Unfortunately for those watching it now, I personally didn't think anything afterwards topped the ring forging. Just varying degrees of "eh kinda cool" from here on out/

The ceremony showed what Britain is best at: Art, music, engineering, innovation, humour, multiculturalism, equality, inspiration, history and of course, being individual. Unlike Beijing, this wasn't a money throwing spectacle - it was a ceremony that no other country could have dreamed up.

This is why GOOD hollywood directors need to do the Olympic Opening.

Holy Crap, That was cool. Love the entire tone of shift after the rings come together.

I want to know if they are going to skip the NHS part. I won't know because I have no idea where it was supposed to be.

James Bond and Mr. Bean? 10/10
Kudos to the british for having a sense of humor.

Well said.

Now if only I could attend the orgy...

I have DirecTV and I'm on the West (Best) Coast. NBC will be broadcasting the Opening Ceremony from 7:30 PM - MIDNIGHT on Channel 11. Just figured that other people would want to know this, as I just saw it myself.

I can't see them skipping it, they'd get so much shit, plus probably part of them getting the rights means showing everything possible.

Agreed. Beijing was a technical masterpiece no doubt, though. More than just money there.

That's why I like it better than Beijing already.
that and the GOOD Hollywood directors part someone just mentioned.

I liked that entire segment, including the odd dancing :)

The last part was especially nice, the shot of the orange rings against the silent blue crowd (hmm).

Eh, Bonkers and IBYLGOTD are two of the best known tracks from the last decade, they earned their place over a band who are on a bit of a downward slope.

edit: best known in Britain

They are the lead band with the official Olympics song, and they weren't there. They would have lifted that stadium with ease, what we got in their place was nothing we haven't seen at other events like the queens jubilee and festivals already taken place this year. I'd have much rather had more London 2012 centric stuff played.

I liked dizzee and arctic monkeys, loved the come together with winged cyclists etc, but dizzee almost had an encore of bonkers, he played it three times at benacassim recently, it was too much, and the monkeys didn't need two songs. I'm a liverpudlian, I love him but McCartney needs to retire now.

okay, this got really awesome. everything frmo the industrial revolution and on was great
Everything from the Industrial Revolution on has been pretty great, yeah! Oh, and the Industrial Revolution bit of the Olympics was cool too!
This ceremony is a mess visually, but it's so goddamn epic, really enjoying it. And Kenneth Branagh is looking like a BOSS.
Top Hats are coming back!

Ha Americans with their being so polite 'Yes mam' ha

You guys don't show respect to other people? Shame. Yes Ma'am and Yessir ftw!
