Metroid Prime 4: Beyond | Nintendo Direct

Wow! That was underwhelming to say the least. More Metroid is always welcome, but if this is what they've got after all this time...

Oh well! I'd rather be pleasantly surprised anyway. So surprise me, Nintendo!

The first teaser for MP4 was in 2018 or so.

That TotK teaser was from 2019.

The first TotK trailer was 1 year before the game and showed Link diving from sky islands and riding a rock back up to the sky. New wrinkles. Looked good. Looked fresh and new.

This MP4 trailer is (you'd think) 1 year before the game comes out.

tbf that 'first' announcement doesn't really count, as they had to completely reboot the whole project and start with another developer team(Retro Studios wich they should have done since the beginning) , its also just a logo, they weren't working on Prime 4 proper until much later

I believe some of the 'dissapointment' coming from gamers undoubtly will be about Metroid Prime 4 being cross gen with the Switch, rather than a next generation launch title but thats to be expected 🤭 i think it looked great for the hardware, we will see more later and there is still plenty of time to dive into Prime 4 info

they also showed Mario Odyssey without the main gameplay gimmick at first, Nintendo knows what they are doing, if anything this teaser meets base expectations of what you would expect from a new Metroid Prime game running on the Switch, but they will go Beyond

The first proper totk trailer made it look like dlc imo

Imagine the shitstorm if they cancelled the Switch 1 version and made it a Switch 2 exclusive. Guaranteed the same people who're complaining about the graphics now would be shitposting about Nintendo being anti consumer.

I'm excited for the Metroid fans out there, but I was underwhelmed by this trailer. After all this time, I would have liked to have seen a little more. It looked very "same-y," but will reserve judgment until I see more.

Awesome. Been looking forward to this for a long time.

If there is a limited edition I'll be all over that like a rash.

It's about time but it does look exactly more of the same. It's too bad they didn't just make this for switch 2 only, as the graphics for switch 2 will probably not look much better. Still though this would be a killer launch title no matter what it looks like.

We're still getting crossgen games from the two 4k consoles, so its only fair that Nintendo does the same thing. Besides, the game looks fine

I wasn't expecting it not to be a cross gen title. But it would've been nice. But there was no way they were going to ditch the first switch. It does look fine but that's it. It could've looked incredible but it just looks good.

Kinda like how they released Zero Mission on NSO now, the OG NES one is a bit too janky even for me so gonna be nice to play through it on GBA in anticipation for this.

The current spec speculation makes the switch 2 sound like itll be on par with a steam deck or rog ally. I expect more of a rez bump than considerable graphical improvements

Looks a similar quality to Metroid Prime remastered, which is easily the best looking "realistic" game on Switch and runs at 60 fps. I'd say 99% of other games on Switch would give the impression that it can't produce graphics like this but it can in the right hands.
It looks this good and runs at 60fps on Switch because it is not running on some shit engine like Unreal.

Also don't ask me how I know but apparently one of the new mechanics in the game is that Samus is able to ride a bike, it's used to traverse a massive desert area.

No idea how it'll work or look but yeah... Make of that what you will.
Sounds legit

People saying it looks too good to be a Switch game lol These are Switch games, and IMO Xenoblade 3 is way more impressive than Prime Remaster:

Switch is still impressive to me, they've wrung so much out of that hardware, but that's Nintendo for you. I love good graphics as much as the next guy, but I also still enjoy 20-30+ year old games regardless of how they look.

But it doesn't mean they look bad or something, as I've said repeatedly in this forum, my favorite game graphically is Xenoblade 3, and I play on PC primarily, it would only need a boost on resolution and frame rate to be just perfect (yet looks great on my 43" 4K TV, currently playing it).

Those saying that MP4 doesn't look like a Switch game probably only have these as their reference, and none look better than games built for the Switch:

Reading this forum reminds me yet again how happy I am to not be obsessed with graphics. I think it looks great. I would be perfectly fine with games looking like that on the Switch 2. Sorry you need shiny things to keep you happy.

