a little sketchy. Hard to aim.

Also, there was no in-game explanation of how to hack your enemies and control them. It must be in the manual only.

PSX game is the best GITS game imo. Oni is the real PS2 GITS title for me :P

Would playing the game makes sense if i never saw the movie? I have the anime on my on my shelf but never viewed it. Also have seen a few random episodes of SAC.

robot > girl

The girl IS a robot!

Weeb-raging over here.

It's enjoyable on its own. I haven't watched the original movie in over a decade but you should definitely watch it.

Just know that you can get a double-jump off of walls, and that when you run into snipers you can pick up a "Unit ID" that will let you hack into them when you look at them and press X. A person is hackable when the arrow over their head turns blue.

thanks!

I've been keeping a pinned tab of a search for "Playstation 2 games lot" on eBay, and checking it every so often. Seeing the emulation screenshot thread is inspiring me to pick up some PS2 games and run them in PCSX2. The Final Fantasy XII shots are especially impressive.

I can't wait to play Art of Fighting 1 and 2!!!

Heard the 2nd game is one of the hardest fighting games out there.

My haul today:

I got Haunting Ground, Primal and Clock Tower 3 from a craigslist seller for $5 each!!! I typically never check CL because nobody has anything good, if they do they want ebay prices for it and it's flooded with resellers. But for some reason I checked it today right when I woke up and this guy's PS2 games were the first thing on the page! I had to drive about 30 minutes to pick it up but I'm not complaining!

Then I went to a nearby goodwill and got Rygar for $2.99 and a Mega Man mug for 99 cents.

This morning was pretty productive for me!

Persona 3 FES never ends. Been playing it for over a month now.

Thats not to say I dislike it. But just make sure you have 90+ hours available if you pick it up.

That is some nice luck. Haunting Ground is one of the last PS2 games that I want to play that I don't have yet, but nope at ebay prices.

I just beat 1. It's great but kinda tough. Now on to 2, which I heard is really hard.

nice! really enjoyed art of fighting. i don't remember if it's the same for part 2 but part one, the special bonus stage gives you the super fireball special move. (i think all the bonuses were helpful)

played a bunch of Shinobi the past few nights and loving it so far. Other times I've started it, I never really got past the first few levels cause it seemed a bit boring. Didn't realize they were like tutorial levels. Shit gets real and it feels like a damn good ninja game.

only complaint is the camera, but I'm still sort of frantically mashing and moving the sticks around like it's gonna be super responsive.

Get ready for one of the hardest and frustrating Final Boss EVER, i can't remember how many time i was about throw my controller on the wall, I'm usually a really calm person when come to challenge... but this one is insane. The worst is when i see a video that he 2 shot him like butter on hardest difficulty.... grrr

Great game btw, the sequel was a little less fun for me...

New pickups to add to the collection. Found both of these brand new in the wild for a great price.

Bombastic has a huge learning curve but it's such a fun game. Popping in Gungrave now

What the heck at the Popolocrois III comment. Did they own an overpowered SNES prototype or something? Too bad this game never made it, it probably would have been better than what we got.
Also, lol at the Bouncer being "Best of Show".

Got to remember that the first look at Bouncer was a bit different then what we got. There was a bunch of stuff that didn't make it into the game iirc.

Bouncer was really impressive when it got release and still now one of the best looking game on ps2. The physic of broken table and glass was amazing for the time. Truly push the ps2 to the limit.

The Popolocrois III comment on the article is so unprofessional...

haha I keep getting warned about this boss. can't wait to get there!

I've found that it's generally a better idea to buy individually on ebay, unless it's less than five games. Lots are either filled with games I don't want like sports games or lisenced games, or really overpriced when I do want those games.

Oooo nice scans...
ps2 pre-launch made me so hyped but at the same time i didn't want it. bc i was so invested in dreamcast. i knew it was going to die once ps2 came out...

Fantavision was the greatest launch game ever =D i wonder if anyone has the gm...

starting playing shadow of destiny last night after repeatedly dying on re1 directors cut...

i'm up to chapter 2... i never got all the endings so this will give me a chance to run it through again.

It was a running narrative of the time with 3d being the future all. It is a bit amusing to see a mag actively hope that a game that they don't like the style of isn't going to come out other places though.

Gaf, I need your help. There's a PS2 game where I can see the cover but I can't think of what it's called. On the cover were 2 monsters and it had a style similar to Monsters Inc meets Tim Burton. I want to say it was a platformer game? I think it had a name like Helter Skelter, or Helty and Skelty, or perhaps Hundy and Grundy, or something like that, I'm pretty sure it had an "and" in the title. Please somebody help, it's eating me from the inside!

I think I got it, Herdy Gerdy, boy I was way off with that cover description. Now that I figured it out, anybody played it?

Ugh, I can't believe that quote. The first time I played Popo was on PSP and I absolutely loved it. I would've loved a PS2 entry. What a terribly ignorant opinion from a major magazine.

That is the fun part. Though it turned into the "annoying but I got to get this done" part after a while for me after playing the same levels over and over and over. I'm only casually into shooter games though.

did you use a guide at the time? i've been doing it w/o looking online to see how many i can get on my own. LOL (but i have to start over as my memory card was in that case i misplaced)

I got a bunch without a guide but then started looking them up after a while. I wasn't intentionally trying to do it without a guide though just was playing through with the different ships then looked how to get more when didn't get a new one for a while.

I love fantavision it rarely leaves my ps2 such a fun little game

Art of Fighting 2 is beaten...what a rough game, now on to fighting Geese(which means not losing a single round at all).
