Yeah, I don't know. It's fine, but it feels like emotional bait. It's trying so hard, all the time. It's trying to give birth, but there is no baby!
And I still feel like Bella Ramsey has the emotional weight of a codfish.
I sort of like it, but it's like 85% there and the rest is either cringe or forced, with some plotholes and liberties taken in ways they shouldn't be taken.
It's gonna be a successful first season, but man, I hope Neil Druckman and the crew is ready for the hate because they are gonna get blasted when they move into the second season and the show falls apart with no Pedro.

What a dumb ending, so nobody there noticed there was a raging inferno, as Ellie and Joel slowly and safely walked away towards…. A body of water?

Yeah I liked the show early on but more and more I'm liking it less. They rushed too much shit. Maybe if they spent less time on two men fucking in bed and put more time into stuff that mattered it would've been better. How do you not have Joel come grab her while she's chopping David up? How did no one else in the town see the fire? So dumb

The game did the ending part a lot better. The show part felt devoid of emotion IMO. I don't think it was bad, but in the game it brought you to the brink of tears and it just didn't in the show. It felt anticlimactic.

Every single scene that was in the game is worse in the series. I was enjoying the original stuff, because I dont have something to compare to. But when the show tries to replicate the game, the bad acting and scene composition shows it true colors.
Why the fuck they didnt show Joel seeing the fire from a distance? And then show him stopping Ellie? It was so much more impactful in the game.
Joel didnt enter the restaurant. So he doesnt have a clue what happened there.
They ruined what was probably the best cutscene in the game after the ranch scene 'cause ... reasons. I dont understand why.
PS: The show really wanted you to know that David was a pedofile with much more dialogue. Maybe they didnt trust the actor to deliver in terms of acting. In the game, Nolan North did more with less, just because he is a great actor that could tell the whole story just by the voice acting.

He’ll be in it. There’s a shit-ton of flashbacks in the game and also the twenty years of flashbacks from after his daughter died.. all the things he and Tommy did that we as gamers always wondered about - another two seasons worth actually. So Pedro can and will be dead but in the next two seasons

I disagree, it was exactly like the game without the dumb game bits of fighting people in a storm. I actually thought David was better here than in the game, more believable with his religious manipulation.
This was very well done.

It seems that the series focus is mainly on the non-gamer population, it will impress them a lot and a few will start the games and will be blown away by them.
A lot of gamers that already finished both games will be disappointed too, but I reckon Neil already expects that.

I was fine with it until the ending. The reason the game had such a more emotional impact was when Joel goes in to stop Ellie from hacking him, he sees her in the moment and can relate to her pain. Having her stumble out of a building having no idea what went on inside is much less relatable to him from an emotional perspective. Plus the game had the nice touch with the emotional music and Joel whispering to her without audio, that was almost Lost in Translation like. I really hoped they would have adapted it the same.

I'm not going to be happy. That would really hurt the ending for me IMO.

the way the ending is done with you not knowing if Joel lets Ellie go with Marlene or not, and changes the car scene where you aren't sure if she's in the car with him or not

I don't understand why they change things like the ending with David. The game scene is such an emotional and intense scene. The show just has them meet outside for a few seconds and walk away in the snow lol

As usual, another good episode. Some things I like more than the game, and some things weren't done as well here.
Was cool seeing Troy Baker get to play James. And David's actor did a good job as the creep.

Episode was very good. Bella Ramsey crushing this role. I love how they are making her more violent and bitter in the show. It will the make the transition to season 2 much easier

I think they coulda spent a little more time showing joel getting healthier… it was like…pennicilin in. 12 hrs later still looks dead. Next scene hes spry and killing.
The lack of infected across the series hurts for me. I dont even need to see them alive, just more of a presence in the world. David and crew made zero reference to infected concerns etc. only thing he said was how it made him find god.
I woulda like to see ellie use the bow, at least for the hunting scene.
Joel calling her baby girl, felt a bit forced and out of place. Think they shoulda handled that better too
Side note on e7 - they used the mycelium narrative for one cordy to alert others… my two issues with that are:
1. Was pointless. No reason they couldnt have just as easily been attacked by a cordy without the “phoning home”.
2. If the cordy is talking thru its network it wouldnt send just one lone cordy. It woulda and should been a pack

- It's an adaption that sticks closely to the original story.
- Their acting might not be as good as Ashley and Troy, but it's still very good.
- Scenes being slightly different doesn't bother me at all.
- I can understand that moments are going to be sped up as they're trying to tell a 15-20 hour story in just 11 hours.
- If I wanted the story from the game, then I'll play the game. lol.
Imagine if they made a movie and they tried to tell the story in just under 3 hours.

This is how I feel too, it feels like a lot of complaints are from people that seemingly don't understand that an adaptation isn't going to be a 1:1 copy.

I agree with some of your points here, more scenes with the infected would've made it so much better but this episode was still a great 9/10 for me

I think this will ultimately be my sentiment when all is said and done. And that's a good thing.
The game is an all time masterpiece, so no version of a tv show could match it on all counts.
Where I think the show excels, is how it can show different perspectives that really couldn't be done in the video game. In the game, you are stuck with Joel or Ellie's point of view.
People need to understand that the show doesn't 'overwrite' the game : it's an alternate universe. Both have their strengths.
Looking forward to next week's final episode. It'll surely generate quite the dialog from viewers and talks about Joel's actions.

If anything, the only complaint I had of the episode was actually the opposite of this. The ending was fine, but I wouldn't have minded another 5-10 minutes near the beginning of Ellie getting to know David. I think that short bit of time you spend fighting infected with him in the game made what came after a bit more impactful because at least in that moment he felt like a decent enough guy. In the show, he pretty much revealed his true colors right off the bat.

I think this is fair. Overall it's a different take and should be treated as such. Both the show and game can exists. I just can safely say at this point I enjoyed the game's story much more.

Yeah I don't recall the ending to TLOU1 being divisive at all. There were people that argued Joel did a bad thing, but there weren't people that hated the ending. Especially in comparison to TLOU2's opening.

Wrong. Played both games. Have enjoyed the show as well as the games. Some things people bitch about are just so unrealistic to do on a TV show without being 24 episodes.

Well that's what I mean. There were arguments about whether or not Joel did the right or wrong thing, but as far as reception to the ending was concerned it was pretty positive.

Good news is the game isn't changed. Its still right there for us all to play.
Ultimately I'm just glad this has been a well made adaptation that will help the game and IP get new fans. Sell more copies and all that

Played both games a couple of times each. The series is fantastic. Bella in particular has been incredible, especially in the past 2 episodes.
My only gripe with the show is that I want more of it, but then you run the risk of having a Walking Dead-type situation where the story of David's group would have been stretched out for an entire season.

Seriously, it’s like adaptation is a foreign concept to some people. TV and games are different media. It was never going to be 1:1 but both the game and the show are great in their own rights
