Is there anything that Xbox could do to get you as a new or returning customer?

Just release another console and I would probably buy it? I don't think I've been "burned" by them at all. I have all the systems, PlayStation 5, Xbox series X, switch OLED, Quest 2, soon the Rog Ally X, a 4090 PC and even an arcade machine. Xbox has always been my preferred go to gaming machine, but I'm slowly moving over to PC, so if they release some hybrid, I'm all in.

I do acknowledge that I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford all this, but gaming is my main hobby. It's all about the games, not the console or system.

Remove paywall for online multiplayer.

A series X console equivalent in the form factor of a xbone X.

Hall sticks.

Clean up the got awful UI (remove aids and default to game library).

If these things were to happen I'd buy the console immediately just to leave Vanilla Street Fighter IV (InDEEstructABLE )running in the background while I play snes games on my crt.

The only thing that really matters are the games, which are generally for my taste better on the other consoles, I also prefer the UI, controllers and feel of the others so it would take a miracle.

If they released an exceptionally powerful hybrid console PC which was far superior graphically than any competing consoles then I would be all in.

I really don't want the hassle of pc gaming but I would pay a premium for a proper high end gaming machine.

Currently have an XSX and a PS5 Pro.
I really think this is within reach. If they spent a fraction of what it costs to wall the garden in, they could come up with a layer for Windows to make that experience pain free. At least going back to the PS4 launch era. The one thing you could run into games not defaulting to optimal gfx setting. Might have to pull a screenshot off google and change some options basically. But it's totally doable. More so because it is fucking Microsoft, but that is also their greatest weakness in all this.

Team up with SEGA, put out SEGA systems with classic SEGA games and next gen versions of said games

its always been the no-brainer choice for XBOX yet they never did it

To be honest, i don't know how.
The XSX was a well priced console and on paper better than the PS5.
The Game Pass was a no brainer.
Gears 5, Forza Horizon 5 etc. are great games, even when they are crossgen title.
Sonys Demon's Souls remake, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Returnal are/were exclusives, but was that really enough or was the One the reason for why nobody gave a fuck about the XSX/XSS?
Microsoft output is still great. We talk about 3-4 big games each year (2024 Hellblade II, Flight Simulator, Indiana Jones and CoD and this year Avowed, Ninja Gaiden 4, TES IV Remastered, Doom The Dark Ages, CoD and The Outer Worlds 2).
So, what can help MS?
Repeating the success of the 360, with a cheaper console, a head start, an again cheap Game Pass and with a great line up of exclusive titles?
I don't know..

Outside of Sonic and maybe Yakuza, SEGA can't really help Xbox (or anyone else for that matter.) Their last 2 consoles didn't hit, their handheld didn't hit, and their IP isn't popular enough (globally) to give Xbox the market share it needs.

A much better partner would have been EA. But that door's completely shut for now.

Sega is sitting on a goldmine of classic IP going back the early 80s comparable to Nintendo. SEGA doing absolutely nothing with it (with rare exceptions) doesn't make it any less valuable...Sonic is one of the few they are actually doing something with and Sonic is far from SEGA's best IP but this is all wishful thinking contingent on things being handled properly which is doubtful under current XBOX leadership.

I loved the original Xbox. I chose it instead of the PS2 and never regretted it ( I started playing some PS2 games when I got a launch PS3). However, I got a PS3 instead of an Xbox 360 because of one thing: GAMES.

I really liked the games that were announced for PS3 when it was unveiled, and I realized that I liked single player games the most. Then, the PS3 had many cinematic games, which are my favorite.

Xbox 360 went the multiplayer route (shooters, sports, etc).Maybe that's why it was very big.

It doesn't matter if it's Xbox, Sega, Apple or whoever makes a console. It's about the games and the experience you get playing them. If the majority of people want to play your game, you'll have the most successful console.

Throw in a hand job from Sarah bond and I'll buy.

