Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Yeah I'll never forget the one time Nintendo talked about going on GAF. It was Iwata or someone they basically said it was GAF they went on and their first reaction was like "wow we had no idea there was people who cared THIS much about video games" wish I could find the article where he said that.
lol I would love to read that if you ever find it...

Agreed on Jim though. His frankness gets him into trouble. And this one he danced around too much instead of just saying "for various business reasons" like a normal PR dude.

Still though, as you mentioned I don't think I can find anyone IRL that would be upset by Sony's stance and really get up in arms about it. One of a kind this place

I feel really good about Demon's Souls PS4, should Sony ever pursue that.

They'll likely have Bluepoint remake the fucking thing.

*fingers crossed*

Sony first party studios are sure taking their sweet time making these games. Cerny promised us shorter dev times.

Can't really complain since Sony has filled those gaps with third party exclusives.

Huh. Pretty surprised.

Thought Sucker Punch's game would be far along enough to get an announcement and/or trailer. Guess not. PSX it is then.

Also another year, another absence of a certain cel shaded raccoon.

Sony had the best E3 conference, hands down, and still many Gaffers have expressed how disappointed they were with the show...What the hell! The same people who complain that From and Sucker Punch's next project have not been unveiled, would have expressed a similar disappointment later, had both games been presented; Sony would have blown their load for good, and next PSX and E3 would have acted as a simple reminder of already announced titles...

Having the least rotten apple doesn't mean anything. Some people feel the conference sucked and that's okay

Also very concerned about Dreams and the future of Media Molecule.

don't know if it's a matter of too much success too soon, but media molecule, a developer i used to love, has, imo, ended up spending much of the last couple-3 years basically creatively wanking. their fascination/fixation with creating digital tools, rather than an actual game, is just sorta bizarre...

Can we assume Sucker Punch died ?

this's the developer i wanna hear from. first light was released almost 3 years ago...

SP's development is behind Days Gone, so at this rate, I dont think we will see their game until next year.

Well, most of them are working on new ips, so there should be some difficulty there.

I'm guessing PSX is where we will be seeing a lot of stuff like Dreams unless Sony does something at Gamescom or Paris Games Week this year.

because people went in expecting megaton after megaton announcements. when all they did was focus on games and gameplay of the HUGE games they have coming out in the next 8-12 months. boo fucking hoo to those who wanted announcements like the past couple years. if people aren't hyped from what they saw of Spider-Man and GoW, then I got nothing for them. that's also without mentioning Days Gone, SotC etc

Developer founded to make creative games has fascination with creating digital tools? You don't say.

My major disappointment was no Dreams other than I had a blast with all the conferences really. I'm looking for a switch now, knack 2, matterfall,Gt sport, uncharted LL and ni no kuni got me mad hyped and ready to be played I'm satisfied

Yeah, is almost like they don't want to release a buggy and broken game. Maybe they really want to try and make the best it can be.

Man, isn't it kinda crazy that SSM first PS4 title is almost 5 years into the gen. That cancelled title really hurt SSM and Sony first party output so far. Then again mm, quantic dream and polyphony are also in that bucket. This gen has not been kind to Sony first party developers. 3 years should be the ideal length between games for studios with maybe an extra year for like new ip.

Eh SSM release a game in 2013 and so did QD and PD.

Even without expecting megatons it was still a mediocre show. Where was Media Molecule? Why was their only big first party announcement a remake? Why did they bring the same lineup as last year, but still without release dates?

The best thing I can say about their show was that PSVR was represented very well. PSX better be mindblowing this year.

Don't do this to yourselves yet again

Still angry you didn't get DMC huh?

This isn't accusing anyone here but I would be willing to bet if Dreams was shown yesterday, there would be more than enough people asking "what do you exactly do in this game?" and asking Sony to move onto the next video lol.

the only thing disappointing about the conference was no Sucker Punch IP reveal

I'm still shocked Super Massive is creating 3 exclusives when people said they were going multiplat. So pumped for Hidden Agenda and I hope they eventually make a Until Dawn 2. I'm dissapointed Inpatient(Until Dawn prequel) is VR only because I don't plan on getting a PSVR.

Not sure why people think sucker punch is dead lol. People need to relax, new IPS take time - will most likely be revealed at PSX

I got Horizon: Zero Dawn on my way, should be here on Friday. And after that I just gotta order The Last Guardian and LittleBigPlanet 3 and I will be owning every single Sony first party title. I'll be anticipating Gran Turismo Sport later this year hopefully, and meanwhile get Wipeout Omega Collection too. Can't wait for all of Sony's currently announced games to come out, so I can wait on Sucker Punch to reveal their project. Really not in a hurry here.

So, hypothetical scenario... PS5 launches holiday 2019.. what 1st party games could Sony have releasing around that window?

-TLoU2 / Naughty Dog Straley game?
-Bloodborne 2
-Death Stranding
-Horizon II
-Ready at Dawn game
-SuckerPunch IP?

Good luck to all at #E3 this week! No E3 for us as we are busy tapping away, getting ready to share more about #DreamsPS4 later this year!

definitely sounds like a big PSX re-reveal is coming

I think Dreams could have benefitted from being shown. If they were going to commit to just First Party games shown with minor third party, then besides excluding Kojima and TLOU2, go all the way.

But I also agree when they show it, it needs to be shown right, and E3 might not be the best place for that.

The 4 surprising absences for me were
Sucker Punch- means more time in the oven. Second Son felt rushed.
Pixel Opus- This can't be a Entwined scaled game if it's been 3 years since their last game, right?
Manchester Studio- Kind of concerning we haven't seen anything from them yet.
Wild- Looks even worse when Beyond Good and Evil 2 was revealed 2 hours before.

When did he say that?

I remember the triangle thing being quicker and general development being made easier (it was a nightmare on PS3). That is all true but the scope and scale of games has only become larger so it somewhat cancels out. Creating a new IP that is open world is still going to take a ton of time.

I'm probably the only person who enjoyed Sony's conference, thought it was the second best (after Ubisoft) but first best in regards to how many games shown that I want to buy. Was also expecting Sony to mainly just do a "follow-up" to the last two conferences which is why my expectations were low and enjoyed the conference more than most.

If PS5 ends up being BC with PS4 games then the only scenario would be which of these games will be a PS5 only title. TLOU 2, Sucker Punch and Death Stranding will be PS4's swan songs for sure. While the rest might end up being PS5 only games.

Seems Sony might be spread a bit thin from a big show/media to content ratio perspective. Even with all of their studios and exclusives having enough new content to fill E3, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, and PSE must be difficult.

At some point it had to catch up to them (this E3 for example). I can't help but think they might benefit from reducing their annual shows (no gamescom) or reallocating one of them to focus on VR only or something like that.

Side Note- The magnificently beautiful Colossus Remake makes me want Jak 1-3 Remakes and God of War Remakes with similar treatment. Please make these happen Sony!!!

I've assumed they're done with Gamescom, but now I'm worried they're doing a Gamescom this year. If there is a Gamescom, right now nothing's confirmed with SIEE, but that might be our answer to where some of the First Party stuff went if they have a conference there.

Last year they didn't do a Gamescom or PGW.

Their schedule is also pretty full. At this point they might be deciding if certain games should be early 2019 on PS4 or holiday 2019 for PS5. They probably don't want to announce something for current gen and then move it to next gen later.

I would imagine we will see at least some 2019 games releasing with PS4 and PS5 versions. Depending on the direction Sony take with their hardware those games might even end up on the same disc. Too early to tell.

I still think less shows or more specialized ones would be a good thing from a media/marketing perspective.
