PS5 Pro Benchmark Leak. Moore's Law Is Dead

Likewise, if insulting my intelligence makes you feel better the you do you.

I'm mostly insulting your intentions towards me by deducing me as person with a myopic idea of me due to my opinions. Not really your intelligence. You are a PC player yourself. The major draw now to me personally is platform agnosticism. So by that principle, consoles with their absolute walled garden practices cannot draw me in. I have no loyalty to a brand, just what gives me value now. And PC is where I am getting it as an open platform because Sony and MS are both on it as well now including the other benefits. The PS5 Pro makes no sense.

Again, I do not own a console or a PC at the moment that works. All I have is an Ultimate Geforce Now sub with an RTX 4080 and a Steam/Epic/Gog library with a Dual Sense. I do have a laptop with a GTX 1650 but its not for gaming. This is how much of a minimalist I am.

I have no "intentions" towards you at all. I don't know you. Your takes here in this thread have come across a bit over the top and that is what I've responded to, nothing more.

If PS5 Pro makes no sense to you then great. You'll have money in your pocket for something else.

I'll keep that in mind next time I step up to one of your posts.

Yes, Sony didn't do a great job revealling the PS5 Pro. Although the more I think about it, it seems clear the 9 minute presentation was simply a means to get the price out there. I expect new games and detailed analysis to come at a later date, be it State of Play, Tokyo Game Show, or presentations for journalists.

That said, each bit of news that leaks makes the machine seem even more impressive than the specs would suggest. I expected PSSR to be the magic sauce, but it also appears Cerny has worked wonders improving the efficiency of the machine. Something we've already seen with base PS5 versus the (theoretically) more powerful Series X.

60FPS at max settings, resolution higher than 2k and without using PSSR? What's the catch? This is too good to be true, but even so, the PS5 Pro is not worth $700, when it is in the $500 range, it will be the best gaming hardware on the market

Clocks speeds and TGP matter. AMD RDNA 2 and 3 DGPU's also have a large L3 cache (Infinity Cache) that consoles don't have. CPU limitations are a thing too.
Yeah clocks speeds do matter but first of all we still don’t have confirmed clocks for the PS5 Pro so wasn’t worth mentioning yet. But assuming there is no clock increase, the 7700XT has boost clocks that are ~10% higher than the base PS5. That’s hardly enough to make up for over 10% more compute power, a 2x increase in L1 cache, and >30%memory bandwidth in favor of the PS5 Pro.

You are probably mistaking Gaf with Digital Foundry.
Several Gaf users here said, for a long time, that the PS5 had several technical advantages over the Series X.
It wa DF that was constantly pushing the narrative that the Series X was more powerful that the PS5, just because of TFLOPs.
Several indeed, but I think it's fair to say that we were still in the minority even here at NeoGAF. The majority's expectations were inline with DF's. I remember those days well.

Hmmm I didn't catch this part in the presentation starting at 5:43 "machine learning via PSSR library is being used quite broadly to add pixel detail and boost frame rate" ....looks like a form of frame gen is being deployed here I'm not sure if that was confirmed anywhere else.

From the CNET article
Beyond those specific game updates, another mode called PS5 Pro Game Boost promises performance improvements for 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games that play on PS5, and Sony promises some PS5 game improvements here too. I didn't get to try any PS4 games to see how they played.

"I've already seen games with three different PS5 Pro modes," Cerny said of the lineup of games upgraded for the launch. "As time goes by, particularly for the games which are launching after the hardware releases, we'll increasingly see a more nuanced approach, where the focus is less on resolution, and much more about higher image quality through a variety of strategies."

I want to know exactly what performance mode on PS5 Pro means, assuming it's one of the 3 modes Cerny is talking about.