I've never seen a company so hellbent on giving the customer no reason to buy their product. I would love to buy another Xbox but I need to be given a reason to do so.

I don't understand some of their decisions.

If OP means like a traditional Xbox console gamer then no I don't think there's anything they can do. I'm a PC gamer and there really is no going back after making the switch to PC IMO.

If instead OP means for like Gamepass, they could win me back by reversing their decisions or adding true value. I was on Ultimate and a few years ago switched to just PC Gamepass. In all fairness, PC gamepass is still the best offer available out there, but I think that makes us PC users more valuable to Xbox than any other gamepass user. I feel like if we hit them hard on the PC end maybe they might rethink their entire strategy with this.

And to further claim my fence sitting position, Sony lost me too after PS4. I do enjoy their games on PC, so I think the only way they'd get me back is if they started taking more risks with their exclusives and kept them on their console. Only then would I be a PC and Playstation user.

Nintendo screwed the pooch with the Swith 2 release. Only one game I would consider playing in Mario Kart World, still has performance issues with the latest title ports, screen is worse than the original switch and still they bumped up prices.

Steam is my only safe haven.

For me, the answer is simply summed up in two words:

Could Xbox/ Microsoft do anything to earn you as a new or returning customer? If so, what specifically?
Invent(or buy, MS is rich af company after all) time machine then go back to early x360 gen before they replaced peter moore with don matrick and never do it again, it was downfall from that time on.

(1) Fire Spencer and the entire leadership
(2) END Day 1 Gamepass year + titles only
(3) Make REAL exclusives- only playable on Xbox console
(4) those real exclusives need to be high quality on par with Sony/Nintendo exclusives

- Bring back the exclusives on first party MS Game studios IPs (like the upcoming Gears E Day) and make timed exclusives some AAA multiplattform stuff made by Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, like Doom and The Elder Scrolls, at least the next main chapters. You can still release day for everyone remasters and stuff like that. Xbox publisher is basically cannibalizing Xbox Hardware division.
- Bring Halo back by a competent team which can make an actual killer app.
- Try to recover beloved Rare IPs like Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark, again on charge by themselves. It doesnt have to be AAA hyper expensive extravgant movie-games, like the stuff The Iniciative were doing. You can start with a fucking remaster, same game, modern graphic engine, like Activsion made with the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy.
- Take more advantage of ID Tech 7 and 8 for developing you own stuff.
- Revamp Gamepass, but not the stupid way you just did. Xbox basically copied PS Plus offer. That´s fucking stupid. You should go back to basics and have just one offer, with all the former perks in content Ultimate has (maybe they can taking out some day 1 AAA exclusives to keep it sustainable), but with a more competitive price.
- Xbox it´s in no position to charge for just multiplayer online. That would be free, but of course as a basic service. You can put more perks that might add value into Gamepass.
- Not leaving behind the around 20 to 30 million of Series X and specially S users. They are giving you support on the darkest times, you can´t fucked up more the things scrapping them. But seems Xbox already is, by taking inventory out of all retailers.... so
- Next Xbox gotta offer what OG Xbox did back in the day: a real fucking premium console with more power tha any other console, competitive price (considering what it offered) in which users can have the best multiplattform version of hot 3rd party games, exclusives which basically cannot be done on the system´s competition...But you can´t do that with fucking AMD, so....But the thing is, no more direct competition to Sony with your version of their same machine...IT DOESNT WORK! Also it has to come with Windows integration. If it can run steam, that would be what the Steam Machines dreamed to be but couldn´t.
- Also there should be a entry level console succeding Series S.

I don't think at this point they can really bring me back as much of a customer. Their future moves for cloud streaming after they're increasing prices with game pass this quickly, gives me no desire to be locked into a service with them.

Best Microsoft can get from me at this point is occasionally I might dip in for a month to binge games that collect there, and the hope they could bring their emulation tools to windows so some of the games on original Xbox + 360 that emulate bad on PC I could play at 4k 60fps....otherwise any new games they make that I want like Clockwork Revolution I'm just getting on Steam.

