Which is another problem with the show. The brutality of the game is SO understated in the series, such that the "To what lengths would you go for her?" doesn't really come up. By this point in the game, you've killed so much that it starts to wear you down.

But then it all becomes so clear and righteous at the end.

If he goes on a rampage over the next two episodes, it'll feel out of nowhere, I fear.
 
This show is only getting better, I loved this episode (love me some dead malls though). The Henry and Sam arch was definitely the weakest, those two episodes were the only ones I felt were alright at best.

6 > 7 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 5 > 4

I can actually see the hospital scene being a complete bloodbath which would make sense since it shows how much he has come to care about Ellie and how that love has driven him to the paternal rage we see in the game. The show has gone to lengths to show that Joel is not the same man that he was when his actions gave Tommy nightmares. When he is confronted with the possibility of losing another daughter it could easily bring the old Joel back out.

It will be the subject of a lot of water cooler debates that next monday.

We have wildly different opinions, imo episode 5 was the best. And 3 was the worst.
 
I'm not a fan of the DLC but I actually think it was a nice adaptation into a TV episode.

Episode 3 remains by far the worst episode.

Yeah, you definitely don't get it

#1 Kathleen's story in season 1 is going to act as thematic building blocks for season 2 particularly two specific character's drive for revenge i.e. the two main characters, that you thought I was referring to Isaac means you didn't get it

#2 Again, Kathleen is well aware of the danger posed, she just doesn't care. Nothing matters if Henry escapes alive. There were people who played TLOU2 who still wanted revenge in the end and Kathleen is a larger warning for viewers against this theme

#3 Doesn't matter that he was a doctor. The fact is he was a collaborator and was actively hiding Henry... This idea people kept pushing that he was someone with normal standing in the community isn't justified.

I don't think it will be at all. We've heard the entire time that he's capable of more than what we've been shown (not just from him, but essentially everyone we've met up with who knew Joel before the events of the show), but unlike the game where that plot point is at odds with the gameplay, I think it'll make a hell of a lot more sense to see him snap in the show. He clearly doesn't want to be that person anymore and when we meet up with him and Tess, he doesn't need to be. They live in the QZ, and as shitty as it might be they're long past needing to kill to survive. Unlike in the game, his age clearly effects him more in the show; he's no Rambo.

We saw a glimpse of ye olde Joel in the first episode when he beat the guard to death, and the next episode should push him further than that moment ever did.

That being said, I've always been a fan of less is more, so I don't need to see Joel massacring people every episode. Show me that once, have it be good, and it'll be far more effective than showing that to me throughout 8 or 9 episodes and having that impact wear off by the time it really matters.

1. I know which two characters these are but neither of them are in charge of an entire community. If you look at it Maria who was in charge of a community had her doubts about seeking revenge because the well being of Jackson came first.

2.This shows that she is a bad leader. If you doom your own community over one person you are a bad leader.

3. He was a collaborator but he also had skills and know how that would have saved many other lives.

Maria was never all that interested in revenge. Was never personal for her. All the characters for whom revenge is personal for in TLOU2 are driven by revenge while ignoring everything else and it comes at the cost of everything else. They're no different from Kathleen, simply because she was in charge of something. The followers of Kathleen are just as guilty as she is and are just as bent on revenge.

She is bad leader. No one suggests otherwise. The point of Kathleen isn't whether she is a good or bad leader though. The point of her is the cost of revenge above all else. The cost of focusing on the wrong things.

Yeah, that really doesn't matter if he has the skills. First, you don't even know what kind of doctor he is, particularly because that's outside the point. His experience of analogous to nazi germany and the french hiding jews, in this case the doctor was jewish. This group putting on a hunt disregards the qualifications of an individual. Being a doctor wasn't going to save you against the nazis in ww2 and it wasn't going to save you here. That's kind of the point.
 
I might actually prefer the show's version of Riley, loved her, knocked the role out of the park. Acting was just great all around, I really bought the relationship between the two girls. I saw flashes of Part II Ellie in Bella during the fight with the stalker (?). The Mortal Kombat II machine was cool, I remember playing the Super Nintendo version when I was a kid. Though I do wish there there was a horde chasing them around the mall instead of a single infected but eh. It was nice seeing a lot of the stuff rom the mall in the game like the arcade, the Halloween store, the photo booth, the masks, etc. But I gotta say, dancing with the masks on was a bit strange, whose idea was it to make them do that lol.

The casting was spot-on. Storm Reid was a slam dunk in the acting department which is what matters at the end of the day. And she's hardly a giant at 5'7", Bella Ramsey is just short af so the other actors tend to tower over her. The actress that is rumored to play Dina is taller than her too.

Truth. the world in the show doesn't feel dangerous at all as everything has been dialed down to the bare minimum. The Pittsburg ambush which in the game was a big turning point showing how the remaining people out there were more dangerous and scary than the infected could ever be, in the show it was turned into trashy "freedom fighters" with a weak leader looking for revenge.

ive been playing MK games for 28 years and have managed to pull off a total of 3 fatalities in my life.

