Why is this thread so big?

Guess what the game is excellent, I'm playing it. I predict 88-90 MC.

Besides MGSV which I adore dispite it's huge flaws, I say horizon is the best open world game this gen. It has that unique hook (the robots)that makes it stand out, I think it will one of the defining franchises of this gen.

And I am the biggest zelda fan you can think of. You can like both games.

Go through the thread yourself

I just got to page 17 and there's only one example of legitimate trolling on page 15. That's it so far.

Other than that, there's a truckload of "this thread is a disaster", "people already downplaying lol", "why is everyone so salty?" Posts everywhere.
I was here for most of it. I'm just saying it is done and over with.

Well, at least until Monday lol.

But have you played and finished games like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim?

Sounds good. I was precting I think 88 or 89 on Twitter. Scaled back from an initially excited 92.

But I've mostly been ripping on Sony for not announcing a Horizon Pro bundle.

That's what a review is

hmm writing a review should be a proper job, and you should cover as many aspect of the game as you can. graphics, writing, pacing, sound/music (criminally underrated), gameplay, variety of enemies/weapons, minigames, whatever you want. this "review" writes about how much she loves aloy and how cool she is. for example i did this and this, and oh boy she was so cool"
dunno if it qualify as a review for you

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Most movie reviews dont ever go over every single technical, artistic and plot detail in the body of the review and some barely touch at them at all. Nothing wrong with that as they're writing with a different mindset than someone more focused on the technical side of things. Same goes for game reviews, the reviewer takes it on how they like and focuses on what they did or didn't like.

But wasn't the leaked OP review a part of the review?

There is a place for the proper, full (FULL) game reviews, and I feel that's for enthusiasts.

I wouldn't want every single review from every reviewer to be as in-depth as a MatthewMatosis review.

Shit. I made it 60 hours into Witcher 3 before putting it aside, never finished Skyrim, and rarely play games for more than 20 hours. My impressions of Horizon will be completely invalid now

Please relinquish your mod title you noob-ass poser.

Only fake gamers don't finish massive RPGs.

Some games are judged as experiences and that's accepted largely (e.g. Inside) so it's only natural that some reviewers would rather judge games as an experience rather than a technical and audio/visual breakdown.

And there's nothing wrong with that. For a lot of people, the overall experience is worth more to communicate than any individual part.

Just curious... Have you played the Witcher 3? Because that's quite a bold statement there.

Based on impressions, the gameplay is super strong. One of his excerpts from the other thread, tagged but it's just a random encounter/fight while roaming the world
So 20 hours in 32%, I am moving at a snail pace with quests because randomly fighting stuff is so great. So this just happened I found a herd site and noticed
a mountain side with climbable stuff. At the top I see a pearched flying robot! I scan it and see it has a freeze canister so I take out my tear arrows and aim for it's belly, boom, I take that out. I then begin my climb up as it starts to come at me. As I reach each level of the mountain I shoot fire arrows at it, then keep climbing as it tries to attack me. I reach the top it's flying at eye level with me, I hit it again and it falls into a stunned state, I then jump from the top down a few levels for a critical from above attack kill. It felt like a movie.

Then I decided to attack the herd below with fire arrows, I hit their flammable canisters and they all started to blow up in an amazing chain reaction. This alerts some corrupt scrapers, so I jump from the ledge and go slow mo in the air with my arrows hitting it's weak point and then rushing in for a melee kill. It was a series of events that made me feel like such a badass hunter.

I have to advance the story further, I haven't had a new weapon in hours.

The witcher 3 doesn't really have the best open world design imo. It has the best world building and towns, and is the most immersive. I don't expect horizon to surpass that. But in terms of how interesting the world is, horizon wins from the trailers alone.

Sounds awesome!

Witcher 3 is highly overrated.

Not sure why you decided to mention that but okay.

But those alone make it by far the best for me personally. I have no doubt Horizon will excel over it in some of the other aspects though.

Shouldn't we... play it first before saying stuff like that lol

IGN's scoring system is the dumbest shit ever, as is their review in progress nonsense. How is that one of the biggest gaming sites, yikes. What is a 7.8 versus a 7.9?

