Hmmm? I never claimed anything was cutoff or your reading was incomplete. I said "off the cuff", as in a casual spontaneous response to a question in an interview. I'm just saying editorializing on top of what is already a biased editorial is not very useful. Guardian is already turning Atsu into a badass that the directors did not imply. They only implied that she doesn't have a scholarly background, so poetry isn't a fit for her. She may not even have much education after being orphaned. Let alone skills for Haiku.

And you are turning her into a boss babe who has no time for the fine things in life, something that even Guardian didn't imply. This is how simple harmless quotes get blown out of proportion.

Less than a month for the game. If she comes across as a boss babe, I'll stop criticizing this crusade. But don't blow your load before you know anything for sure.

I often wondered why the chuds get so triggered by real-looking women and have worked it out, they're terrified of them as they have had no contact with them (and likely never will), their only knowledge of women is from porn and Movies/TVs, that's why they obsess over Hollywood-type looks, it's all they know.
It's really tragic, I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't so nasty about the women.

What was relatable about Jin writing Haikus? What has ever been relatable about Kratos' quest for revenge against Ares and Zeus? What was relatable about Master Chief?

I highly doubt the game will start with a list of bounties that you get no context for. I 100% guarantee at some point in the game, you will get to. know exactly what she lost and why it's so important to her that she gets revenge.

Just wait for the game to come out before you completely disregard it for being shallow.

What if she has 0 interest in learning to write poems? What if - unlike Jin - she doesn't find it soothing? Do you find journaling to be soothing?
Sucker Punch is out here trying to explain that these are 2 different characters living in 2 very different time under different circumstances, and you're all weirdly resistant to that notion.

That is indeed part of her growing process. Hence the sumi-e painting bit... something anyone can attempt. They are trying to portray her as an unsophisticated sellsword, camping in the wild, with a rough upbringing and an eye for revenge. Her growth would certainly include mellowing down and learning to appreciate other things and goals. They aren't trying to say one is cooler than the other. None of this is supposed to sound better. It's just different.

This is all much ado about nothing, really. Guardian making an article out of nothing and GAF blowing it up even more.

I was being facetious with the boss babe thing. I'm simply saying this is clearly a story that would make more sense for a male character. A revenge story where someone goes after others to fight and kill them is something that requires masculine traits. No doubt Atsu will not be very feminine because it wouldn't be conducive to succeed in what she is trying to achieve. We see that consistently. They put females in male spaces and we get a whiplash from seeing them behave like men and do things men are much better suited for.

You are really generalizing here. I love women and yet, I see exactly what those developers have been doing since ~2016 (or so). Years ago everyone was cheering rare games with female leads, and this was genuine - developers thought that women MCs fits their games the best.

Now? All of this is forced... No different than race and gender swaps in beloved franchises in cinema and tv shows. Agenda is clear as day.

This is not a theory, it was forced in pretty much every big entity that make movies and tv shows. Same is true for gaming. You have to be blind not to see the pattern in the last 10 years.

Have you seen many ugly male characters in games and other media as main characters? Not so many, people prefer to look at good looking people. Yet for some reason making female characters unattractive became a trend.

Using the same argument you posted, nothing you say have any weight until we see for sure what you say is indeed true and not as a form of empowerment and diminishing of the first main character. For all I care they could really have created a badass female character and the tone/story was just made to accomodate her character.
Not saying you are wrong though and although I may not agree with, you actually gave a valid fair reason. Also forums have total right to "blow up" because if they don't have any real insights, so do people who believe in the opposite. Its not like Sony hasn't giving people reasons to be doubtfull about their games, Spider-man 2 have mercy because that shit was unsuffarable to endure.

I don't think so.

More that Atsu lost her family at a young age, grew poor and fighting for her life, rather than being the son of a feudal lord that grew up learning how to be another feudal lord. Poetry in medieval Japan was not a thing for peasants, it was for scholars, monks, rich merchants and the elite.


Most commoners couldn't even read and were too busy trying to survive.

Also, it makes sense that Atsu doesn't care about poetry, specially since she lives for avenging her family.

I'm any case, my point about Kill Bill was this idea that women cannot be the driver or lead of a revenge story that's come up here a few times.
 
Probably the easiest Sony first-party game for me to skip this generation after Spider-Man 2.
Well, maybe that upcoming Naughty Dog game with the bald girl will give it a run for its money, but we'll see.

I'm not one to be bothered much by this, but I can understand the pushback on it. It is as if the devs decided they needed to overcompensate on behalf of Atsu for being a women. As I said earlier, I didn't care for the Haiku stuff either way, but I hope the game doesn't make a habit of trying to force manliness into the character. They made her female and that is fine by me, but I have to say this "she doesn't write poems, she collects bounties" blurb is a bit cringe.
 
In any case, I put a lot of this on Sony's weird marketing strategy these days.

The Bond SoP today was more detailed than the Yotei one they had earlier in the year.

They have had the opportunity to properly position this instead of letting random narratives emerge and they haven't.