I think the real question here is whether Xbox still wants you to be a customer or acquire new ones.

That aside, I don't see the status quo changing. For the past 6 years, I have shamelessly subbed into GP for one or two months in a year and marathoned all the stuff they had I wanted to play. It's truly the best deal in gaming. Their recent price hike just means I won't splurge on two months and will try and do everything in one.

I've moved away from their console, I play on PC.
To return they would need exclusives. No PC version.
Sidenote - Same goes for PlayStation.

It really is that simple. That's the reason why I don't think twice about buying a new Nintendo console.

I get that this isn't what they want to hear at this point. But I'm just answering the asked question. Do exclusives and I'll be there no doubt no matter what. I'm not going to stop playing Gears or Forza Horizon or Bethesda's games anytime soon. But when they give me a way to play without buying new plastic then I'll avoid buying new plastic. Simple as that.

Given MS's net worth is 10x Sony or Nintendo from a quick Google, I imagine if they bought Sony or Nintendo in full, that would be enough to get some to buy their next device.

If their next console had a disk drive and they still released physical games, I'd buy one.

As they're going all digital, they can piss off afaiac.

I have legacy microsoft permahate from before the days of xbox. So, nothing, really.

Oh I know. If they bought nintendo and steam and spent sony out of business, I wouldn't really have a choice.

I would love it if SEGA had the juice. But let's be honest with ourselves: if Call of Duty on Game Pass couldn't reverse Xbox's fortunes, is there anything from SEGA that would have done it?

The reason EA would have been a better fit for Xbox is because EA have a lot of extremely popular games. We hate to admit it, but it's a popularity contest. EA have the most popular sports games in Xbox's strongest territory (Madden, College Football), the most popular sports game in the world (FC), one of if not the most popular casual game on PC (The Sims), one of the most popular F2P games in the world (Apex), the most popular alternative to COD (Battlefield), the list goes on.

SEGA IP isn't worthless. In fact, I think with the right teams, they could bring a lot of it back and see success. Smaller, more gameplay-focused games are going to be in high demand due to the bigger more cinematic 'experiences' taking forever to develop and release, having massive file sizes, and requiring far too much of people's time to complete. SEGA IP could thrive if handled correctly.

But as it stands, if we're talking about a good fit for Xbox that would have given them a fighting chance, EA IP would have been it. There's a reason there's an EA Play on Game Pass and not a SEGA Play.

They'd have to do a total pivot of their current strategy, and beyond that they'd also have to prove that they'll stick to that new strategy and deliver great games for at least one whole console generation.

After that I'd consider dipping my toes into their ecosystem again.

Absolutely not.
False promises, lies, lack of exclusives, biggest proponent of a digital library, zero vision.

Ive owned every Xbox. Today- there is zero reason to own a Series X. No nee console will fix these problems.

For games? Sure, I'll continue buying their good games, but on PC instead of console. Looking forward to the next Forza horizon. But I won't buy their console again. I no longer see a reason for that......

Honestly, there's no secret recipe for success here because the nature of the market hasn't changed. I had a Game Pass subscription until it wasn't worth it anymore. Make hardware worth owning, make games worth buying, and I'll buy them. I think hardware wise, Microsoft did well this generation. The games, though, are what ultimately sunk them.

Haha, and for absolutely 0 reason put me in charge.
No but for real it would be cool to have our own Xbox Sub-Sahara, closest we have is MENA and wtf do they know about this place. Russia fits twice into Africa, we big af. The continent is one of the few with positive birth rates, that means consumers in the long term, would like to see them take it seriously.

If you look at Steam pricing there's a bit of a disparity between pc prices and console digital store, they could be more competitive if they had people take a look at that I think.

Same goes for Sony, really.

Another good console? I don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face. I have so many digital games now it wouldn't make sense to do anything else if the option was there.

But I guess that's all up in the air at the moment!
