Time to start adding the accolades to the full screen ad.

Hmmm, weird. I'm in the US so I've been expecting it, but nothing. I do remember the Starfield full screen popup, but I was already playing it so just closed it. I don't think I ever got one for Forza either???
I never had either of the other two. But I did have them preinstalled or ready to go when released. That might be why. I dont have any ads or an explore tab at all on my PS5... For me MS are pushing their luck. I miss the days of my X1X, I wont lie.Not sure what the criteria is.
No CoD ad on my Xbox, but the PS5 dash always has a CoD ad when I boot either console.
I didn't get the Starfield or Forza ads either, but then again I already had the Starfield premium upgrade so I wasn't the target there ?
This thread is about a tile that literally covers the entire screen and overlaps literally everything until you interact with it.A picture you can skip in a millisecond. A tile that does not overlap anything else or play sound automatically.
The internet is plastered with ads and Xbox still has one of the most unintrusive ads on the internet.
A picture you can skip in a millisecond. A tile that does not overlap anything else or play sound automatically.
All that is so far from the bad stuff you encounter everywhere else, but people like to hate on this for whatever reason.
Yes, and as we know from Gold, and PS+ everyone will follow. Pay for online was Xbox only and now it's all 3. Pay for subscription with games was PS only and now it's all 3. Microtransaction was Oblivion only, now it's virtually everything.Your not defending an Xbox game, feature or hardware. Your defending ads. Take that console war bs somewhere else.
We are looking at patient zero of an ad apocalypse. We need stop this shit here and now.Yes, and as we know from Gold, and PS+ everyone will follow. Pay for online was Xbox only and now it's all 3. Pay for subscription with games was PS only and now it's all 3. Microtransaction was Oblivion only, now it's virtually everything.
This is an issue for everyone that plays games.
It can sit in your subconscious mind. Then you go to the store and you may grab a brand you saw advertised a month earlier and have no actual awareness of what pushed you over the edge. It doesn't work on everyone, but with the amount of money they spend on ads the richest corporations in the world are all convinced it's worth it.serious question: when was the last time looking at an ad convinced you to buy something that you, up to that point, had no interest in buying?...
i've always been convinced that advertising, particularly internet-related advertising, doesn't actually influence people nearly as much as all these corporations have become convinced it does. & that it's all, to a very large extent, a massive scam being run by advertising firms & public-relations departments...
It works much better than you think or companies wouldn't splash as much money in it as they doserious question: when was the last time looking at an ad convinced you to buy something that you, up to that point, had no interest in buying?...

