My girlfriend laughed at some of the costumes in Civil War. She couldn't take the emotional parts seriously.

She didn't laugh ever in BvS. She couldn't take the emotional parts seriously, either.

Make of that what you will.

Seems like you need a new girlfriend m8.

Mine had a fucking blast and constantly asked me about the comics

On Civil War that is...she fell asleep halfway through BvS

In the end, both are just superhero blockbuster movies that we enjoy for a time, and then move on. What's the point in comparing the two?

Maybe the majority enjoyed Civil War more, will write about it on the Internet for a bit longer, but ultimately will just move on because the next big superhero blockbuster is about to come out.

Even the hate for BvS will subside quickly when the next bad superhero blockbuster comes out.

There's no point in this shit. And I hate myself for following this shit so closely. How low have I fallen man. I hate this place sometimes. I hate myself sometimes.

You know, I used to have a fucking social life. Now it's just NeoGAF and all this entertainment shit. Fuck.

I didnt enjoy BvS for a time at all.

People have been writing movies for decades? Of course there's a point to discuss and compare films, and it has nothing to down fanboys or Marvel vs DC

And considering two movies in the same genre, with a similar premise, released with a month or so of each other, it's impossible to not see them compared.

he has a point about moving on to the next one though. with the good comic book movies and the bad ones.

none of them lately seem to feel like they will have a shelf life beyond even 10 years personally. its all so disposable. and with this extended universe stuff discussion is almost always immediately about what happens next.

it's time to live in the present maaaaaaaaaaan /stonervoice

In a few ways Civil War is BvS except simply done right.
  • The conflict between the two superheroes makes more sense
  • The resolution to the conflict between the two heroes makes a ton more sense
  • The logic behind the bad guy putting the two heroes against each other makes WAY more sense
  • There's more "justice" in Civil War than Dawn of Justice
  • The heroes on both sides of the conflict actually have logic that makes sense
  • The superheroes actually act like superheroes and not brooding murderers

Dont forget the world building. Spidey and BP were integrated into the main story, while woman wonder shows you the teaser videos for the remaining JL members. And that dreadful knightmare and flash timetravel shits.

Yeah, Black Panther isn't there just to pad out a video game final boss fight like Wonder Woman does in BvS. He actually has a role in the plot and a say in the conflict.

😂😂

It begins

Thank you, OP. Simply thank you for this thread. I've been looking forward to this exact thread for a while

Making things confusing is not an appreciable way to make you "use your mind". It has to actually be clever and meaningful.

I thought it was, sue me, it's superheroes I don't expect top shelf storytelling, it wasn't corny at all to me for example which is already a big plus for superhero stuff. Editing yeah, beats me, no idea why the editing is supposed to be better in Civil War, I just don't notice this and I think I wouldn't even want to notice this stuff. I gotta say BvS grabbed me right from the start, I loved the fact that we got a Batman with 20 years experience. The way he fought Clark put a smile on my face all the time. The way the common people react to powers like these is just something I'm a real sucker for too.

Sorry op, not with you here.

There were things I enjoyed about BvS, but on the whole I felt like the movie was more concerned with tone/visuals, then it was about story.

For example I didn't care for Lex or his motivations, I thought the "resolution" to the titular fight was completely contrived (and that the whole fight could've been avoided if they talked for like 2 minutes). I don't know - I didn't hate the movie, but it's pretty low on the list as far as CBM goes (IMO).

I left CW thinking - damn I can't wait to see this again.

I haven't seen Civil War yet, but unless it's just 2 and half hours of Donald Trump scolding a paper towel, it's going to be better than BvS.

You know what, strike that, given the choice between Trump And The Wet Towel and BvS, I would probably watch the Trump piece.

seems like she was more entertained by civil war. +1 to captain america

Shouldn't you be catching up with the MCU instead of barging into a conversation you're not equipped to enter?

I'm getting there. It takes a bit to get through since I normally don't subject myself to so many big stupid popcorn movies like this in such a short period of time. Thor and Iron Man 2 kind of took a lot of wind out of my sails. Moreso Thor.

No OP, I'm sorry, but I can't.

*sees the post above me*

It's been done in the thread already and yes opinions, but for the life of me I find it hard to understand why anyone would think that this movie would mess with your head as something positive. That is not the intention of the movie. What Zach Snyder wanted was to make the public believe there is a coherent reason why Superman and Batman (especially the latter) should fight each other. What we actually see is Batman being really, REALLY angry all the time and Superman as a character is mostly a blank slate. There are so many questions out there that aren't answered and characters making very questionable decisions that indeed fucks the brain, but in the most unpleasant way possible. Why are these dreams taking in valuable screentime? Who are the creatures facing Batman? Why is Luther so interested in merging his DNA with Zod's corpse? Better yet, what is Luthor's beef with Superman? Why is Lois Lane so damn stupid? Who is that guy coming through the portal? Is it someone Batman knows? Why doesn't Wonder Woman formally introduce herself? (I'm adding this one because during my showing several people in the audience were confused about her appearing; they had no idea it was Wonder Woman) and the list goes on. Combine this with terrible casting choices like Eisenberg for Luthor who is horrendous, overall terrible dialogue and overstuffing this movie and there is only one mindfuck left;

How is it possible that Zach Snyder is allowed to direct $ 300 million dollar movies? Okay sure, the same reason why Michael Bay still has directing jobs, but as someone who oversees the movie surely he would have realized that the movie with all the cuts that have been made wouldn't please anyone?

Civil War however doesn't need to fuck minds; it has an easy to understand story (thanks to earlier movies as a reference point), explains the views of the two main characters clearly and isn't a mess like the former.

This is the most Neogaf-ass Neogaf thread of all time.

Coming from someone who enjoyed BvS way more than most, I still can't fathom how someone could enjoy it more than Civil War.

Not only got through it, I fucking loved BvS.

It tried (and in my mind succeeded) in doing way more than the MCU movies I've seen. It was more than just a big dumb superhero movie.

BvS is the definition of big dumb superhero movie.

It even has a big dumb CGI ape as its final villain.

But oh, in the minds of BvS fans, Doomsday probably 'represented the downfall of mankind and the essence of despair' or whatever, lmao.

You're right.

It was a shitty big dumb superhero movie.

Are you saying the DC animated movies are good? Cause those are legit horrible.

Some of the newer ones suck, but even Justice League Doom, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and a fuckton of movies before those were great.

Also Dark Knight and Dark Knight Returns were awesome.
