Even though the list isn't even close in terms of variety and quality, the fact that you can play Xbox "exclusives" on a PC day one makes the entire thread pointless with Xbox One vs PS4 in the title.

This is basically a "what if" thread if there was an actual universe where Xbox One games were true exclusives. They're not, and you can take Horizon and whatever Sony exclusives off that list too that are on PC outside of streaming bullshit.

Nevertheless, you Forgot Spider Man, Ratchet & Clank, few Japan Studio games and a few PSVR games. Bottom line, it's a slaughter in favor of Sony. Nintendo would be second and Microsoft is a distant third.

We are only including AAA First-party games made ONLY by studios owned by Microsoft and Sony at the time of their release, as that would show just how well they are managing their properties without a third-party helping them out. Remasters wouldn't count as AAA since it's just enhancing an existing game, but remakes with good production count as AAA. Based on the reports during the years of its development I will give TLG to Sony under this category, because despite its looks, it is an AAA production that just went badly.

Here are the games released this gen that follow the above criteria:

When you look at both lists you see two companies aiming for entirely different audiences which I find fascinating. But I have to be upfront with you, I really think both Sony and Microsoft dropped the ball this generation in regards to direct first-party studio development.

to be fair most of sony games might as well be. 3rd person cinematic action adventure games with relatively similar style and intended audience.

90% of the games out there are third-person action games. Sony is just too good at making characters and cut scenes look and play believable.

I think it's because you included so many qualifiers and caveats, most of which seem aimed at making it a more even contest. And people are going to get grumpy when you ask then to talk about something they are passionately interested in and then say that their favorites (Bloodborne, Spiderman, etc.) don't count because reasons. Then, on top of that, to make the mistake of including the Forza games in violation of the rule that excludes those favorites, well, can you see why they might think the thread was made to favor Xbox?

I assumed you were just trying to keep things even for the sake of a more interesting discussion, but I get why people would look at what you've done here and see someone trying to tilt the scales to achieve a certain conclusion.

EDIT: I'd be curious to know what the point of this comparison was anyway. Are we trying to determine who has offered more to gain some insight into next gen? If so, I think a straight-up comparison of exclusives or else published games might be more useful. Not sure why whether they are a wholly-owned subsidiary or just a contract studio would matter. *shrug*

While a lot of Sony's output wasn't my cup of tea (Uncharted, Killzone, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Infamous, Drive Club) and a lot of my most anticipated titles fell a little flat but were still good (Last Guardian, Everybody's Golf, Gran Turismo Sport), they still offered some nice surprises (God Of War, Astrobot). That beats out Forza Horizon which is the only game that interests me from Microsoft's output. And as much as I love that series, I fell off of FH4 pretty quickly as the series is feeling really stale.

Horizon 2 was from this gen, it also had a 360 version which was a different game compared to currant gen one

Because instead of the meme Halo Gears Forza, the op is saying "Gears, Forza, and we'll occasionally add something else once in awhile."

Everyone knows Microsoft got more help from "third" parties than Sony, and why is Gears Ultimate on the list when Epic helped out with it? It's also not a AAA game, it was done in less than 2 years and is mostly a remaster.