um, yeah, this's exactly the kind of edward bernays based bullshit that all these advertisers & pr people spout & most definitely want you to believe. but where's the data establishing that it's based on fact? particularly in an age when, thanks to the internet, even max headroom's blipverts have been surpassed & peoples attention span's been reduced to negative numbers?...It can sit in your subconscious mind. Then you go to the store and you may grab a brand you saw advertised a month earlier and have no actual awareness of what pushed you over the edge. It doesn't work on everyone, but with the amount of money they spend on ads the richest corporations in the world are all convinced it's worth it.
I would be willing to bet there is some sinister psychological data about the subconscious impact of exiting out of a forced ad manually, triggering some subconscious emotion of "I just denied myself something" that sticks in your brain and strikes later.
You don't have to interact with a trailer. You can go late. Those trailers also suck and tons of people have stopped going to theaters entirely. You don't click 1 button while watching a trailer to spend $100. The trailers don't magically surprise you when you're doing other things and block you from accessing it until you acknowledge and interact with it.
Also appears when you exit a Steam game, and it's done that since I started using Steam in 2011.To be fair, upon launch on steam you do get a popup of a bunch of ads for discounted games or new games
I don't think it's so much people who are pushing back on criticism of this, are arguing against the right to complain, but more so this notion that not being outraged by a forced ad on a plastic toy equates to being naive, and being outraged means you're a sophisticated intellectual.
It wasn’t a demo but a FTP (Free-to-play) version of SingStar.IIRC, unless you previously purchased singstar songs, all you could access were 1 minute demos. I have no qualms with demos (advertisements for games) being pre-installed on a console, but I have never heard someone describe a demo as a free game.
you don''t think that corporate greed alone could convince them to believe things that they want to believe? such as that internet advertising actually works? well, think again:It works much better than you think or companies wouldn't splash as much money in it as they do
Plenty of studies to prove it
When P&G turned off $200 million of their digital ad spending, they saw NO CHANGE in business outcomes [1]. When Chase reduced their programmatic reach from 400,000 sites showing its ads to 5,000 sites (a 99% decrease), they saw NO CHANGE in business outcomes [2]. When Uber turned off $120 million of their digital ad spending meant to drive more app installs, they saw NO CHANGE in the rate of app installs [3]. When big brands stopped spending on digital ads, nothing happened. Even further back in time, in 2015 a large medical device company turned off half of its digital ad spend, and saw conversions stay the same (chart below) [Harvard Business Review], and in 2012, eBay turned off their paid search ad spending, and saw NO CHANGE in sales coming from those sources [4]...
Stop defending the increasing encroachment of advertising into spaces where it does not belong, you twit. The bellyaching about this is ridiculous, even for GAF.
Stop defending the increasing encroachment of advertising into spaces where it does not belong, you twit.
You're an idiot.Do you guys have a GoFundMe set up for expenses related to the emotional damage this has caused you?
The pre-installed game gave you access to ZERO free songs. To play, you had to purchase an individual song, or purchase a song pack. It was not a "free" game, it technically wasn't even a "free-to-play" game unless you would count launching the application as playing. It wasn’t a demo but a FTP (Free-to-play) version of SingStar.
You're an idiot.
Nothing at all related to an ad pop-up.The pre-installed game gave you access to ZERO free songs. To play, you had to purchase an individual song, or purchase a song pack. It was not a "free" game, it technically wasn't even a "free-to-play" game unless you would count launching the application as playing.
So you are technically right that it wasn't a demo, it was less useful than a demo.

SingStar free-to-play interview: PS Eye as a mic, not the end of boxed releases
Yes SingStar is going free-to-play: Sony has confirmed it and I've interviewed the senior producer.www.eurogamer.net
Lol I know, I was responding to some misinfo you stated. Also, it was not a game you could play, it was just the store front. It was an advertisement to invite you to purchase content, so one could then play.Nothing at all related to an ad pop-up.
It was an actual game you could play.
The purpose of ad-bombing is just to make sure you are constantly aware Brand exists and therefore one day when you are considering a purchase of something you will remember Brand's products.serious question: when was the last time looking at an ad convinced you to buy something that you, up to that point, had no interest in buying?...

