An update. Its something.

We know PS5 is not cancelled.

Also, sounds like theres no PS5 "event". Just a bunch of online stuff dropping randomly.

The longer it takes the better for Sony.
Sony still has a lot of exclusives coming for PS4, so probably they fear a PS5 reveal will take some steam off PS4 software sales.
Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII R and TLOU2 are on their way very soon.
i predict a full reveal near E3 or even Gamescon, not sooner. Maybe only the controller, like it happened with PS4 in 2013
all they need to do is annouce these games will have upgrades when running on ps5 and there shouldn't be an issue.

Doesn't it read like it was supposed to go live back in October when the second wired article was up, with official name of the next gen system and few features like the User experience, controller and few more tid bits. Also there's no newsletter sign up link in that page so something's definitely not all right with it.

Would you buy TLoU2 for full price at launch in May or at 50 % off in November if that was the case? Because most people do not play the same game twice, it's either on PS4 or on PS5.

What second Wired article? The second info dump happened on the Playstation blog.

We already know ps5 has backward compatibility. Death stranding was coming to pc and people bought it on ps4. Day one buyers usually want to experience the game as soon as possible.

I meant uncertainty with the reveal cycle of their products. You know you are getting a new revision every year. you know the month. you know the release date.

Apple is secretive, but they have a set schedule and their fans are never uncertain about their product reveal cycles. Sony's PR, messaging and communication has been piss poor for close to two years now.
Agreed that Sony has been horrible at communication with their fans lately. They're back to being a bit arrogant, we've seen this in cycles over the years. And honestly, this silence is probably mostly strategic (waiting to be certain about XsX/Lockhart pricing/launch window/specs) before they show their hand.

I don't see it mattering too much though. I think all they really need to decide is whether the PS5 is going to be $399 or $499 at launch, I'm sure everything else is set in stone by now.

This reminds me of last gen when Sony announced the console in Feb and caught MS off guard. IIRC, MS spent the next three months preparing for a reveal and had like one game to show. A CG from Quantum Break.

This time around, the table seem to have turned. MS has revealed a console. showed off a next gen only game and a cross gen game. Meanwhile Sony is MIA cancelling E3 conferences left and right, havent held a psx in three years, they are revealing logos instead of specs or games, and just seem unsure of their whole strategy. I wouldnt be surprised if there is some truth to the 9 tflops rumors because if their console was indeed so much better they wouldve revealed the specs by now in a wired article. Also, another reason why they arent revealing the specs in a wired article is probably because they want the games to lessen the blow of a 9 tflops console. their CFO said today that they are waiting for MS to reveal the specs and price so they can price accordingly. its way too late to do any of that. unless they have made a weak 9 tflops console for $499 and are wondering just how ms got their console to run at 12 tflops. i wouldnt be surprised if cerny got too cute like he did with the pro and put all of his eggs in the ssd basket like he did with the pro thinking checkerboarding hardware would be enough to mitigate the tflops difference.

I dont know. this doesnt feel like a company that was so confident last gen. they were absolutely cut throat with their messaging and had no issues revealing their specs and tflops count. no exec watched that sony conference and came out thinking we shouldnt ever embarrass our competitor like that again next gen. it took them 6 months to clarify if the ps5 indeed had hardware RT. They sat on their asses while github leaks made it up to IGN and other major gaming outlets. they sat their while MS revealed their console and bragged about setting the bar right in front of their lead designer and head of worldwide studios. they laughably showed off a last gen looking game in godfall. it doesnt feel like the same company.

of course, they could release a wired article showing a 13 tflops console with hbm tomorrow and make me look like a fool, but as of today this isnt looking good for sony.

the other recent rumor said ps5 was a Tflop or less lower than X series top model, but had more and faster ram. If true that wouldn't be that bad.

Sony: Welcome to 2020

Everyone: PS Meeting in February!

Sony: Oh, y'all thought we meant PS5 reveal in February?.

EU? I'll wait for US.
US one is in your face, big letters and everything, plus you can sign up to get notified.

The page was created in the past 48 hours as that's when I last checked, so things are moving along slowly but surely.

OP now have both UE and US links. UE link is not showing the option to sign up anymore, while the US link is doing normal.

Wording says they're not ready to fully unveil next gen.

Considering they're also telling people to sign up for updates, we might not have a big event any time soon and instead have small pieces of info given over time via wired/SoP

I concur with most of the people in here, I need to know what the plastic box I'm going to buy at the end of the year looks like RIGHT NOW, otherwise I won't buy it.
If the ps5 has the design of the ps4 with poor air cooling im not buying one at launch you miss the whole reason why people care about seeing what the box looks like. if the system has games that I dont care about im not buying one.

You'll still be able to do that. Being able to do that in July is no different to doing it in February. People are just overly thirsty for the next thing even though the PS4 still has a slew of heavy-hitters yet to release.
If this thing sales out scalpers are going to be the ones with the majority of them charging $200+ markup on them just like the ps4 if I cant pay MSRP for one im not breaking my neck to own one until there at the MSRP value

the game is going to drop like a rock in price anyways after the 1st 2 weeks of release anyways you could pick up any sony exclusive for Half price in a month and even less if you use the used game market

All of the leaks are bullshit. If you haven't realized that I don't know what to tell you. We've heard 100 different things in the last two months.

No, but it would be nice to be amongs the first to pre-order so you're guaranteed to get it day 1.
Day 1 buyers are like test dummies. I've never regretted more than buying the PS3 at launch. It came with YLOD. There was nothing to do (resoldering the apu, getting new transistors for the motherboard, you name it). Lesson learned. Bought my PS4 3 months after release and it works wonders (just had to change the thermal paste after a good cleaning on the heatsink).

With all those "leaks", I'm starting to believe neither of the console will use Ryzen CPU, instead, they both will use quantum processors, that can be both more and less powerful at the same time!
