looks like a tablet with a dock
People carry around tablets.

I hope it does perform like a tablet. Nintendo mobile games (released on mobile platforms) should absolutely be playable on this device.

Doesn't look like it does though as they didn't advertise touch, and it would need GPS also.

No touch also means dark days for BC from Nintendo. Funny, as Sony and MS try to converge platform releases touting BC from system to system, Nintendo who was always the BC champion, walks away from it.

Going to make a crazy prediction and say that Mario Kart 8.8 will be the pack in game. It has multiplayer that you can use on one system with both joycons so it uses the unique function of it pretty well.. And I don't think there will be a "Wii Sports" or "Nintendo Land" game with it this time around.

That's not a bad call. I could totally see that. I could actually see Splatoon being that too. Especially if Nintendo is serious about pushing it as an E-Sport, making it a pack-in would go a long way to doing it.

I can't wait to sit on my couch, arms at my sides, using separated joycon L + R controllers like the lazy piece of shit that I am.

Hmm interesting. Mario Kart and Splatoon should be cheap because they look more like 1.5 versions, and they wouldn't tick off their Wii U fans who have to buy almost the same game again. On the other hand. Both these games would guarantee sell another 3 million, so whether the extra console sales would offset that it is a bit of the question.

(I think it would be a good idea though, Nintendo is more helped by selling as many consoles as possible than getting some extra cash)

So i can see them releasing the Switch and Dock together as the only launch sku at 299.99 usd. Then 6 months to a year later release a Swtch Mini [more portable than main Switch, no dock, just HDMI out at 720p Resolution for 199.99 usd. So they release they're Pro first for the main nintendo audience and an entry level one to replace 3ds

Will there be app support? If not, I don't see how this can go up against the super cheap Android tablets that have been owning the market for a few years now.

Also, how easy are those plastic controller rails to break?

This post just made me sad, cuz I realized I'm gonna have to rebuy every single damn game AGAIN

Nintendo VC purchases being tied to your console and not your account across devices is insane. Love Nintendo games, but their network is miles behind. I mean look at friendcodes.

oh fuck off with this

can we all please stop with this shit? seriously it's awful. these people put themselves out there for our benefit and all some of yall can think to do is to constantly shit on them. it wasn't cool in the NX thread about emily rodgers, it's not cool now, and it won't ever be cool. don't care if this sounds soap box-y or whatever because it deserves to be called out. stop with this shit. get this kind of shit out of our collective gaming culture. please.

/rant

Actually I didn't made that comment about blue hair on purpose, that was just like saying, "just because you found a random foul apple under the tree doesn't mean they're all foul" or something like that.

And I wasn't part of that thread with emily rogers, I have no idea what was going on there.

Yes I was not about to continue arguing on that. And yes I admit I may have not done enough research before making some speculations and suggestions.

I just didn't expect the announcement this week I wasn't lurinking for many weeks.

But still you guys focused on the picture instead of my suggestion - I still think my sugesttions are not empty because it's most probably going to have dual band wireless either way if the devkit picture is fake or not. And that's an educated speculation, I suggested that if the devkit is real or close-to-real that those 2 antenna screws should add credence or confirm that.

Infact the announcement was really on time kinda, I just finished major PC maintenance, had to resort, archive like more than 4 terabytes of data that I kept hogging along all messed around for the last 10 years. And that number is just the retained data, a lot of junk deleted. Took a freaking year in total, once you go into it for a few days straight your mind needs to recharge for some days. I guess 3 to 4 months worth of actual work.

"Lady with blue hair" has more credibility than "random anonymous poster on 4chan with no track record whatsoever"

While I would agree, the whole point of no track record is to avoid being hit by lawsuit for breach of NDA, so I'd say 4 and 8chan are double edged swords.

But that's an extreme case, I'd say someone who just came across that didn't even sign NDA doesn't even have any means of defending against a giant company but doesn't want publicity or risk anything either. A wild goose chase.

Hopefully. I learned my lesson with the 3DS to never buy HW on day 1.

Looking at the design and rumors...anyone else think Nintendo might be positioning Switch as a VR device in the future? The current model likely has too low of a PPI to be a great device, but perhaps a Switch 2 in 2019-2020 with a 1080p screen or a dedicated Switch VR version with a smaller screen and thus higher PPI? It just seems like the detachable (motion?) controllers combined with a screen with its own processor and slots designed for securely attaching things (e.g. a headset) could transition into being a VR product really easily.

Personally, I don't think there's anything to discuss. I think this is Nintendo's way of saying "we have a backup plan" to investors and if Switch takes off, they'll quietly cancel the device. If anything, at the most, I think we get a cheaper "portable-focused" version of Switch in the future with perhaps a 4-5" 540p screen and smaller size. "Much later" sounds like "maybe never" to me. Basically, I don't believe Nintendo until they show me otherwise. R&D is probably working on stuff, though, in case Switch bombs. I'm sure they're always planning new products.

I'm 99% sure some sort of 3ds successor is also coming in some form. They'd be okay with losing a large portion of their profits otherwise and that doesn't make sense at all.

This makes no sense to me. One of the best things about the Switch, at least the way I understood
it, is that their market and development will be consolidated and focused on on one platform.

If the dock really doesn't provide any extra processing power then I hope this has an hdmi-out port. It would be way more convenient for trips if I didn't have to transport the dock with me to play games on the TVs at my destination.

Was just thinking how much hasn't been fully revealed yet.

What if the system dock does overclock/cool/add additional processing power when the handheld is in, but that's not the only mode? What if you can stream to the TV wirelessly from the handheld like some rumours suggested in addition? This would enable Mario Maker to work as before and enable touch functionality when docked.

Additionally we know nothing of potential SCDs or cloud processing when docked - which could of course pan out to be nothing, but still, food for thought.

Did anyone notice the huge FPS drops on Zelda when the thing was in mobile mode in the video? What if the mobile part is horrible?

I'd say it's 99.999% certain that any footage we saw of games in use on Switch was video editing. It's most likely that all signs of the system being on (games, lights, etc.) were added. I'm sure those were dummy marketing models. Someone on GAF even did some analysis of the video that showed strong evidence that the game footage had been superimposed onto the device. And even if the footage were indeed actually playing on the device, it would be a video rather than real-time gameplay.

So basically, I don't think there's any reason to worry at this point since we have no idea how the footage was captured. I also don't worry too much about Nintendo games lacking polish until we're at launch day.

Considering the Wii U and even 3DS had support for certain apps (Netflix, Youtube) I would imagine the Switch would be the same.

Will it have full access to a mobile store, presumably the google play store? I doubt that, but it's highly likely you'll see some compatible apps being brought to whatever equivalent of the eshop this has (unless it's again called the eshop haha)

I edited the thread title and made it better

But it doesn't show up on the main site when you click the link

Didnt know that :D

Now I'm kinda annoyed there isn't anything showing the bottom of the Switch. Would clear up some questions I have (how to charge it without the dock, if there's a vent there as well, and any other special things).

I can definitely see them doing a nintendoland with a focus on local multiplayer with shared controllers

I hope and I'm sure the console will get a little cosmetic redesign before it's released. The Pro controller especially looks cheap and nasty.

The more I think about switch the more I like it.

I hope the OS and online are donned right. That's really the only check boxes left to hit.