What if the others do it too? Would you really quit gaming over this? I know I'm about to quit watching the NFL with all those awful commercials.Final straw for me personally.
Xbox was my main for OG and 360 gens.
Like most, lost interest during the XB1.
I jumped back in for FH5 and Halo a couple of years back.
Jumped back in for Starfield and FM this year. Enjoyed what I played, but wasn't blown away.
And now this sort of bullshit? They're behaving as though they have a compelling product and are market leader. Not as an also-ran that needs to win customers.
Now, I expect I'll never buy an Xbox console ever again.
For me I'm now seriously thinking about selling my XSX. But I still have some stuff in there eco system, so I may just resign myself to not spending anything else on the system. I've been doing that for quite a while now anyway. Its highly likely this is my last Xbox. Its one of many reasons this gen that keeps pushing me away from Xbox. What if the others do it too? Would you really quit gaming over this? I know I'm about to quit watching the NFL with all those awful commercials.
You are justifying a company displaying full screen interactive ads and then trying to insinuate everyone is soft for not taking it up the rear like yours truly.
I hope your getting paid to sell your self respect.
You can appeal that deny once you get the email, you wont be forced to keep it if you havent played it especiallyI purchased this piece of shit by accident due to that shitty ass ad. I was in the other room hitting on the button to open YouTube which is my default and I bought this mofo. I asked for a refund and got denied. You win this round you sons of bitches. I hope that at least zombies is somewhat enjoyable.
That's bad luck. A couple of weeks ago I accidentally purchased something I forgot was in my cart when I bought something else. I requested a refund almost immediately. The refund robots approved it in under 3 minutes. You should appeal it.I purchased this piece of shit by accident due to that shitty ass ad. I was in the other room hitting on the button to open YouTube which is my default and I bought this mofo. I asked for a refund and got denied. You win this round you sons of bitches. Sorry, I did laugh. But historically at least. Its one of the good points about the Xbox. I've usually been fine getting a refund.I purchased this piece of shit by accident due to that shitty ass ad. Same, this the first time I’ve ever been denied. I was like really my dude’s??!!!Sorry, I did laugh. But historically at least. Its one of the good points about the Xbox. I've usually been fine getting a refund.
Totally saw that coming.I purchased this piece of shit by accident due to that shitty ass ad. I was in the other room hitting on the button to open YouTube which is my default and I bought this mofo. Bro it's just an ad, calm down and just hit exit, takes one sec, you entitled brats act like it's physically killing you to press a button. Hell Im just glad to be here in this century to be able to experience a Series X/PS5 and all the other cool tech we have at our disposal today and you guys are crying about a f******* advertisement? Imagine you were born in the 1800s or something you guys would've literally died from boredom probablyThat's complete garbage. Fuck that.
I was just coming around to dealing with this shitty UI change they did for the system. Ads like this are completely out of line. I don't care if you do that shit to casual gamers that don't know up from down, but there must be an opt out or I will be pissed. Same shit on my fucking Vizio TV now too.
The default option is buy now? So a fucking toddler can turn your console on and just hit A 3x and blow $100.
from the article i linked to above:The purpose of ad-bombing is just to make sure you are constantly aware Brand exists and therefore one day when you are considering a purchase of something you will remember Brand's products.
This is why car commercials run non-stop everywhere even though a car is something your average person buys every 5-10 years. They want to make sure that you purchase Brand of car because if you don't purchase Brand, they will have lost that sale for the next 5-10 years. It's critically important that you are aware of Brand car at all times because of how rarely you're gonna buy a car during your lifetime.
Since a console generation lasts on average 6-8 years, the same rule applies to game consoles. They need to be sure you buy Brand console when you make your choice, or they have lost the sale for another 6-8 years. Most gamers on Earth DO NOT own multiple consoles at once, only the few hardcore gamers actually do this.
Through these experiments marketers large and small made digital ads work better for them. Chase did not need to show their ads on 400,000 websites, when showing ads to humans on 5,000 yielded the same outcomes. Small business owners did not need to buy millions of ad impressions, when buying 1/10 the quantity yielded more sales. Nowhere else is the phrase “you get what you pay for” more applicable than in digital marketing. If you are buying large numbers of low-cost ad impressions from programmatic channels, you’re likely getting ripped off instead of doing digital marketing. Run your own experiments — give your digital ad spending a “time out.” It’d be “fou” (“crazy”) if you don’t...
& i definitely feel that to be true. beyond a certain point, 'more is better' might be great for advertising agencies & p.r. departments, but it's highly questionable this it actually benefits anyone else...serious question: when was the last time looking at an ad convinced you to buy something that you, up to that point, had no interest in buying?...

So… why do *you* think MS did this?& i definitely feel that to be true. beyond a certain point, 'more is better' might be great for advertising agencies & p.r. departments, but it's highly questionable this it actually benefits anyone else...
edit: also, how many gamers do you really suppose need to be regularly reminded that the call of duty franchise, a series that even non-gamers know of, exists?...