Yes witcher is super overrated, it has a great open world with a good story but crappy gameplay and it's repetitive as hell. No emergent gameplay, really stiff combat, and lots of boring missions where all you do is follow glowy lines and fight the same stuff over and over.

So yeah I've played witcher. This is better.

Good for you then.

I personally doubt it will be better but I hope to be pleasantly surprised when I play it for myself in March.

If it does then it will be my new GOAT.

Reviews without big numbers at the bottom of the page should be banned.

Also, the numbers should be flashing.

I'd rather reviews didn't have numbers.

People should read reviews, not just the final number.

Can't be a review without a score? Somebody tell the New Yorker!

A review doesn't need a score to be a review. See Eurogamer, RPS, Kotaku, Times, etc.

The only reviews I look at are the ones on meta critic and sometimes the ones on the steam pages.

I read the last paragraph to suss out a verdict but all I saw was stuff about feeelings so I dunno.

When was the last game that had a review embargo drop a week before a game comes out? Feel like most games now a days is like a couple days if not same day.

Seems like a glowing review but I'm still keeping my expectations in check.

Nioh, Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0 were early but not a week early (close).

UC4 was a week early I believe. But yea, most tend to drop a couple days before if not the day before.

This is eight days early. U4 was only five (5/5, release was 5/10)

Kind of impressive that they're giving this a bigger gap than even Uncharted.

Why do people find it difficult to show respect for multiple titles, especially if they're two titles on different systems at similar release times? It's not hard to show mutual respect and enjoy / buy more than one title. Instead we see constant rivalries being falsely created with dumb comparisons and narratives full of stupid...
CautiousDecimalAllosaurus.gif

That don't even make sense.

The days when a game is reviewed or assessed on its own merits, shortcomings and achievements rather than looking at other titles instead will be a good one.

^This. It always turns into a shit flinging nonsense

No he's not the only one
I liked the combat, the world design is unmatched, and the story and characters is excellent, but the static world and the reliance of "follow trail + search inside highlighted area" we're definitely disappointing. But even stil, it's the best fantasy RPG I've played

Since we're on the topic of comparison with early embargoes, I thought I'd pull up my old GDoc list of the few early review embargo games (>3 days) I kept track off and update this year's.

The Last of Us - 9 days
Bayonetta 2 - 10 days
Mario Kart 8 - 14 days
Dragon Age: Inquisition - 7 days
Shadows of Mordor - 4 days
The Witcher 3 - 7 days
MGSV: The Phantom Pain - 8 days
Arkham Knight - 4 days
Super Mario Maker - 8 days
Uncharted 4 - 5 days
Deus Ex: MD - 4 days
Quantum Break - 4 days
Forza Horizon 3 - 7 days
Gears of War 4 - 5 days
Gravity Rush 2 - 8 days
Yakuza 0 - 5 days
Nioh - 5 days
Horizon Zero Dawn - 7 days

here.

No he's not the only one

Yeah, but you'll find folk on this board who'll say that Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, the Last of Us, *insert popular game here* is overrated.

And in 6 months, people'll be saying HZD is overrated.

Point is, once the hype has settled, we'll be able to objectively look at HZD's strengths and weaknesses and rate it against other open-world RPGs' strengths and weaknesses.

OH BOY! Review will posted on Monday @12 Eastern time! All I have to say is that YT does not do this game's visuals justice. Clearly the best looking game thus far, confidently passing Uncharted 4.

NO... its just You.

It was overall an 8/10 for me. I enjoyed Hearts of Stone (easy 9/10) more for being more focused and memorable overall. The depth of Witcher 3's mechanics is uncovered too quickly for how long that game is and the enemy design is pretty weak overall when factoring in Geralt's moveset. Also the balance is bad. There's no good balancing on pretty much any mode, you have to mod the game for that. Still, there are a lot of memorable moments in the writing even if the quest Structure has some weaknesses compared to something like Baldur's Gate 2.

I can believe it, it looks unbelievable in everything beyond facial animations in relation to UC4

The Lost Legacy tho ... *mops brow*