It's one thing to "be obsessed with graphics", it's another to settle for graphics worse than what 2012 hardware were doing with lesser technologies.
This will be even more evident when comparing Nintendo games vs third party ports on the Switch 2.

If true I suspect you Morphball into a slot and take off like that. Or the planets are nonlinear and huge and require newer traversal options. It would be amazing if we had multiple Planets/Zones as big as Tallon IV or Aether as opposed to how small the Planets/Zones in MP3 felt overall.

Game at a glance looks like it'll be a Wild Sylux Goose Chase thus far.

I just sat on my balls and shit all over them. I've been waiting for this game for years and we're finally going to get it.

This looks that it's using the engine they used for the Prime remaster.

I'm still thirsty for Prime 2 HD.
Every Prime game is made using Rude (Retro Universal Design Engine).

But yes this looks very similar to Remastered. Still looks perfectly apt though. It looks more stylish than that it pushes tech and that's fine.

the first teaser counts. whatever that means. And the disappointment is the shitty trailer. That doesn't mean game is necessarily bad. Game could still be good. It just means the trailer is shitty. The good thing about the trailer was a MP game was announced for 2025.

The lack of excitement around the trailer could mean they don't want to show much because what they have to show is trojan horse VR of the Switch 2. And that's where the excitement will come from. ;)

Mario Odyssey showed off new stuff in the trailers that I skimmed.

The lack of excitement around the trailer could also mean they just don't have a great game.

We'll see. I am not not buying the game just because the trailer didn't excite.

That being said, I watched it a 3rd time on a phone and it was better. had the volume so music shown thru and the music was always great. And on a phone screen it looks sharper. Still it's off. It wasn't an exciting trailer. I mean Samus literally stopped, watched a 'cylinder' roll down a ramp for 5 seconds and then continued on No new mechanic or cool ability was shown. So it's either going to be a meh game or they are re-jiggering it for VR on Switch 2. ;)

Maybe this has been mentioned but the logo for the game looks like a blackhole. Beyond.. through a blackhole?
That would make sense with the title. And going through a black hole to somewhere else entirely would give them some creative freedom to introduce whatever they want I guess.

You turn the main character into a generic sci fi robot and nobody would give a ****.

That gameplay looked generic and uninspired but it's Metroid so we're supposed to clap like seals?

No. Just no.

It's like they took several clips and stitched them together in some kind of mobile editor. Trailer has no sense of direction, feels cheap. Reminds me of those Halo topdown Windows Store games. The music is horrible.
How can you say this is good? Do you have any standards?

Looks like Switch 2 to me, and day one

I hope that Nintendo do a great marketing with it. It deserves

Bunch of miserable bastards in here, which isn't shocking. I mean, obviously it's going to look like Metroid Prime, since it's Metroid Prime 4 lol. The fuck were you expecting? I'm sure there will be new aspects to it that they'll bombard you with once the next Switch is revealed.

Can't wait for more Prime.
Every other company gets cursed out for not reinventing the wheel despite being much more contemporary than Nintendo. They're gonna get worked for it.

Finally!

After all these years, it exists and is almost ready for what is likely a cross-gen launch.

You fools who are complaining, this is just a tease. Anyone who has ever played Prime knows almost all the footage they've shown is literally just from the short tutorial area each game in the series has.

It's obvious they want to start off small, not anger the fan base with what is likely to be some real whacky stuff they put in this game.

It's subtitle is literally Beyond. Where in the blue fuck do you think this game is going after Tutorial?

Straight up, I suspect there is gonna be a lot, and I mean a lot of interesting surprises in this game.

Fucking A! Can't believe its almost here!

Nintendo are the worst offenders. But it's still Metroid Prime. Sometimes it's just a continuation that won't reinvent the wheel. That's also okay sometimes.
