Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

The presentation and world-building of these games is something I've always wanted but never thought I'd get.

This is Ohmori's "abundance of life" quote manifest. The way Pokemon actually interact with the human world in logical ways makes Alola the most believable region ever - by an astronomical margin. And the random little details - like Pokemon merch adorning the shelves of the Visitor Center's gift shop - just help tie the whole thing together.

Absolutely loving it so far. Game of the year contender, for sure.

I was wandering through city hall and saw a machoke just wandering around in the bg. So fucking cool.

Pity about the unopenable doors and lack of things to press a on and get a little blurb tho

Anyone figure out the fastest way to max affection in Refresh this time around?

I got Litten and Grubbin right now, too bad nobody else I'm planning to use pops up till Island 2.

This game definitely has me more excited with more focus on the story and all the details in the world. These games are pretty great but I honestly haven't encountered too many of the new Pokémon in the wild and having trouble finding alot of them. Hell I only found Pichu and could not find a Pikachu.

Currently my team is

Primarina
Charjabug
Toucannon
Raichu
Salandit
Marowak

31.5 hours playtime :) not even done with the main story and about to surpass my play time in XY and ORAS...hmm.

Probably going to switch the last 3 out once I get the Pokémon I do want...but I love Charjabug I want a plush of it! :3

Oh man, I was not prepared for the Totem Wishiwashi battle. That was awesome. Love that this game is having some actual challenging moments unlike X/Y.

There are never any downsides to not using Refresh, only upsides to using it. It's mostly intended as something you check out once in a while for variety's sake.

Though, in the future games, I want opposing pokemon in the single player to get some of the effects of Refresh for the sake of Hype. They really tried to replicate the anime in turn based form from those effects and I want more of that flavor.

OK, that's fine. I'll do it occasionally then and not fret about missing the prompt after a battle. Makes more sense for making your Pokemon happy than just running around with them.

I cheated and knew what the first totem pokemon was and had a ringer to take care of business.

That said, in gens past I'd hate wasting EXP on things I'm not keeping in my party. This game I've kinda just been using whatever. I still have no idea what I want to use full time for a party. With no HMs to plan around, I'm at a loss.

Oh yes - all of those 3D pokemon models are being put to excellent use in this game.

And while the game is far from an open-world utopia where every inch is explorable (hang in there for another 20 years, PokeGAF!), it's still a massive step up from anything GF has ever done.

So glad Ohmori is at the helm, even though he's still dropped the ball in a few key areas. My impression of GameFreak has always been "two steps forward, one step back." With Ohmori in Sun and Moon so far, it's been "2.5 steps forward, half a step back"

Still far from the Platonic ideal of what Pokemon games could and should be, but it's certainly much closer than I ever thought we'd be in the year of our lord 2016.

And also, I want to tell PokeGAF that they are probably my favorite community on the whole forum. I've been following PokeGAF since Gen IV, and you all continue to be the best <3

What.

Kiawe's trial was hilarious, although I'm not quite sure how I feel about them as a replacement for gyms so far. Totem Wishiwashi was reasonably tough, but Gumshoos went down in literally one hit from the conveniently placed Crabrawler and the conveniently placed Brick Break TM, and Salazzle fainted very quickly to my Mudbray and his 4x effective Bulldoze.

Bought a n3DS just to play. Forgot these pieces of shits don't come with a charger.

Got home and unboxed before I realized it. And the battery's on 1 bar out of the box just to throw salt in the wound.

:(

I want gyms back. The trails could have been fun and cool but they are simple and just "investigate this, fight thing, go to next one" with slight variations on the "investigate" bit. I prefer trainer battles in gyms to them and then fighting a gym leader rather than one stronger Pokémon who starts with some buffs and then calls in a weak ally.

Plus gyms have (or had) more interesting puzzles (or trials if you will). The idea behind shaking things up is fine but it just feels like they didn't do enough as they all seem to just follow the same formula, like gyms do admittedly, but seem easier even though you can't leave and heal up once in the area.

Now, if gyms were changed to have a puzzle, trainers and then the leader and you couldn't leave then that'd be good.

3rd trial was surprisingly enjoyable. I actually laughed out loud.

Also laughed at finding Gladion in his hotel room. I enjoy his character immensely.

Everything I have is weak to flying type moves :(

I've been throwing Munchlax out there just to tank hits but all he has is Brick Break.

Apologies if it's been covered in this thread already but:

When you go the the Professor's house/lab and up to the loft Lillia is staying in. Your character lays on the bed. "..." "This is where Lillia sleeps" then gets up

Bahaha

So apparently I can't use Pokemon bank to transfer my Yellow version Pokemon to Sun yet, I thought this was the plan wtf?!!

Fuckshit fuck, Amazon said my order of Pokemon Moon will be today at 8PM PST and UPS says the 21st, well its now past 8PM and still no game; a bit angry and not sure who to blame.

I managed to play this for a couple of hours just now.

It's so good that I'm close to tears lol. Honestly it's incredible how the full scale models, rooms, and visible trainers add to the immersion.

So Toxapex's preevo only shows up when you chain Corsola right? And it only shows up in the special fishing spots..lord.

Do we know how much each chain for an SOS Battle will increase the chance of encountering a Pokémon with a Hidden Ability? I'm trying to get a Steadfast Rockruff (Grubbin & Rowlet have flinch-inducing moves but the chances of that effect activating are low) and can't seem to find one.

Also, does inflicting status cause the SOS battle to end? I paralyzed a Rockruff and it wouldn't call for help 20 turns after the status was inflicted..
