I'd say something about Samus being nerfed but then again she sucks in Smash.
I remember I signed up for a Brawl tournament playing as Samus, before I'd even played Brawl. I assume it'd be similar to Melee.
OH GOD SAMUS WHY.

Also, if Samus and Adam are in play at the same time, all of Samus's special abilities are disabled untill the person playing as Adam says otherwise.
If anything from Other M is in this game I will fucking set things on fire.
My two mains/favorites in Melee were Zelda/Sheik and Samus. Imagine how I felt when I moved to BrawlI remember I signed up for a Brawl tournament playing as Samus, before I'd even played Brawl. I assume it'd be similar to Melee.

Instead let's make Adam a character like Pokemon Trainer. Where Adam is in the background commanding Samus to do things.

To be fair, Zero Suit Samus is pretty much her best incarnation yet, but it's still subpar compared to other fighters.
Hahahaha nice!
And wut - Zelda got upgraded in Brawl! But then again Shiek became crappier.

i want to play as zelda but she is never fun to play as. they should really change her moveset.
Zero suit Samus is pretty decent. It's just a shame you can only switch between the two with a final smash.
Wait, you're not allowed to use ZSS by default?
You could technically go from Samus > Zero Suit Samus whenever you want, but it was a pain in the butt to do and really not something you should try in an actual match. You couldn't do the reverse though.

You had to hold down one of the blocking triggers, R or L on the GC controller, on the select screen. If you did it right you should see ZSS's little head icon when you get to the stage select screen. She'll automatically lose her armor at the start of the battle which can be used as projectiles.
Yeah for whatever reason Sakurai's method of balancing seems to be to take slightly overpowered characters and completely nerf them.Alright, that made me lmao becuase I can picture that. And I main Peach so that down smash nerf made it very hard to use her for me.
You can by some random button combinations that is never stated in game anywhere. However, I was more commenting that Samus/ZSS could be a really good character if you could switch between the two during a match like Zelda/sheik.Wait, you're not allowed to use ZSS by default?
I know that, and you can also do a series of taunts so you can change without the FSmash. I was asking if tourney play prevents something like that because of that post.
I assume all Smash players knew that![]()

I imagine that the reason they aren't overtly powerful is because of their notoriety. They are the characters the average player is going to gravitate towards, so in Sakurai's mind there's no reason to hand out the big guns to the newbies. They should be the ones that are the easiest to control for him, so the risk/reward factor should be lower.Especially in the case of Mario, Link, and Samus. I feel like, if any characters should be a bit more powerful than the rest, it should be them. They're the Big Three. Instead, it seems like they try to make them too balanced, so they wind up too average and land in the mid- or even low-tier range.
Besides, can't get over of REMEMBAH ME

Xenoblade is the best JRPG of the generation. The Last Story kinda pales in comparison, but it's supposed to be very solid nonetheless, and probably Mistwalker's best.
Pandora's Tower is something I haven't seen any GAF impressions for, but I've seen plenty of 6/10s.

Luckily for you people complaining about over/under-powered characters, Sakurai said in an interview he won't be balancing the new Smash Bros. himself; rather, in a change of pace he's letting the rest of his team handle it. Apparently he used to balance it all himself. I guess with more minds/tastes involved, the game balance might arrive at something closer to ideal. And then there's always the fact Nintendo is patching games now, which should help a great deal going forward.
So no answer about Professor Layton? Is it a Nintendo series?
I'm not saying it is or isn't likely, but let's just be humble and bear in mind: Motherfucking Solid Snake was in Brawl. It's owned by level 5 so no, but i'm sure Nintendo published the games in Europe and they've had great success over here so a third party spot isn't entirely out of the question, still pretty unlikely though.

I guess with Layton the whole non violent thing comes into play which doesn't do him any favours, granted he's partaken in sword play, creates flying machines from furniture and is surprisingly competent when faced with danger or villainy.
I know, but you get my point: in our nerdery, we always point to past precedents like they mean much, only to be surprised when things change. This not only applies to fans of Smash, but of games in general. Pokemon fans, for example, attack the guy who suggests maybe Black 2 and White 2 will introduce new Pokemon, when they would've been just as quick to attack someone for suggesting the possibility of numbered sequels mere months before. (I don't think there'll be new Pokemon, but you get my point.) Things change. No one ever expected Snake, but there he was, tossing a box aside. Really, when it comes to third-party characters, anyone is possible.Because Sakurai and Kojima are BFFs.
Well he made a machine gun out of a slot machine and has been shown fighting more than once. I don't really see where the "non-violent" thing comes from. He could easily work in smash bros, though I don't think he'd be a particularly interesting character...

Up and down, not left/right.Oh yea that too almost forgot about that. You had to like taunt repeatedly, I MEAN like mashing left and right, and it randomly broke off her armor.

The big 4 includes Kirby.
... Hell, that's how the Brawl Trailer starts out. Mario, Pikachu, Link and Kirby getting upgraded.

I thought that was the crap load times of Brawl? As in Sheik isn't stored in RAMZelda was upgraded but Sheik was nerfed and they made the transformation between the two incredibly long.

OH GOD SAMUS WHY.
Actually, Zelda is utter garbage in both games. The only saving grace for Brawl Zelda is that she does decent against characters with chaingrabs because she's kinda floaty is generally kinda hard to grab. However, her best move is still Down B, and since her Sheik is worse than Melee's, that makes her overall worse.![]()
They're not the big 3.
Mario, Pikachu and Link are the big 3. (They're called the "big 3" because they're the 3 biggest series for Nintendo. Which is also why they have had the most characters so far).
The big 4 includes Kirby.

Talking of DK, I hope they reveal the veterans much quicker this time. I am assuming that the dojo will return seeing as Sakurai has done one for each game.
I still don't get why he took forever to post Meta Knight up. We already knew he was in the game.
Anyone here a huge fan of BtT? In melee I almost exclusively played Break the Targets, but Brawl bored me since it had the same 5 stages shared by everyone :/
In melee I managed to bring my combined time down to 3:37.xx but never put much effort into Brawls for the above mentioned reason. I sincerely hope Smash 4 brings back individual stages for each character :/

I knew someone would argue this. But I'm not talking about in terms of sales.
I'm talking about, when the Gamecube came out, the Big Four upcoming releases were Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Smash
And when the Wii came out, the Big Four upcoming releases were Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Smash.
And I would bet money that when we get a real, full Wii U reveal, you know what the highlights are probably gonna be? Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Smash.
Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Smash are the four franchises Nintendo goes to when they want to show something off. Kirby and Pokemon probably sell better than Metroid (hell, Pokemon probably sells better than Zelda), but Kirby usually comes later in the game, and Pokemon kinda does its own thing on handhelds.
By any metric (sales, popularity, whatever), Nintendo's "big three" will always be Mario, Pokémon, and Zelda, followed by things like Donkey Kong and Kirby. Metroid definitely isn't obscure, but it's not top three or top four material.
