They are but it's not generally done because you fuck over people who bought the keys from someone else. This is actually the first time I've personally seen a mass-revoke actually occur and I've been around Slickdeals a long time and seen a lot of these price errors over the years.
I guess I'm not surprised MS is such an evil company. I've never once seen a Steam key revoked when this sort of thing happens.
No one should ever buy anything on the Windows and Xbox Stores. MS can and will take away your purchases at any time.
Steam has a long history of revoking keys (including legit keys that were purchased in another region).
The funny thing is I'd argue that the seller of legit key codes is at a greater risk than the buyer.
I mean what's to stop a buyer from buying a code, using it, then claiming it didn't work and eBay sides with them?
Nothing. In fact, unless things have changed recently, eBay has always said that digital codes shouldn't be sold there (mostly because eBay didn't want to deal with the high rate of fraud claims).
Not totally unexpected but poor showing. You'd think that these three (mega) corps would find a way to handle the situation without screwing people.
Anyone know if the Xbox has to connect to the web to activate the preload? Already finished preload there. I'll just keep it offline until release.
The only ones doing any screwing of people are the scammers. You don't blame Apple when someone buys a stolen iPhone off Craigslist and then can't use it because of an iCloud lock.
Wait, so they're revoking legitimate keys just because they were obtained second-hand? Yay digital future, where you own nothing.
The keys were not revoked because they were sold second-hand. The keys were revoked because they were never paid for by the original purchasers. The ordered were cancelled.
your wrong either way. I understand why they did this but it screws the buyers not the sellers. It really sucks.
Anyone who paid via standard PayPal or via eBay is covered via buyer protection.
The only people doing the "screwing" are the scammers in the chain.
so keys sold through Amazon GPU's are fake?...Amazon is usually so easy to deal with...won't they just send you a new legit key?
The keys sold via Amazon are legit.
The keys in question here were all revoked because the original buyers cancelled the purchase. Since the original buyers told Amazon they no longer wanted the product, the keys were marked invalid.
If a gaffer who was very particular about me paying friends and family on Paypal refuses to refund me. I'm guessing there's nothing I can do?
You're pretty much screwed at that point. There is no protection w/F&F because PayPal doesn't get a fee and the transaction is considered a gift.
Bought one from BernardoOne on Gaf, messaged and maybe getting a refund. I told him I'd accept the amount minus the cost for him to refund the $35. I didn't know about the glitch/error on Amazon and thought I was buying a legit key as well. He seems like a good dude, feel bad about him likely taking a hit overall though
Not sure why you should need to take hit. A PayPal refund is free. Just a single button press.
The fact that they can just say "no you're not allowed to own this game anymore" and remove it from your account is pretty scary
That can be done with any digital title that is either:
1) Refunded or
2) Obtained via fraud
Steam is well known for doing this.
I will give you a refund to anyone who got the code revoked from me, just PM me with the info...
Like i said to many of you, i'm working with a etail reseller, the codes dont come from the amazon glitch... but because there is no proof of purchasing i will go with the refund..
Sorry to everyone...
How does that work? If you purchased all the cards via a reseller you should have a proof of purchase to use.
It was $35, and the person I bought it from apparently bought it from someone else first...something I was not aware of. I'm not too happy with his response, because he makes it sound like I'll only see a refund if he gets one from his source first.
We bought from sir_dany. He just told me the same thing again. Its not my problem if he doesn't get a refund. I bought from him and not from whoever he says he bought from.
Edit: and once again, he sends another reply that sounds just as shitty... he says "Maybe other gaffers got it for free, I didn't" as if this is my problem...
It shouldn't be either of your problems. At this point, just file the negative feedback and hope for the best.
Problem for me is I did f/f gift on paypal

can't really do a dispute...I know I know, we shouldn't do that...but I've requested gift myself when I've sold stuff, and I've given them to others without issue...

/sigh
This is the biggest problem right here. When you ignore the PayPal TOS just to save a dollar or two, you're giving up any sort of buyer protection.