The reason this show is only 9 episodes, and stuff feels rushed, is because its Season 1 of a brand new series.

On a brand new show, you don't know if it's going to be successful. So Networks always order minimal amount of episodes for a shows first season. This is just how it works for cable.

Walking Dead Season 1 was 6 fucking episodes. Season 2 was 13. Then the rest were 16. We are lucky we got 9. That shows faith.

You have to earn more episodes. The fact that S2 was confirmed so early, means we are practically guaranteed 13+ for Season 2. Bet on it. The shows earned it.


Im just gonna post this again. Race swapping ain't new. People just have to get used to it. Tons of fictional characters have been turned from one race to another. From black to white. White to black. Brown to Yellow. Green to Orange.

The most unrealistic part for me was Wongs office being in a state of disrepair with his working desk covered in dust while the arcade was near immaculate and full of functioning games.

It wasn't Riley's first time playing.

She also knew the moves in the game... without seeing the actual screen.

Jokes aside, that was probably Bella Ramsay's best acting on screen to date.
 
I got to say, as much as I liked this last week's Left Behind episode, I think it ran long. I enjoyed the pacing in the game better where the game went back and forth between past and present. I thought maybe it was just me, but my wife, who has never played the game and knows very little about it, was able to predict "Oh, this is how she finds out she's immune and her friend dies, right? We're not going to spend the entire episode on a character that's going to die, are we? Can't we just get to present day?"

I'm now worried about the next two episodes. There's just not enough time to really give the remaining story the time it needs. And I really feel like the brutality of the world has been seriously glossed over. We hear about how bad things are, but we haven't seen much of it. And not seeing how the world's falling apart is going to undercut Joel's actions at the end.

TLOU is similar to MGS4 in that from the middle to the end the game is mostly gameplay set pieces between cutscenes, which are the main focus.

There's plenty of time, David's appearance is pretty much the last thing before the ending anyway and Spring is really short in the game too...
 
Started off strong but each episode has gotten worse imo

So many fights and moments missing from the game that showed what Ellie and Joel went through and how it strengthen their bond, the show has had almost no action and feels rushed at times.

They didn't need an entire episode for the left behind DLC.

The lack of brutality is also missing to show how gritty the world is.

So the next episode is 50mins it will show Ellie getting medicine for Joel, then lured in by David and captured. Joel recovering and saving her from the attempted rape.

I hope the last episode is like 1hr 20mins. They need to show them arriving at the new city, seeing the giraffe's, discovering the fireflies, Joel's rampage to save Ellie, killing that doctor and their escape before the ending where he lies to her.

Should be enough time to pull it all off
 
That was a damn good episode. A well told story with great acting which was needed to solidify the bond between Joel and Ellie. My only hope for the next episodes is that they really start to show what lengths Joel will go to save Ellie. They better not skip the torture scene.

Hmm you are right, my bad.
For reason I thought there was more to come. I have to admit that I haven't played Part 1 in a while though so that might be the reason why memory is a bit foggy.

I'm really curious how they're going to adapt part 2 even if they split it into two seasons (which they have to do unless they want to cut a lot)

It's a choice. It's been said in interviews that a lot of actions would be repetitive fast in a TV series, as opposed to the game where it's more common gameplay arc.

But it literally has almost no action.

It's completely diluted the storyline, they go through so much together in the game and it showed the brutality and how their bond strengthens.

Just doesn't click for me in the show.

The impact of violence is higher if it doesn't happen all the time.
 
Another slow as fuck boring episode....
If my wife didn`t want to know how the story ended I´d have dropped this with episode 6 at the latest.
I´m seriously considering just spoiling her to get out of watching this slog.

Last episode is about an hour long but should hopefully be just about enough time.
 
i think i made a mistake finishing up my replay of Part 1 recently, i was stopping as i got to TV show as i did play it originally but never replayed it so there was many details i forgot about... made this episode just far too similar and slow as i was really just checking for any changes they made and hoping there was more to the episode then just the DLC
 
I wonder how close the franchise is to 50 million sales now.

Was at 37 mil before the show released and the Remastered, Part 1 and Part 2 have been all over PSN and Amazon sales charts since.

Someone else here mentioned the last episode is about 40 minutes.
 
It was good don't get me wrong, but when the show does not have that many episodes, I don't really think they can do the rest in like (?) 90 minutes. I just want more of that core story. I started to really like Pedro and how he really "become the Joel" in last episode (I mean as an actor). And yeah. Still this shows is like 9/10, but I am getting anxious about the remaining footage length, maybe because I want more.

Chernobyl and just 5 episodes sucked too. BTW

I can only say I feel sorry for those who play videogames on a daily basis and experienced TLOU with this TV series.
It's the royal fuck-up I can possibly think of.
