Regarding tax reform, remember that in the recent house polls done, all of those districts had approval of the tax bill at around 30 approval 48 disapproval. And those districts tended to be slightly republican leaning too. That's terrible terrible approval for a tax cut. Everyone is supposed to love tax cuts.

To be specific, the reason whataboutism is a fallacy is that a statement is frequently divorced from the person or thing stating it. The statement that Russia (as a state, not necessarily every person there) is evil (that is, is guilty of the things you listed here) does not become more or less valid because the West says it. To argue otherwise is actually textbook whataboutism.

Please, please, please read about these conflicts before posting. The US and Al-Qaeda are tacitly allied in most of the Middle East, because Al-Qaeda works closely with out Saudi Allies and because we support their brutal sectarianism as long as it weakens Iran's influence. Similarly in Syria, we have directly provided aid to Al-Qaeda affiliates because our government is more willing to tolerate a brutal theocracy than a secular government that's friendly with Iran and Russia.

America's naked aggression and clumsy interventions and equally clumsy isolationisms, are all very bad. But at least they're happening in the open. the insidious villainy of Russia is amplified and obscured by US politicians who benefit from it and by a small core of voters too stupid and racist to detect that they're being manipulated.

But none of that stops Russia from being not only villainous, but absolutely destructive to its own people and economies.

America being bad does not mean Russia isn't. And Russia is bombing civilians and rebels in Syria, to answer your initial question. To maintain a murderous regime that happens to be convenient to Putin's actual imperial desires.
